There are a large number of users who have elected to use third party tools to simplify gear swapping. This is more something to assist those who are still limited by sticking to the in-game system. This idea may have more specific benefits, but it comes to mind specifically for mages--particularly to the elemental obis.

If you aren't using the third party tools, you have to create additional macros to swap in the appropriate Obi, or try to time the gear swap midcast manually. If we had the option to lock the waist slot, we could equip the appropriate Obi when the conditions are present, then just use our normal "Nuke" macro to swap all the other gear pieces as usual.

Just a thought, it may/may not have any merit for other situations--but it could prove beneficial to mages at least.

I am a bit confused, if you lock your waist how do you gear change?

the idea is to prevent the slot from swapping. Say you normally wear a different piece in your full time set, and swap in something different during your normal casting routine. But you have a piece that offers greater benefit under certain conditions (ie. Elemental Obi's, Campaign/Besieged/Assault pieces) that don't get swapped in with your normal casting macro. So... you have to either have a second macro to swap in those pieces, or manually make the swap prior to casting or mid-cast.

By having the option to lock that slot, you could equip it manually and lock it. Then your normal macro routine would not equip something else in that slot, elminating the need for the additional situational macro or manual swapping mid-cast.

Okay, now I understand it. It means I can use my regular macros all the time instead of the special set I had to create for Campaign because of just a couple of pieces of gear.
