View Full Version : Best Ideas for New Improvements

For starters, I think we need more Xbox 360 Achievements, but that was already covered here (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/4024-New-Achievements).

To go along with those achievements, why not add some new Awards too? I would love to have awards for getting my jobs leveled up high enough. For example, get White Mage to level 99 and unlock Artifact Armor for your avatar. How cool would that be?

I also feel that there should be a PS3 version of FFXI, it is not even like it would be hard to release, since they basically just have to rip the Xbox 360 version to a PS3 format and you are done. Look, Trophies are done too!

Now for the actual FFXI updates.

Ammo storage:
A separate storage compartment for ammunition (and ninja tools). When you click on Ammo under Equipment, take you to your ammunition pouch and allow players easier access and dedicated space for ALL the ammunition you have to carry or store for your jobs. You could even give it the same restrictions as the Gobbie bag, Mog Satchel, Mog Sack, and every other storage capabilities, capped at 80.

Mog House Decorations:
If an item is being displayed in the Mog House, PLEASE let the item be removed from the Mog Safe! That would make people actually WANT to decorate their homes. Personally, I have 3 mannequins just for storage space and I really do not want anything else on display because it gives me negative inventory space.

Mannequin Storage:
If you equip something to your mannequin, remove it from storage. Just like the above idea, this would encourage people to decorate their homes and not have naked mannequins.

Key Ring:
When I pick up a key, either make a new Key Item spot for keys, or give us separate storage for them. I know that not many people hold on to keys, usually you toss them unless you need them, but I think this would be a nice idea. Mostly just for convenience.

I know I read somewhere that they are planning on a new way to store the Emperyon upgrade items, which is why I have not listed it. They apparently already have plans for that.

And these are just the few ideas/concerns I have about storage. What do you guys think? Any suggestions yourself? And let's keep this civil people, please do not rag on someone's idea just because you can. If you think something is a bad idea, give reason as to why. Let's give Square Enix a reason to listen to our ideas and help remove any doubt they may have.

I don't think Ammo Storage is feasible. They could give us another Mog-Sack type deal, assuming the servers can handle the additional memory usage, but I highly doubt they'd be able to restrict it to Ammo/Tools only. Heck, even if they could it seems rather silly for them to do so. If a player wants to store ammo in their mog sack v2, they can store ammo in their mog sack v2. If they want to store random junk in their mog sack v2, they can store random junk in their mog sack v2.

Besides, putting ammo and tools in a separate bag won't do us any good anyways if we still need to bring them into our inventory to use/equip them. And we will have to do that. The game cannot draw from 3 sources of inventory at a time. Either we'd be able to equip ammo only from our inventory, or we'd be able to equip ammo only from our "Ammo bag".

As for removing items from your mog safe, I don't believe that's feasible either. The item data needs to be stored in some finite location. While they could attempt to create a Mog House-specific storage space similar to the equipment block for furnishings which are currently displayed, it's a rather large memory commitment to add to the servers. It sounds simple enough to do but it's a rather daunting task to create an 80-slot "equipment"-esque item storage block anyways. If Inventory is an issue, I highly recommend utilizing the Porter Moogles. That was a pretty ingenious move on the Dev team's part. Each storage slip contains a bit for each armor piece it represents. When you store an armor piece with the moogle, that piece's bit is flipped from 0 to 1. That way, the unique ID of your storage slip represents which of the items you do and don't have stored at any given time. Of course, you can't actually use any of the items being stored that way for anything, because for all intents and purposes they no longer exist. When you trade in your slip, the server looks at which bits are turned on, lets you know what you can "take out", then gives you a brand new armor piece corresponding to whatever you had stored there before. While this works extraordinarily well for standard equipment, it's impossible to make such a system work with Augmented armor or armor with current Magian trials because, when the armor is traded, the original armor piece is destroyed. For this same reason, something like this would not work for Furnishings or anything else which would require items being persistent in real time outside your inventory.

Similar issues arise with mannequins. Unless they completely re-work mannequins in such a way that they all have their own equipment storage blocks (this has very wonky implications), there's no way to remove the items from your storage.

The key ring sounds feasible, to a degree. I'm not sure how much memory they allocate per item. Each moogle slip has a finite amount of armor associated with it for a reason. There are a huge number of keys in the game. It would probably require separating key rings between coffers, chests, and forbidden keys (am I missing a type?), and a complete overhaul of chests, but it's doable. That said, I honestly don't care enough about chest keys or coffer keys to request that they devote development time to it.

Overall, since all of these suggestions have to do with inventory management, it's important to remember that our inventories are all stored server-side. All the inventories for every character, every mule, every delivery box, every AH, all of it is stored in the server memory. That's a lot of space. As the number of players in FFXI has decreased, it has become more feasible for the development team to reserve more memory per player for additional inventory. I'm sure if the development team could give us all infinite item storage, they would. However, the hardware would simply be unable to support it. Personally, being someone who has been tight on inventory for years now, I think the problem has been greatly alleviated with the introduction of Porter moogles and the mog sack. It's difficult to run out of inventory now without being intentionally wasteful.

On a side note...
Did you make that sig yourself or is there a gen out there that does it?

there is a blank sheet out there on FFXIAH you can find the original and cater it to your needs in photoshop.

i like these ideas, especially about the ammo, they should really do something like make a base quiver or bullet pouch to hold all of them. or at least make them like toolbags.

I'd like to see the ammo/tool storage separated from other stuff even if it doesn't give us extra space. It would be nice to always be looking in the same place for ammo when I run out mid fight. As is it's always at the top of the list thanks to auto-sort but I lose a bit of time, usually at the worst possible time trying to figure out why I don't have any more bullets to equip and where they are.
