To help get people to donate...

sure donate means giving with nothing in return but If SE gave something stupid in game to players who donate it might get even more people to help out. I'm not saying this is the case with me I just want Japan to get all the help they can any way they can.

Lets face it people are greedy and if you do this it could give Japan even more help.

The nice part is that the item will cost little more than the time it takes a developer to design it. Also, while those outside of Japan were not impacted directly, this was a major event in game. It will be nice for those who were part of Vana'diel to have something as a commemoration of an event that was so bad that it impacted our virtual world.

I would rather the money go into more/better updates for FFXI if they did it honestly. If people want to donate they can easily do so, if they don't want to it's honestly quite tacky and insulting to get them to do it in this way. It sends the message, we don't care if you live or die but we will help if we get some tacky ingame item out of it!

to be perfectly honest I dont care how it makes people feel. All I care about is helping Japan out.

It doesn't matter the cause, there are some people who just don't donate on their own. That's just reality. I have no doubt that S/E will take the money to help the people of Japan no matter why people donate. That is up to people and their consciences, if it takes a gift received for them to give a gift.
