A white mage who decided healing was not his job and that being a melee is. Stopped casting his first cure spell midway so he could hit the lizard in dunes. Level 10 sync group, all I did was watch as most died within a few seconds (I was debuffing, then ran to zone as it killed someone else)

a few times someone desperately wanted to pull so much that they did, even though they were NOT puller, and wiped the pt with either double pulls, link pulls, or aggro pulls.
BLMs in dunes that nuke leeches on "accident", especially repeatedly.

It's been on topic. Off topic is this:
I noticed in your quote you beat maat with whm. If I'm correct, you need to have done that through damage defeat, not healing. Otherwise, you'll hafta go back and beat him up. That's for maat's cap I mean.
On topic is this:
I told the party leader I can pull, then died 2 steps from party through aggro in qufim. darned undead, and I wouldn't have gotten aggroed if I took a cure first.

That's not noobish, unless you kept your weapon put up. I'd grab refresh, then show mobs what a staff could really do, and what it felt like. Would put use the many times you're out of mp.

Qufim Island. Nearing night time at the lake worm camp.

"There isn't an argument, because we're staying until I say so, the skeles aren't going to be out for another 10 minutes."

Alright, let's go higher level content this time, just remembered the worst colibri party leader I ever had.
This of course was post-level sync update.
The party leader is a DRK, the party is about level 55, we head out to the leypoint camp, and it's taken. We check the other viable camps in the area, taken. We switch zones, and check the camp outside the Nashmau docks from Whitegate. This one is open so we have to settle for this already poor choice of a camp.
Party starts, we're doing "okay", I believe I was on DNC and pulling. Then I begin noticing that the Dark Knight isn't weaponskilling. I do not say anything, and continue to observe. Then I notice...he isn't even landing hits... /facepalm. I don't say anything, as he's the leader. 5 minutes later, he weaponskills. ... He uses "Slice" and my fist goes through my skull cause not only does he use Slice, he does 0 damage (don't know how it landed). Thus begin the /tells to other party members about this atrocity. They all agree, he needs to go. Once I get everyone's consent/agreement (wasn't hard) we begin looking for a replacement for him. Soon as we find one, we all just completely stop. He begins wondering what the hell is going on. "Why'd you guys stop?" No one replies. We wait about 5-10 minutes for the replacement to get close and then do a simultaneous drop from his party and never say a word to him. He starts flipping out. So, we explain. Doesn't help. Let's just end it there, basically, he dies a lot (we even raise him once) after this point and theres lots of swearing as I stare at him in pity and tell him to go skill up.
Best (or worst?) part? He wasn't even the level sync. I was also out dding him as DNC about a hundred fold +.
Edit: Did I mention he was wearing the DRK af boots the whole time?

Ok, talking about lack of skills...here's one zyeriis....
I used my "Sharpshot" automaton for the first time in a meripo (no skill level meant I didn't use him because I knew he couldn't hit) because the pt leader told me to. It was almost 3 hours into the party my automaton started hitting, and another 3 before he started doing damage. The second 3 hour gap was because each time he hit, he got a 0.5 skillup, and it took 3 hours with that before he was high enough skill wise to do damage.
The whole time I offered to pull out my capped valoredge, because not only could it hit, it could actually do damage. He said "nah, just use this time to skillup that sharpshot."

Ohhh I did a pt munity like that too only i was a bit more public about it.
before my story though ill say this:
I think you did a bit wrong, was a bit rude just to shock him, I have talked to people that where underperforming too much where they left at their own will. I once lead a nyzul party where someone wanted to go drk, I asked them a few questions in gear selection to see if he could perform well enough. He saw on his own I wanted a bit more then what he had ( I requre at lest a tp set and a ws set since at 75 nyzul ile you can lack damage if everyone is not up to a standard). So he left, without a complaint. I do not mean to sound elitist in saying this but I have had bad drks before that did not gear properly and lost due to lack of damage. I was a bit picky when it came to gear on BLU and DRK for nyzul, those jobs where hit or miss, you got really good ones or really bad ones.
now back to my story
Pt was me war, PLD, THF, others.
the pt leader was PLD and i was told to voke for sata, so i said ok
Now birds and inchi does not mix well, i had to cast when I was on 2 or 1 shadow left or no hope in getting it up. So i would voke, and cast inchi and still get into like 50%- red hp so i started to watch closer in why instad of my timers.
Looking closely I saw the following:
the pld was duo boxing the thf
the thf was not casting utsusemi
the thf was auto running the mobs to mess up the sata ( this is how i knew it was duo boxing)
first i complain about the thf not casting utsusemi because that wastes mp, and messes me up because if the rdm or w/e is curing the thf I do not get cured waiting for the sata.
he said it was for evade skill ups and that he did not have tools or something to that effect and not having money. he then said it was not a big deal because he was not getting hit.
i try to tolerate this because I only had liek 1 hr left before school.
Then the auto running became more problem.
I started to complain about the auto running messing up sata or being to slow in sata thus was the reason i was almost dieing or did ( i think I did die once I do not remember)
he said I was too slow in voking ( I started to add a small delay to make them line up quicker)
eventually he kicks me out of the party and gets a new member.
I then sent tells to my replacement, and to the other party members, got them all to join me, got a brd for 6th.
He then tried to make a new party to camp on top of me that end up braking in like 30 mins because it sucked.
about 10 mins before i have to leave I get this tell (this was before that new party broke)
"hey is anyone leaving soon? this party really sucks"
I replay , yes you can replace me, I have to go soon anyway. (the war stayed in that other pt till it broke then waited for me till i had to go)
so they continue without me and sir gimp at duo boxing leaves the area after his second party broke.
short version : PLD and THF makes a party with me
gets a replacement for me/ kicks me that point
i have everyone join me ( so the other 4 + me is 5)
got brd for 6th
old leader makes a new party
someone in the new party asked me if anyone was leaving soon
that person took my spot.
I stole 5 of his members in total

