I reactivated my account earlier this evening after learning about the Return Home to Vana'diel campaign. I was still billed for a month's playtime when it's supposed to be free through Dec. 23 as far as I know.

Was I not supposed to reactivate manually? Has anyone else been billed?

Any information would be great. Thanks in advance!

You weren't suppose to do anything. Your account was already active without doing anything but it looks like you bought 1 month now.

Yep. Should have been specified just a bit more obviously.

They did inform people...it says it right on the website page of the campaign, people with inactive accounts are active. It's as plain as day.

Or does "will automatically be reactivated" mean something other than it being automatically renewed and allow you to log in? I guess the one thing SE did wrong was assume people would immediately go to log in since once you input your POL/SE ID info (if you reinstalled) and tried to update it would return an error if you weren't reactivated....

Hell it even asks you to link an ID.

Well bite my head-off... Personally I didn't read the main PoL, just heard about it; The way I came off I stand corrected!

I blame fatigue and not reading it right. I just wish I knew beforehand. :(

As the campaign page stated, everyones accounts were automatically activated for the temporary free period, without any action on your part. If you reactivate yourself, you will have to pay.

I had reactivated around a week before the campaign and got the email about it the next day. So Kinda bummed.

Considering the goal of this is to give returners free play time and get them to sign back up, you'd think they'd be smart enough to defer any charges until after the free play period.

One of my service accounts went inactive last night, so I guess the freebie is only for returning players, huh. >:VĂ—

Granted, I didn't think of trying to re-log in after they disconnected me, but oh well. >.<

Facedesk time!

Yeah, I get that it's kinda on me, but the campaign was supposed to be about 2 weeks of playtime. Now I have an entire month that won't even be worth it due to my job and other things taking up my time. I do wish there was a way to undo that "mistake".

You can always try *shudder* contacting support, maybe they'll be understanding of your situation.

Also note if you have any extra characters on your account that were inactive, they are now active til DEC 23 as well.

I just won't really be able to take advantage of the month of playtime which kinda sucks. ^^;

They should have put a LOCK on the payment option during this month, for anyone reactivating an account. So you couldn't pay even if you accidentally pressed a button somewhere.

Well its understandable that people might want to resub b/c they're enjoying their free time, but it seems like it would be a simple mater to not have it bill you until the free period is over.

I was asking the support via eMail if it's working as is supposed to, and as I explained how my character was kicked out during the campaign, and had to pay for the next 30 days, re-activating them manually, they mentioned that:

The Final Fantasy XI subscription used to work backward and be paid at the end of the month. In order to re-activation your POL ID, you were asked to clear the old unpaid fees. The "Vana'diel Experience Campaign" is free and won't have to pay anything else until further notice.

It seems as if they were thinking it is an older account, but as I explained (again) that it was still active until then, and that I had to pay for it again, they took that as a 'issue was solved' somehow...

I should like to see some elaboration from the Community Representatives over here as well, as I do have other matters to attend to. In particular, are accounts/Content IDs that get cancelled during (not before) the event eligible or not?
