View Full Version : Abyssea Seals and Cards
Currently upon completion of a Dominion OP, a player will obtain one random Empyrean upgrade seal per Earth Hour.
Change this to be 2 Empyrean upgrade seals of the player's choosing (as to which Job AND which armor part) per Earth Day. After that condition has been met, the list will randomize itself just like now and the player will not be able to choose what Empyrean upgrade seal they receive until the next Earth Day.
As for Empyrean upgrade cards, make it so that upon completion of a Dominion OP, a player can obtain one card of their choosing, but ONLY if they have the associated +1 armor currently equipped AND this can only be done once per Earth Day.
Another idea that would work in tandem with my Dominion OP idea would be to introduce Empyrean Armor "story quests" that are specific to each job just like the "Artifact Armor" stories, and reward the player with generous amounts of Empyrean upgrade seals and cards upon completion of it. Maybe just enough to fully upgrade one piece, but not the entire set. Your official web site for Abyssea states that Empyrean Armor used to belong to a specific group of heroes, so this would be a great opportunity to expand on their lore.

The point of Dominion ops isn't to acquire seals, that's just a random extra bonus. I definitely wouldn't want +2 mats to come from ops, even with the restrictions you provided. Seals and +2 mats aren't terribly hard to come by anyway. If you can't find a group to hunt NMs then do the quests that already exist.

couldn't agree more. getting 2 upgrades per op and choosing which to get is pretty much hand feeding you the upgrade. almost nothing in ffxi is that way. Great gear should come from great patience or extreme luck. Besides, since abyssea we already have a giant flood of noobs walking around anyways. having a bunch of impatient lvl 90 noobs WITH good gear will just make things worse

If they did this ppl would never fight the nm for upgrade items. I think the seals should be random, but u should only get a seal for a 75 plus job that you currently possess. Sure you'd still get worthless seals for sets you've already done but it would cut it down dramatically.

But with the advent of Abyssea, Level Sync, Fields of Valor, and double exp it is clearly obvious that SE is trying to make the game better for casual players. Therefore this is why I suggested this to reinforce that.
Even with my idea it will still take a long ass time to get all of the armor +1'ed if people were to rely only on Dominion OPs to get their seals and cards:
Empyrean Armor +1
Hands, Head, Legs, Feet = 32 seals
Body = 10 seals
That's 42 seals total, so with my suggestion it would *still* take 21 real life days to get all +1 armor. This is not even counting the time required to get upgrade cards from Dominion OPs.
And there's how many jobs in the game? Right.
Making the process to get any gear long and tedious is just a poor way of drawing out the life of the game. If the endgame content is truly fun, people will still play it even if they have all of the gear they want.

21 days is still pretty fast. I wouldn't mind a system that guarantees you the seals you want but takes awhile. Essentially take out the randomness and make it purely a waiting game. Say for example, once a week you are able to choose whatever seal you want by being on a specific job. At the very least they need to figure out a way to put a stop to getting seals to jobs you don't even have leveled and may never plan to level.
Personally I would have liked for us to be able to buy seals with Bastion and Dom notes. Say 10-20k per seal. That's quite a bit more time invested than flat out killing a NM. I'd say it's fair and NMs would still die plenty. Abyssea is about everyone getting in on the action. Hardcore gamers will get their catering. Give it time and enjoy Abyssea while it lasts. Empyrean +2 won't be the best gear for long and by time noobs have it, hardcore folk will be banging with the next best thing as always.
Just to point out, to keep end game moving at a steady rate, you would require NMs to drop valuables. You need a reason to do end game after obtaining your gear. That reason is to make money. That was lost in large part when Abyssea came about. So hardcore gamers could also use some help on that front. We need our replacement items for haubergeons, scorp harness, Verm cloak, so on. Juogi, Grim, so on has partly filled that hole but come on, like I've said in another thread let's not forget the crafts. They are there for a reason, not to be replaced out right by Synergy and force us all to team up with others to make a gil. If a KC quality item ever comes to light for Synergy you can bet it all that there will be instances of people screwing over their partners after the sale is made.

