View Full Version : Campaign is an uphill battle

I don't know about other servers, but on mine campaign participation has dwindled to the point where the Beastmen control the majority of both continents. Because of this, Fiat Lux is no longer accessible, and most of the campaign battles that are available are "whack at the fortification for a while", which isn't fun for most people.
How many people would it take doing campaign in order to swing the tide of battle in the favor of the players again? Without a dedicated shell to campaign, is it even possible to experience this content like when Wings of the Goddess was in full swing?
Dev team, is there any way adjustments can be made to Campaign to make it easier for the NPCs to maintain about half of their territory instead of just their city with no player interaction? They don't need to take all the territories, but each nation should hold about 3~4 territories on their own. Their town, the area right outside, the outpost outside Jeuno (Garliage, Eldimine, Crawler's), and one more randomly in the field seems to be a good spread, and that way there's both types of campaign battles.

I haven't seen a beastmen stronghold under allied control since Abyssea fully released my server, though I've seen JPs trying to get enough influence to take them over, but they always seem to be one zone short when the tally happens. It's also hard to get enough credit in a Union in one battle to get any good drops from it. Can't really do any of the old boss battles against beastmen leaders with Abyssea and Adoulin killing the participation in Campaign, and a single LS can't contribute enough to conquer all the zones in a week when the update happens when a lot of the players are asleep.

It would be nice if they revamped this content and added better drops.

Greetings,
Producer Matsui Akihiko recently commented that though it’s something planned for the future, we will be making it so Trust alter egos can be summoned in areas where there are campaign battles. The development team is also looking into whether they can implement a lot of the feedback players have suggested up until now around the same time, such as boosting the regional effects when winning a campaign battle.

The problem that most campaign battles have is that both Sandy and Bastok have a disadvantage compared to Windy. The enemies possess Diamond Shell (Quadav) which makes it impossible to do damage from behind, and most NPC are stupid and won't change position; while Orcish Counterstance (Orcs) will destroy a full battalion with counter attack damage alone. The other disadvantage is, that to my knowledge, the allied forces can't train their Healer to nearly be as effect as the Beastmens' with the AoE Buff and Phalanx

Oh dear GOD in heaven.....
Maybe for once since... 2009(?)... 2010(?).... Allied forces might control the Throne Room and those BCNMs might be doable again. (I know SE just gave out free SE Shadowlord rewards... but not everyone picked them and not everyone was existing for that and tastes might have changed in subsequent months etc etc etc)
It's really kinda lame for a whole swath of content to be blisted just because it's nigh impossible to control the proper areas in the past today.

Or some didnt even recieve their codes for such rewards, like me... Campaign has been very bad. Just spent over an hour in one battle cause I couldnt solo kill every member of the beastman armies before more would show up. Sandy only had ronfarue and sandy itself so i guess every beastman was goin to ronfarue and not the city. eventually 2 others showed up and we manage to end it. Windy only had the city and bastok had a few more zones but i dont remember how many. But yes for god's sake please let us somehow take over more regions cause soloers (cause there is never more than 3 people in any battle these days) cant ever win regions back, or at least enough to unlock some of these campaign battles that drop nice items we will never see again otherwisse (roundel earring for example)

Let campaign reward us with heavy metal plates/pouches.
You gotta' ditch that 30 day demotion thing. I won't participate in campaign because I don't want to feel committed to playing a certain amount to maintain my medal.

Progressing in the WotG story will prevent demotions.
Completely forgot about that! Never mind then. :)

Hello, everyone!
A bit ago Producer Matsui commented that we will be making adjustments to campaign and I have some follow-up information to share about this.
In the March version update we will be making the below adjustments:
Skill-ups
It will now be possible to increase your skills when you possess allied tags and attack campaign monsters and fortifications.
Adjustments to the rise and fall of area influence
We will be raising the amount area influence is increased when the allied forces win a campaign battle. Additionally, we'll be lowering the amount area influence is decreased when the allied forces lose a campaign battle.
Through the above changes it will become easier to maintain area influence and it should also make it easier to avoid battles from occurring in the nations.

That is great news, Camate.
Another thing that could increase campaign participation is if a few new items were buyable with allied notes. There is still a *tiny* amount of items left in campaign that are situationally useful today, but who knows for how long? I'm not asking for items that rival ilv 119 gear, but a few accessories that can be situationally useful for a lot of the various jobs would be nice.
I might not be entirely correct in this assessment, but it is my impression that campaign-fans often have different priorities and desires than most of the game's player. Wouldn't it then be suitable to add some campaign gear that could give jobs rare and unusual boosts? Items that could be desirable for something that isn't the job's primary role for bleeding-edge content, but that still are really good gear pieces for other playstyles?
A lot of campaign fans have more AN than they know what to do it. Adding some gear with unusual (but good) stats that is of ilv 109-117 strength and costs perhaps 5-10 times as much AN as the currently most expensive AN gear would give something for those people to spend their AN on, and also create a desire to earn even more AN. Of course, there's nothing wrong with also adding gear with more normal stats, but I feel that these might be ignored by players if they enhance jobs in a way that is close to the same way as the Adoulin gear currently does. After all, if you need to go out of the way to get gear that is basically just like SoA gear, except a bit weaker, why would you want to bother unless you already are a diehard Campaign fan? If Campaign offers unique and unusual gear, it won't directly compete with the combat events you find in SoA (and the new high-level battlefields) when it comes to gear.
While on the topic of adding new gear to spend old combat-currency on, I also think you could do the same with IS and CP gear too. I have nothing to spend my several hundred thousand conquest points on, and I certainly wouldn't mind if some new items were added, at perhaps 150-300k CP per piece.

All I can say is: about fragglen' time!
Only been waiting for... what, more than 5 years, perhaps.
Don't you dare stop there, though! More is to be done with it yet.
(Not going to link to the few other campaign-related topics around here this time... oopsies!)

Take the level caps off? Fling more mobs at us? Kind of like skirmish in Yorcia on higher tiers.

This! Yes please. Also I second the request for new items to be obtainable through campaign. I agree they shouldn't be top tier - but it really wouldn't hurt to have some interesting level 114-116 items be obtainable through AN, IS, and CP

Just what we needed, more lag in Campaign Battles.
