View Full Version : Why no throwing weapon skill?

I know throwing is not great, but it just feels a bit incomplete when most all damaging skills get a ws but not Throwing. That and my thief always carries an evasion+ throwing weapon with little incentive to use it.
How about one that has a chance to land stun or addle? (getting hit in the head with a rock might addle someone ;-) )

Technical reasons. People have been asking this question for years and that's the main reason we've gotten.

As i remember it, its because theres no way for the game to tell the difference between a Boomerange-type ranged and a Shuriken-type ranged (I.e Ranged and Ammo), and its further hurt by the existence of non-throwable ammo items.
They are supposed to be doing something about the whole throwing system though...just don't know what.

As throwing weapons are not a main source of attack for battles, the development team does not have any plans to introduce throwing based weapon skills. However, we will be implementing throwing weapons that have item levels.
Also related to throwing, in order to increase the opportunities for using shuriken with ninja, we would like to add some new elements that will be unique for ninja.
The team is currently working on developing and adjusting other aspects of the game at the moment, so this will take a bit of time; however, I’ll be sure to keep you updated as there is progress. :)
But...what...would...be...the...point...with...no.......weaponskill? :confused:

Please more crossbows for THF and maybe newer status bolts for THF! We welcomed the Oxidant Bolt but a new and upgraded Sleep Bolt and Blood Bolt would be welcome.

How i loved chucking those things^^ Main hate tools at lower lvls. I am intrigued by this news, wonder how SE will implement shurikens? Thowing them will result in a delay in dps, unless they deal large amounts of damage and tp at lvl119. These things were slept on at lower lvls (Hate magnets), however, as our dps increased (Traits, WS), shurikens were rendered useless. Sange was nice for quick long range damage in abyssea (If it crits); but koga's were a pain to get, not to mention the new lvl119 weapons > lvl75 shurikens. Adding new elements is the only hope for shuriken ninjas, even a 119 shuriken would fail in the delve era.
Shuriken ninjas ftw^^ hopefully this works, best XI news I have heard in a long while.

This is circular logic though, isn't it?
We don't have throwing WS because throwing is not a main source of attack for battles? (Actually I think we were either told or implied at some point within the last few years that it had to do with the way Shuriken and Boomerangs are coded, but I may be wrong)
But throwing isn't a main source of attack for battles because our throwing weapons are weak (the effective delay on them was greatly reduced and I'm still thankful for that, very much so) AND because... we don't have Throwing based Weaponskills. It would work very similarly tactically to NIN/RNG with a gun fighting a 'link' or enemy summoned by a boss rather than being in range, then using the WS from range on the boss. Except, you know... with something Ninjas have A+ skill in.
Please tell me again that it is some technical limitation, I'd hate to think that right now the logic is 'we aren't updating something you don't use (because we don't update it), because you don't use it enough'.
I don't know I really think it's just because we don't use it enough, which is of course because there be no weaponskill...which is because we don't use it enough...which is because there's no weaponskill...which is because we don't use it enough....which is because...there's...no...weaponskill. :rolleyes:

The possibilities are out there; just gonna throw out a random suggestion I made in another thread. DNC, SAM, and NIN have skill chain bonus traits iirc. NIN is the only one whom cannot self sc; unless they sub Sam. DNC has wild flourish and Sam has...well...everything, lol. Does not make much sense when you consider NIN's "A" grade ninjustu skills and magic/skillchain bonus traits.
Lets say that the shuriken attack was an instant JA on a timer; the effects of the attack sets up the mob for a SC; akin to kozen-ittai, but damaging. The attack also increases the power of your next ninjustu elemental spell and ws damage. Shuriken attack > blade:whatever > SC darkness > Futae > hyoton. Just a random thought.
Edit: I see what you are saying though; gonna be interesting to see what they come up with.
Well I'd rather they bite the bullet and give us throwing weaponskills but if they are trying to find a way for ninja (and perhaps some other jobs) to self skillchain I'm for that too. I'd also like to know why they let all jobs use bronze bullets but no gun, what's up with that eh? Gonna let us throw bullets?

An all jobs gun was added to the game a few updates ago. It comes from a promo code in the XI Years Vana'diel Tribune Chronicles book (http://www.amazon.co.jp/-FINAL-FANTASY-XI-Vanadiel-Chronicles/dp/4757542712/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1400618736&sr=8-2&keywords=FFXI). The gun is the Decazoom Mk-XI (http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Decazoom_Mk-XI). By the description in the book, it's able to be used as a Soul Plate camera as well (forget the name of those things). The book also comes with a code for an all jobs polearm that resembles a giant quill pin.
Well that's just great, let me guess there's no way to get it except thru the code which is now expired, right?

Doubt the code is expired, as the book only came out 2-3 months ago. However, it's only available in Japan. I don't know off hand if Amazon.jp will ship internationally or if there are any restrictions on where they'll ship to. It'll be expensive for a book that you prolly can't read, and some vanity items though.
When you think about it, all ws have REM attached to them iirc. What would become of blade: Hi and the aftermath? They may have to add REM shurikens to make a throwing ws serviceable.
Also, I am on board for a throwing ws, but the more I ponder about the issue; the more I doubt it would work (It could though if there were REM shurikens), how would a throwing ws work? Through ToM/REM? Idk.....a throwing ws would be cool though^^

Well it can't be that hard to incorporate if they are revamping it that is, just have it like guns in that it only becomes available when said weapon is in use. Unless you're right and they don't go through the trouble unless they make relics, empys and mythic AND ilevels of the weapons...then perhaps we're screwed. Oh and I suppose that's a good thing for people who can get their hands on the book (not me).
