Stop locking on, and you can hit things just fine while chasing them.

Orcs use a special sticky yoyo that is invisible. When you get agro they auto lock on you until you or the orc dies.

It's just lag giving you an inaccurate depiction of how far from the mob you really are. Like Rog said, just remove your target lock so you can run at what appears to be with/slightly ahead of the mob, then you'll hit it fine.

this. If you unlock your target, and run slightly ahead of the mob (how far ahead depends on how fast the mob is moving) you can attack while it is moving. This is particularly useful when trying to hit a mob which is being kited by another player.

You people need to aggro some mobs and try running from them... they chase you across entire zones... and constantly deal damage without slowing down. A player can not do this.

Cause Kiting is impossible and doesn't work...right? I'm sorry but that's just wrong, for so many reasons.

Additionally, this is the proper way to trigger red !!s on NMs like Ironclad Pulverizer if you are kiting it.

Its a Server-lag Issue, not a programming Issue. Basically if you could play ON the server like mobs do, You'd be able to do the exact same thing to mobs.

Think of it this way, If you have two people running to jeuno, on your screen you're inching him out, on his screen he's likely a good 5-10 feet ahead of you due to server lag issues, however, a third part would see you both differently. Basically when a mob is chasing you, he's more than likely always within your melee range, even though to you he looks very far out of it. Thats because in reality you're probably 2-3 Feet behind where you think you are in the game thanks to server lag.

This can also be shown rather funnily if you watch someone running from a mob and die, They will "Die" and slide across the ground a bit. Its because where you saw them die, and where the server saw them die, are two spots, so instead just dropping when they hit 0 like you do, They have to die > slide to the spot the server sees them dead on your screen.

Sorry if I'm not explaining it the best.

Some mobs are faster than others. Tigers, Coeurls and Raptors come to mind.

what others said about the lock on thing, has to do with game lag and such. some mobs you just need some range move like voke or thowing or whatever to get mobs like :

you can always just equip a ranged item (if your job allows it). it doesn't have to be anything special or damaging, just good enough to pull one mob

quite a few all job things , though maybe need more all job range attack for lower levels
