Well since I've been gone for a year dancer can now dual wield. So is ninja still a viable subjob to use ? Or is there a better subjob to use now like samurai?

You will be /NINing the majority of the time just for the protection shadows offer, /SAM and /WHM are situational at best and you would probably only be using them during exp parties.

I'd put it like this:
1) /NIN - Soloing, any time when you expect to take hate and not want to get hit
2) /WAR - DDing, where getting hit is okay
3) /SAM - DDing under very high Attack conditions (Red Curry Buns and Stalwart's always, etc) or main healing when someone else in your party has Haste.
4) /WHM - Potentially a main healing sub, if your group expects you to Haste them.
5) /RDM - This will replace /WHM at 99 sometimes
I have personally only used /WHM once ever. I haven't used /SAM since level 80. I went /WAR maybe twice in the last two months. Our subjobs give such minor benefits that shadows are very often more important.

/SAM has a couple situational uses, breaking Nyzul/trial weapons (wild flourish can only give you a lv2 chain with shadowstitch, while you can self darkness with sekkanoki) and I found some good use in some assaults (could practically solo saving private ryaaf as dnc75/sam were it not for the minimum entrants.)

ok, I'm wierd, I solo /thf, mostly. Evasion is evasion, I don't really care where I get it from. I do care about having the gil to pay for sushi and the like, so against almost anything but evil weapons /thf gets the nod from me. I am practicing my /nin to use ninjitsu for yellow !! procs, but mostly I stay /thf solo. I have seen no difference to my survival (I never die solo either way), but not using shadows I've managed to go up 7 full skill levels of parry in the last 2 months, I'm 203 now! My SJ doesn't seem to have an effect on my skilling throwing tho' as I hit 266 /nin today, but with slower skill-ups compared to my /thf earlier in the day.

umm....going /thf does not increase your evasion. The evasion bonus traits do not stack. Also, it's easy to cap evasion using gear on dnc, regardless of subjob.

Not to mention, Evasion isn't going to shield you from a Thunder V, Burst II, etc etc.
/THF is a bad sub for DNC, only useful for TH but that's a universal /THF thing.

At 80+, I would argue /WHM becomes your de facto soloing sub when you don't need shadows. No other sub offers anything close to being able to Haste yourself, and even a 1 MP/tick refresh from a manual or a Sanction/Sigil latent is enough to keep a Haste cycle up permanently, to say nothing of -na spells.

(I can't believe I'm arguing for this.) Don't forget Stoneskin and Blink. And there's something to be said for the 15% -mdt from Shell II.

Don't know how you'll self-Dark without either of those WSs beforehand.

i only use /nin if i have to... i love using /sam the conserve/store tp bonus, meditate, sekanoki, i use macros with third eye and utsusemi that work with whichever sub i use. it really depends on what role you are playing if you are tanking or taking alot of magic or crit dmg then yes /nin is pretty much required. if just fighting normal mobs other subs can be more useful and less expensive on the tools... i say screw tools and just saber dance, haste/drain samba III and skillchain away.

Well /nin used too be the best idea but Shadows too expensive now.
If no money the rest of the subjobs is perfect! Don't forget reraise!

Well, by trial I was thinking of the Magian WS-based dagger trials. But yeah, forgot you need PyrKleos to selfdark. You can get Distortion/Fragmentation on much more viable WSs than Shadowstitch however (Evisceration into Dancing Edge or Shark Bite respectively).
