View Full Version : Make Ebisu Quest Repeatable
This morning I accidentally dropped my Ebisu Fishing Rod.
I'm in the process of having a GM restore it, because this quest is not repeatable.
The quest should be repeatable in the case you drop your rod, accident or otherwise.
I wouldn't mind getting the fish again to make up for my mistake.
Another option would be to have the NPC refund it for you if you have the quest done but aren't carrying one.

If I got an Ebisu Rod and accidentially dropped it, I think suicide might be the easier option than repeating the quest.

That was one quest that I never intended doing. Until a linkshell mate just mentioned in passing that he had obtained both the Key Items needed for the quest. And was just waiting for the new conquest tally to get his rod.
Well... I was jealous as hell. Being a fisherman for profit for many years. Though never bothering to get the Ebisu.
Did the Lu Shang in 25 straight days fishing on 2 characters at once. And buying up loads of fish.
He was unfortunate enough to flag the quest with most of the conquest week still to go.
I beat him to picking up my Ebisu the same week by spamming the Selbina guild for bazaar fish for 5-6 straight days.
Think I was just under 10 million gil down by the end. I was prepared to go 40 million under at a push. Was well pleased.
Probably never used it since. And that was maybe a year ago. Figures lol.

I threw it away is kinda a poor reason for making something repeatible. I doubt they would at this time when they are at skeleton crew size would go thru and change a quest instead of just tell you to not throw away things you want to keep

Because accidents/lag/odd inventory loading blips never happen, right? I really don't think making a quest repeatable is going to drain resources, that's just an excuse. An item that's as important as this is to fishing should always have some way to re-obtain it (being it is r/ex so purchasing isn't an option). The lack of a re-aquisition option is just bad design.

But the game asks you if you want to reaaaly toss anything that has those tags on it. It's also normally set to no. So unless Ebisu doesn't have the double yes/no bit and it's set to yes then I'm not sure how even with lag you accidentally toss it. Though they did change bomb cores from being able to be thrown away to not so who knows if they will allow this to be repeated or not.

But the game asks you if you want to reaaaly toss anything that has those tags on it. It's also normally set to no.This applies to anything and everything in the game with the Rare tag on it. I doubt I'm the only one who throws these kinds of items away frequently every time I clear out my inventory, seeing as almost all items in the game that pop NMs have a Rare tag, as well as most quest related items, and so on. I mean given, yes, it does ask, and yes, it does give you the extra choice as well as starting you on no, but with the amount of items that do that already it's not really a safe blocker, if anything they should add a 3rd option for items of true honest rarity, things like Relics, Mythics, Empyreans, and other things like Ebisu that are actually hard or very time taking to obtain.
The 'Rare' tag is so completely miss-/over-used that it hardly means something is rare, it simply means you can carry only 1 of that item, and since it's so over used, the system they made you are talking about does nothing to prevent these accidents.

Look at it from SEs point. They can either waste resources to reprogram a quest (which they would then have people saying do that for all the quests) or they could just tell you to not be stupid and throw out your own item if you want to keep it. From their point of view saying there was some kind of lag is just an excuse. I mean that's the whole reason why there is an extra confirmation on rare gear. From their standpoint they gave you everything necessary to keep your gear and throwing it out is completely your fault. But just in case they can look into it and sometimes return items.
tl;dr actually pay attention to what you are doing and don't throw away your ebisus. It's not that hard

There's literally thousands of items in game that ask the confirmation to toss them. Perfect example is dynamis where you could be tossing 50+ items in a single run. Whether you like it or not, accidents happen. I feel like some one shouldn't be penalized for a 2 second mistake on something that can take 100+ hours to obtain, when fixing it would really take minimal effort. And no, not everything should have this option, but the big things like R/E/M and ebisu's should.

I think you should be able to just pick up things you have dropped for as long as you stay in the zone. Or at least the last 10 items.

What mog house in the field? You don't have access to Safe, Storage, or Locker. The other inventories are bags you are carrying.

<Please check it>
<Menu> <View HOUSE> <Select subcategory>Your Sack, Satchel, and Case are not in your house though, they are on your person and you simply store things in them, they just get listed in house because it's convenient and easier. Everything in your house is only accessible by being in a Rent A Room, using a Nomad, or being in your Room. THe way you worded it is what lead it to be misleading.

Not at all misleading.
I said using the MH in the field.
And I do.
I stand by the ocean, unequip my Ebisu etc. Hit Menu and then hit <View House> and put all my fishing gear away in there. How the hell is that misleading? When you say house, people, or at least I, think of the 3 inventories that are accessible only via your house, not the ones on your person when you are anywhere in the game. You aren't actually putting these things in your house, it's more like a backpack, if you put a bottle in your backpack while hiking you don't say you just put your bottle back in your house, you put it in your backpack. It's just easier categorization.

A group fighting Tojil must look like a crowd of people coming out of Target on Black Friday to the monster.
To be honest, I always thought all the bags were in your house, but your moogle is only allowed into certain ones to bring you stuff on the field, so you made perfect sense to me Stompa ^^.
All I know is I do believe the OP is correct for things as important as the Ebisu rod, mythic and godawful hard to get quest items there should not only be the primary precautions but either an extra precautionary or just a flat out "lock" system like some (very thoughtful) developers employ in their game. That way get it lock it in and never have to worry about it accidentally getting tossed while spring cleaning while you're sleepy. Now, please stop picking on them, they just lost their EBISU rod for goodness sake
:o

This, this too should be an option if a lock feature is impossible. Just have it like be a shiny little object like the mog tablets to indicate you dropped something and let you "check" then pick it back up. Hopefully one or the other may be used.

8 seperate button pressing isn't an accident it's negligence. Also why are you bringing your your rod to dynamis. I mean I love dynamis fishing (they really should add fish to the waters) as much as the next guy but if you can't simply not throw away your own stuff save yourself the risk. And 50+ in a single dynamis run? Sounds like you are throwing away the same item multiple times unless that is Tav and even then... the only reason to waste time like that would be to make space for other stuff in which case why are you carrying your ebisus in your invent? Also if you have time to toss you have time to pass since it takes several less button clicks to do.

No wonder the game is run by a skeleton crew if this is the extent of the expectations we have of them. Why should they even try at all if we, as customers, set the bar so monumentally low? Everything we could possibly ask of them is too much time and effort. It's no wonder they use it as an excuse so often. It seems many of us buy it lock stock and barrel.

I was imagining just a new UI item named "tossed items" where you would select them from a list with the most recently thrown at the top, and as you tossed new items, the oldest item would be pushed out of the list.
Oh, I hate to say it but that they may say "Ye ol system can't..."

They can say that about anything. Doing it through a menu sounds a lot easier to implement than to make the game spawn shiny spots all over the ground whenever you threw something away.
Lol, true...but then you won't have loads of fun watching people running around clicking on all the shinies trying to pick them up. Ah why, why do such an evil thing?

It's more like they have a skeleton crew so are too busy fixing problems with the games to spend time fixing problems with the players. Idk if you've noticed but there are litterally 8 pages of accepted bugs with the game. Some dating back 8 months. If they are that backlogged in actual bugs what makes you think they can fix what is a purely player created problem?
