View Full Version : Records of Eminence: Skill up items... no puppetmaster?
Hi Devs, I've been skilling up my pup for a while now and after taking a recent break, i found you have released new skill up items for weapons, magics, and various others including summoning skill. I found all of these a good thing, but found that their was nothing for skilling an automaton's skill. Now don't get me wrong, i don't mind skilling up on things. But it just seems unfair that every single skill bar automatons are getting skillup items. Was wondering if these will be implemented anytime soon? Or am I subjected to another 4-5 days of slow automaton archery skillup without word? :(

I think, perhaps wrongly, that this is a "logic" issue. The skill-up pages only apply to improving the player-character's skills, so for example SMN while being a pet job do get skill-up pages this is only because the summoning skill is player based. Automatons are remote entities, they are not the same person as the player character, and so their skill-up is not related to your personal skill.
If its any consolation I got PUP75 in 2007 and had to solo/duo all the levels because of the "we hate all pups" culture at the time. And we didn't have "Percolators" back then either so skill-up was extremely slow. I am told it is much faster now because of the percolator. But we used to skill-up while we xp'ed and because it was so slow xping on Pup-only solo/duo, we usually had skills capped or near-capped by the time we levelled. So spare a thought for the dinosaur days lol. Good luck with your skill-up, I recommend Bluffalo's for level 300-420, my friend said she capped automaton melee and magic on those mobs in around a week or so, and ranged in another week.

Yeah that's a good tip- also what I do for my auto is to make a deploy macro that uses water maneuver before deploy so I'm always making sure I'm taking advantage of the percolater when trying to skill my auto.
One more tip- using the RDM frame will skillup melee (although kinda slow) as well as magic.

I think this would be a great addition since all of the other combat and magic skills are there. I could see SE using the logic that it's not the player's stats. However it is player related because the puppet is a considerable amount of the Puppetmaster's output, not a bonus. It is also the only job with a pet to skill up. They can either:
A. Maintain this desired lore that skill up items need to be used on the user. If so, just make it so your puppet has to be out and handle the animation like using Repair/Maintenance.
B. Just call them manuals and let the PUP use it in town.
An automaton is a separate entity, yes but only to a degree. It still requires the Puppetmaster to grow, issue commands and fix/repair/upgrade itself. It completely makes sense and there's really no reason not to add them if there's ones for every other combat/magic skill in the game.

An avatar is a much more individual entity compared to an automaton, which requires input from the master to do even a basic action like attacking (an Avatar will defend its Summoner acting on its own will). Lore wise, I wouldn't see any problem with manuals for the 'maton. If fact, it would make even MORE sense, seeing as they are mechanical beings.
Skilling up Automaton skills can be a pain in the {rear}, if it is possible to do system wise then they should definitely do it.

I'm not saying I disagree with you, but SMN avatars are related to the summoning magic level of the player-character. So it made sense for SE to add skill-pages for SMN magic skill. Autos are independent and their skill-up is unrelated to the player's own melee/magic skills so this imho is probably what happened with the ROE pages decision. But I don't know and it doesn't affect me so I have no opinion really.

Basically the pages would be wasted if used in town. You'd have to go outside and use the page with the Auto summoned. I have a feeling that's the issue.

I understand what you are saying and I know you're right, I was merely replying to the lore argument :)
Making skill up pages that are usable on the Automaton directly shouldn't be too hard to do, I wouldn't mind using them on the field instead of inside a town. Just say so in the item description/update announcement and have them fail to activate if used on the player.

It's funny that even though our cute matons are alive only ours seem to be basic models and depend on us for everything. Compared to the empress's or Iruki-Waraki's who have both chosen to do things sans direct input from their master. I sometimes see a puppetmaster and their automaton relationship as a Luke skywalker n R2-D2 kind of relationship. Where if we did get RoE skill books for them it would be like us looking at them and saying hey look at this book, I would like to use the things in it to help you get stronger. Now if there could be training dummies in town say near the peacekeepers guild that we could have our dolls practice on while using a skill up book on them.
