I just wanted to say, after all these years, and after having completed all of the other expansions storylines (and what is available of SoA so far), I finally went back to continue the WotG missions, and am really thoroughly enjoying it. The cut-scenes are played out wonderfully, and campaign battles just add to the overall vibe of the story.

Last night I had received a cut-scene in Bastok [S], and immediately afterwards a campaign battle started. I stuck around to participate and to my surprise, saw two more players. I then saw the same two players close to Jeuno [S] right afterwards and we all realized we were doing WotG storyline missions, and ended up teaming up for the next BC fight. It felt like old times, a great and rare type of experience these days.

Being able to easily warp around to complete these quests and missions has certainly inspired me to go back and finish this content.

Don't know, but this brought a smile to my face. :)

Probably because it's enthusiasm for the game instead of childish whining!

Lol! Several more missions in now, it's really great stuff! Loving the storyline so far, and it explains a lot of stuff I was always curious about lore wise.

I need to go back and finish this... wonder how far I can get on my own lol :D

As SMN, you can likely finish it solo now. I duo'd the final fight with another BST pre-SoA, but I'm not sure if it was necessary.

I do recommend completing the quests for each nation as well, instead of just one 'path' of them.

I went through them all on two different characters; even more while helping others, and still I feel like doing them yet again. However, those paths lead to so many fond memories, memories that which I might rather not endure the recollection of that vividly...

Lest we forget... nay, I could not forget even if I tried to.

WotG has the most underrated storyline, by far. Anyone talking crap about it being the worst expansion pack clearly didn't pay attention to the story at all.

Not just the story! I'm starting to get interested in the details of campaign battle (odd I know lol). WotG definitely feels like the most immersive expansion pack as a general fan of the FFXI lore- bits and pieces of things from the previous expansions start to make sense. I was pleasantly surprised to see multiple references to Ulbuka during various cut-scenes and NPC dialogue too.

WotG was an abject failure because it did not motivate its content with useful rewards, not because the storyline was bad. Also, the missions took so long to come out that many of us had difficulty stringing together the plot over what was literally years between starting and finishing the missions. IIRC, the final WotG mission was released in the same patch that raised the level cap to 99.

So yeah, it came out on November 20th of 2007 and you are finally enjoying the plot now. Good content, horrible implementation. That might put it on the "good" side of SE releases, but that doesn't mean it was done well.

Yeah I did forget about the plot here and there due to huge gaps in mission releases. It's the main reason I am not doing the missions yet for this expansion so I don't forget lol.

Yes it took a long time to get all of the story out but that didn't make it a reaaaly good story. Also nice to have a connection with it and void watch with all of the cait sith goodness. Btw SE where are you on that cute feline finally becoming our summon? Lol

Probably not 99, but yeah, it started to go up around that time.

They did do it badly at the time, and it was only after they raised the maximum level that I was able to enjoy it. And much did I enjoy! It was, is, a good expansion, but yes, it was badly done in ways. Just as they keep doing right now, and no doubt in the future... sad but true.

What you're saying may be true, however for people who haven't experienced it yet, or completed it yet, now is a great time to do it. All of the new ways to warp around make some of the would-be-tedious questing not so bad. Really loved the story :)

Wings Of The Goddess was the greatest FFXI expansion, in my humble opinion. DNC and SCH, Campaign, awesome new areas and revamped old areas, and the mission storyline which was the best in FFXI history (imho). Uber uber uber. LL/LA last boss fight had the coolest looking mob ever too. Plus Moonshade earring, total epicalness.
