View Full Version : FFXI and sleep
I'm not sure if this happened to anyone else but I thought I would see if I was the only one. As I'm sure you all know FFXI is down and has been for quite a bit. Without noticing I have been staying awake longer and longer surfing the internet out of boredom. Before FFXI went down I would fall asleep around 11~12 at night. Now I find myself staying awake until 10am the next day :(. I'm currently forcing myself to stay awake as long as possible so that I can cycle through and have a regular sleeping pattern again.
If you are having the same problem let me know what you are doing to stay awake haha.

Before the game went down I would go to bed between 11pm and 1 am. I have been in bed by 10pm pretty much every night since it went down.
I wish I could do that >.<. It seems that without FFXI I stay awake longer for some reason.

It's the opposite for me. When FFXI was up I would stay up until 5-8 or 9am most of the time. With FFXI down I'm usually going to bed around 2-3am or so. I tend to get sleepier faster out of boredom I guess.

I am with the OP. I would always be offline by 9-10pm. & spend time with my wife & go to bed around midnight with her. Now I am surfing the net, reading pointless articles & staying up until 2-4 a.m. I am going to avoid the internet today once my wife wakes up & get my sleep back on track. Be in bed by 8 p.m. tonight & get a good nights sleep & my pattern back on track.

I've been sleeping 2-3 hours more with FFXI down. I get bored and TV isn't worth the money I pay for it so I just go to sleep.

Yeah, opposite for me - gaming time used to be 9pm to 2am, now I go to bed at the same time as the kids at 9pm (and wake up at 5am for cartoons... /sigh)
Can't wait to get back into the swing of things, rolling out of bed shattered at 8.30am XD

I have experienced quite the opposite. My linkshell generally does events at 2AM EST. That usually kept me up until 6-?AM EST then I would go to bed after. Maximum 6 hours of sleep MAYBE before getting up and dealing with work, family, etc.
Now that has changed. I have been sleeping all night, at least 8 hours a day. Getting up around 8-10AM EST, with bedtime around 12-1AM EST.
So in short, the loss of FFXI has actually realigned a BETTER sleep schedule for me, more stable. I guess it proves the addiction to an online game can be very damaging to your sleep, lol.

get yourself diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, bipolar 2's insane cousin. you'll have huge fits of insomnia.

lol i also have a self-imposed bed time, at least on the weekdays, i drive my husband to work 5/7 days of the week so i decide to get more sleep so i can do things i need to do the next day.

I am having the same troubles as OP. It looks like a lot of us do have our sleep disrupted by ffxi one way or the other. Its easy to understand when you are staying up half the night doing an event etc but is does seem weird that it affects us when its not even available.

I haven't noticed much of a difference. If I'm not on XI, then I'm playing on steam shooting zombies, or drawing.

You sir have insomnia, I already suffer from insomnia I don't need a game to make it any worst. The only thing that honestly keeps you up at night is the feeling of excitement/anxiousness. You need to tell yourself to relax and its just a game and there are better things in life like having a hot girlfriend who can massage your back at night :P

I've slept 10 hour nights. When my kids go to bed at 8pm, I'm right there ready for bed too. Has been less awake time trying to fill in the spaces with nothing to do but wait for the game. I don't live for the game, but when I have down time, it sure makes things a bit more fun. I'm so sick of tv, nothing is ever on and I'm broke as hell, so not much else to do but surf the internet. I can say tho, I have leanred stuff I never thought I would by reading useless articles.

no, i had a dream so real, i woke up pissed that it wasn't. i had imagined i had spent 7 hours in different abyssea zones +2ing my armor.

Zomfg. I totally understand Cyx. Typically I'd go to bed at midnight with FFXI up, unless Im doing NMs but.. THEN sleep is for the WEAK.. but like.. >.< Ill be up til 1, 2 ,3... Trollin' forums/facebook waiting for something exciting to happen. ; ;
