First off I wanna say that I am sorry for making a new thread related to something that may have been discussed already or not applying it to the rules of making such a threads but I promise that I will erase it the moment my problem gets solved and I have doubts that I will be capable to find solution by doing things other way than I am about here .

Well my problem is somewhat simple . I bought my FF XI and am a completely new player . What I need to know is how to set the game to windowed mode ? I have looked for this kind of information but I only seen people writing that it should be in config in the main menu . Neither Main menu config or the in game one allow me to do anything related to the screens size or shape however so I feel completely lost . I really need my game to be run in windowed mode rather than fullsreen mode cause I have a weird problem with my laptop that sort of deactivates whatever window the user is currently using , as if someone pushed the left button of the mouse on the destop . This turns off Fullscreen mode and this on results in the game simply turning itself off considering the change of windows as an error . I believe that changing view to windowed screen will help in taking care of the problem but managing to do this is the problem in itself . So I beg for help

In case someone knows why my windows keep disactivating themselves for no reason I welcome the word of help as well . This happens every few minutes I think that it takes 5 - 15 min for my fullscreen to turn off . I am capable to play the game for this time but in no way I am going to enjoy the game if this keeps happening .

Thank you everyone in advance .

Teegrins, Shro!

When installing FINAL FANTASY XI Online, a shortcut to its configuration utility is normally installed with it. If you are unable to find it, or it simply isn't there, you can launch it from the installation directory, under either /Tools, /ToolsEU, or /ToolsUS, which should all be found in the FINAL FANTASY XI installation path.

It's also possible to have an old enough copy of the software to not have the option there yet. However, you mention having been actually played a bit, so that is not the case since it must be updated to be able to do that.

The deactivating windows issue seems like something I have bumped into before, but can't remember any specific solution, and that's somewhat off-topic on this forum so I can't really go into detail about that.
I will say that I think it is very likely to be a background application that is stealing the focus (hopefully not a malicious one at that).

On another note, whenever one submits a support request/finds their answer, erasing posts is not helpful to anyone, while leaving the problem and possible solutions out there may, and will help other users facing similar issues.

Far too often I see people editing/removing their issues and/or solutions, so I would like to ask for you to rethink your plans regarding that. ^^;

Welcome to Vana'diel, I maybe guess!

I hope this helps~

Thank you very much ! It was very helpful everything works perfectly now !

If you say that its preferable for me to leave the thread then I will leave it here . I only said I would erase that because I thought that there might already be threads like this on this forum and that I am only mking a mess by letting it stay . But if its not only not bothersome but even useful I will no doubt let it be . Thank you again for all the info , you are great !

P.S. Yes I am new to Van'diel , thank you for welcoming me : )

FFXI is designed to crash if it loses fullscreen in fullscreen mode. Windowed mode will also crash if the system goes to a fullscreen application or changes the monitor resolution. Be careful launching other games that will go fullscreen because of that.