I think our Current methods of Obtaining Gear is all right. While the system mentioned isn't Too broken, It just seem unnecessary. I like the idea of it Randomly loading a list of maybe, 4-5 Seals to chose form as a Reward rather than randomly giving you one (I think I read that being mentioned...?), BUt being able to chose the next seal you want might be a step too far?
Seems like overkill, NMs are already easily accessible, and we have Quests though a bit more random. I currently dislike the Horrible Randomness of Dominion Ops, But i think it was designed more for "Exp/Cruor/Ops Credits" than "Seal Collecting".
I wouldn't be opposed to the Idea, But at the same time, I wouldn't be to upset without its addition.
Edit: Done Editing.

In case you missed it... +1/+2 upgrade items are getting a new tweak. No details on just what it is yet, but they announced it a month ago that it was coming:

I just think people need to get off thier ass and just duo the NMs with the drops.(barring the VNm because of all the competition on em)
It would be better to have greelow procs of course but there is nothing stopping people from just killing the NM for the drops and they aren't even that hard to defeat anyway.

Great gear should come from great patience or extreme luck.
Luck should never be involved.

Luck should never be involved.
A small amount of luck is ok but this should be the difference of like Emp weapons trophies. Worse case scenario if you duo without TH you take like 45 kills instead of someone with a Thf that only takes like 35 kills.

You would fully upgrade all your AF3 within 21 days per my suggestion, at TWO seals a day.
Most Abyssea Exp parties I'm in nets me at least 40k Dominion Notes at the end of it.
So that 40k Dom Notes is enough for TWO seals per your suggestion. And this is slower than 21 days how?...

There is no reason to change the system that is in place.
NIN/DNC+BLM/WHM can duo pretty much any of the NMs for seals.
If you dont have a duo/trio partnership then just /sh
ex:
/sh Blazing Eruca DRK BLM PUP head paper do you need it? 1/4 /tell
I just omited the NIN paper that way it is locked to you. Not hard at all. Most I did when BLM friend wasnt on I did with 4 that way others could lock a seal.
Again not hard.

personally i think this idea is horrible.
i have recently (starting a week before the servers where shut down) leveld a new character done all the limit break quests, capped merits, completed CoP in 3 days, and getting 5/5 WHM AFv3 +2 in 5 days. and you want to get gear as you lvl up? there is no system before abyssea allowing you get gain items from normal mobs from exp'ing.
if you cannot be bothered to do a shout or shoun a shour run then thats your problem and you dont deserve the seals/+2 items because of your laziness. i will agee that you should be atlest lvl75+ to recieve seals for all quests reguardless of the random nature.
while i hate to see dull pink NIN/MNK/THF/DNC or full perle PLD/SAM/DRK and full teal mages. if your not willing to spend supme time doing a shout or even duo to get seals then you deserve to be that gimp. its not hard to Duo NMs for seals, i personally solo'd for alot of my seals, while soloing NIN/DNC onlu gives you 3 spels that can possibly proc and takes longer i put alot of effort soloing, people offer to team up and if they dont need the seal i want then sure i will. its not hard to get a group that is able to farm the NMs for seals.

One idea I would have liked them to impliment is that when you get a seal for completing an Ops, you should be given the choice of adding it to your party's treasure pool or keeping it for yourself. Chances are someone will want those 50+ cirque seals you keep getting.
I think once a week would be acceptable... but once every Earth day... no.

Thanks for all the feedback!
I just made a post with some more info in regards to Abyssea (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/5339-dev1003-Abyssea-Adjustments-%28more-Empyrean-whining-whaaaat-facepalm%29?p=76599&viewfull=1#post76599), and while it might not address your concern 100%, please take a look.

I personally wouldn't mind restricting the seals from dominion to jobs you have over 75 personally, I don't want to toss an 11th Charis body because DNC is stuck at 49.
At the very least...I honestly wouldn't mind "NOT" getting a seal several thousand times for something that I have already finished upgrading from Dominion Ops! x.x;;
