question about fishing in Mog Garden

I've been playing for years but never took up fishing. I recently got my first foray into it by doing the COR AF questline for reforging. Then I discovered today that you can fish in the Mog Garden, both in the pond and the ocean. I was able to reel in a catch from both at 0 skill level (using Willow Rod and Little Worm, if it matters).
So I'm curious whether anyone has gotten skill-ups in the Mog Garden, and/or has been able to use it towards completing the fishing ROEs?
I'm only interested in it now for the sparks really. (not that extra gil wouldn't be nice!) :p

As far as I understand, fishing inside a Mog Garden should work the same fashion it does in towns (meaning no monsters can be fished up).

Indeed, it is possible to reel in fish much higher level than what the angler's skill is, although after the recent adjustments, skill does have a more visible effect on the process.

I don't see why the RoE objectives would not work there. I'll actually test it out right now. Give just a few moments, if you will!

Yeah, they worky just fine.

I will recommend a halcyon (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Halcyon_Rod) rod for the small fish, and a composite (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Composite_Fishing_Rod) rod for the big fish for whenever Lu Shang's (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Lu_Shang's_Fishing_Rod) or/and Ebisu (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Ebisu_Fishing_Rod) rods are not available.
