My most rewarding FFXI experience:
I spent years leveling BST solo. At one point, I think I stayed as BST66 for almost a year just because of the lack of really good Charm camps. I think I spent most of my time, as a BST66-70 in Den of Rancor before moving on to Sky.
Anyway, in the the time I spent in Den of Rancor, soloing as much as I could possibly take. I received a /tell from a random JP player. They used the translator function to say something to the effect of: "Hello! San D'Oria Mission 9 Do you need any help?" I decided to run over as a fast as I could. (Home Point to Jeuno, then airship to San D'Oria, then outpost warp to glacier....this was a long time ago). Also, the chances I was ever going to get invited to do this as BST was slim to none.
I make it all the way to Qulun Dome for the mission and I see these 5 JP players and about 5 or 6 other random people. These 5 JP players, helped all of these random people, one at a time, completed the San D'Oria Rank 9 mission. We entered the BC and I just stood there in awe at how well they played and was just very grateful to play with such a nice group of strangers.
There was absolutely no incentive for them to invite a random BST in Den of Rancor all the way to Qulun Dome for a mission that I probably would have never found a group willing to take a Beastmaster, let alone someone into their group who can't speak Japanese.
My most rewarding experience in FFXI was this random display of kindness from someone I've never met. I use this mantra when dealing with everyone I meet and hope to continue this trend, pay it forward and ultimately build relationships with people.
