View Full Version : Would You?

Recently, Yoshida; the producer of XIV, stated that, if he were to add a pet wyvern, dragoon's power would be weaken.

Fellow bst, my question is this, would you trade in your master's power for a fully buffed monstrosity esque pet?

Would you prefer to have a fully decked out behemoth; with all of his special abilities while the master just plays the role as the commander?

Or would you rather keep bst the way it is currently constructed; the master and the pet working together on the frontlines in order to achieve maximum dps?

Personally, I would prefer fist choice. Why? We only have one aspect to worry about, the pet. Gear for the pet; the majority of bst gear would be to enhance the pet. just grab your most powerful monster and go to work. Smn's avatars appear to be superior to other pets. The smn itself is not a dd, but pups and bst are which causes issues with balance. Also, smn appears to be more desirable than the aforementioned jobs (from my experience).

Nope. I like BST how it is. Still wanna see an Opo-opo jug pet. And still for the Rare/Ex special personal named pet, but other than that, just more gear that benefits both Pet and Master. If you want to play with a Poke'Mon, get a gameboy or play SMN.

Just asking this question out of curiosity; that is all. Yoshida brought this up recently and i immediately thought, "Bst."

As it pertains to the bolded; I might as well; smn has more uses than bst.

Imo, bst will never; never rise in its' current format. Going on 12 years and still the recluse of XI. i truly believe this is why Yoshida mentioned this; he knew that a dd pet/master was a bad concept; hence he stated that drgs may not want a wyvern due to the sacrifice of dd capabilities. Also, multi-managing may be problematic in XIV.

Edit: How do you know what type of Opo-pet SE will give us? What moves will be removed? Aka a sacrifice in dd capabilities.

Who is this Yoshida? Also didn't mean to be rude, I guess it did come off bad. Bit of History on my part is that I was one of the few that took BST from 1 to 75 completely solo, and then when abby came out, continued to solo until 95. The job works fine as is, I see no reason to move it to one side or the other. As it is, BST is actually really over powered. If more Power is handed to the PET, I can see it being game breaking. But again, these are just the opinion of one Elvaan. Also regarding the Opo-Opo, the whole aspect of the BST AF quests was to find a BST's Opo-opo pet that was separated from him during the war. The BST became rage full and could only be calmed once the Opo-opo was reunited with him. My point was just to say that why don't we have a Jug Pet based on this?

^Keep it like this. I enjoy the 40/60 - 60/40 balance of power between Master and Familiar. It does need work when dealing with higher level enemies, and SE needs to stop removing random TP moves and coding silly restrictions like "They can't zone with you! Think of the crafters!!"

All the extremes are honestly covered. DRG is about you, while SMN is the Avatar. I'm not a PUP, but I imagine they fall somewhere in between like BST.

As for FFXIV, it's really not my style, but if it was, I'd probably be the guy rooting for the Wyvern. I understand the complications. I think it's just that in XI, the Wyvern tried to teach you a lesson. There were dragonslayers. There were knights consumed by the power of dragons. And then there was You, taking on the responsibility of providing Hope to the future of a species, via the Holy Crest. I liked that, a lot. It's too bad a story like that ended at Level 60 (Achtelle, where are you?...).

Great points; while i do believe that the master/pet mechanics are flawed; not gonna lie, a scorpion with all of their moves intact would be pretty solid or a ram with rage. The jugs that they release are puzzling imo, when you consider the monsters out there with jug potential. For instance, another mandy over a sabotender (1k needles? 2k needles? 4k needles? 1,2, 3 charges respectively)? A boar (We all knew that barreling smash would be removed, why release it?) over a opo? A vanity frog over a ruszor? A chapuli over a scorpion (yes, according to them the chapuli was meant to be a dd.....)? I don't get it.......

Edit: Unleash job points are also slept on; great spam fest with those. 20% is a sizable increase, albeit for a short duration.