I feel absolutely no remorse for that mutiny. As he had a level 75 job, which he came back and tried to kill our mobs with and failed, miserably, and died repeatedly on, which is even more pathetic. There was no excuse for having a skill so far gimped that he didn't even have Dark Harvest in a level 55 ToAU bird camp and was party leader (the party set up was pretty sucky to boot). He died at our feet and we gave him a raise, he denied it and sat there for about 20 minutes, complaining that he didn't have time to skill up. Irony is amazing.

Oh i understand, the thing is though if you sent him a tell , maybe he had GA leveled or something ( GA or axe is better but axe needs level 56) you might not have gone though that.
People are easly angered to mob kill like that.
I had a level sync party in east ron, I noramlly don't like to find reps because I duo box outside healer sometimes. I told this guy to find a rep and he said he could not find one. I told him a few times I found a drg.
closer when he is about to leave he said he has a blue on the way, I told him to tell the blu no i found a rep already and told you ealier.
the blue mage comes anyway and starts to kill all our mobs. -.-
hmm no time to skill up? I don't why someone would play MNO with such limited time, though skill up issues need to be less atm.

A BST that at the beginning of the Valkurm Dunes party took control of a monster that killed him and the party leader.
Then, he tried to take a monster 3 other times which got himself killed and the party leader was killed again.
His monsters were also getting us like 50 EXP only, then he left party cause he was a failure with the party leader.

Only thing i can think of is when a pt i was in had a pl in yhutunga and the lead and the pl both wanted to kill Overgrown Rose cuz they thot it was a boss(their words).I told them a "boss" checks as impossible to gauge not incredibly tough but noooooo. I'm pretty sure I do something every day that makes someone facepalm.. >.>
One example, in Abyssea Attohwa, me and a 2 friends from the linkshell were duoing Aggressor Antlion. One friend was SMN90 and the other was BLM90 (me being SMN as well, but lv71.)
We were kiting the darn Ant, and my Garuda was supposed to keep the Ant busy when my friend's Garuda died or was Released (and my Garuda actually did sometimes!) So when I saw him Release his Garuda, I thought "Oh, we're probably pulling back for a reason! Release, quick!" (I have a phobia for doing something wrong,) I hit the Release Macro and at that moment realize that I maybe shouldn't have done that as the ant gets closer and closer.
Luckily we were able to pull right. We still lost, but not a 2nd time. Floored him the 2nd time!
And one day I was heading towards some LS friends who were camping a Tonberry NM in Abyssea. I didn't have the Confluxes in the area so I sneavis'd up and started running towards them with Carby out. What I didn't notice however, was that at a certain point Carby was no longer following me. However I noticed that as I arrived at the battle scene and as I looked back I saw an imp headed towards me in all it's glory, just having beaten my Carby to a pulp. ;_;
Ofcourse, once again, if I recall correctly, I got the whole team wiped.
OR! When we went to fight the pugils BCNM (shooting fish?), me and my dear SMN friend headed towards the burning circle, only to find out that I still had my old orb. I had forgotten that you don't get a new orb if you still have your old one.
Oh and by the way, this all comes from a lv71 SMN, though even today, at Lv90 SMN, I have at least 1-2 fails every day.
Sometimes it makes me feel like I'm perhaps not really made for this game, but the addiction and the rare "good job!" moments do make all the fails seem minimal.
I know two things though, 1.) I still have a lot more to learn, 2.) I love the Linkshell I'm in. I love every darn player in it, they're very kind and I thank them for all the patience they have with my often-facepalm moments.
(Also, P.S.: The above, is only a fraction of a fraction of the total of fails I've had over the years.)

Crawler's Nest party. 5 people in an ls invite me (A red mage) to heal. I come down and realize these crawlers aren't dying very fast...and they are reaaaally getting hammered by that thing. Turns out the highest lvl gear someone was wearing was lvl 12 harness....
When confronted about this, they said they had no gil and farming was too hard. Needless to say this red mage took his services elsewhere. EXP was abysmal and there weren't enough cures around to keep them alive.

I remember running in Quifum with my two friends, one whom was on his 65 BLM and the other was leveling a low level job with me. our BLM friend targets Quoofim and goes, "Hey! I wanna kill it!"
We are in Xbox Live chat so we sit there and watch and see if he dies. Our friend casts a spell on it and runs to the OP and the NM comes unclaimed. a level 90BLM runes in and casts Burst II on it, claims it and starts going through all his spells to kill it. He gets it down to 15% then Convers and gets hit and dies...
We are just sitting there going, "WTF? How did he die?!?" and my friend who also has a level 90BLM exclaims, "he didn't put up Manawall when he converted... So he died....To Quoofm....Hahahaha" /facepalm.

Lvl 10-15 rdm about 4 years ago (2007 ish) being escorted by a nice mithra rdm to the dunes. Talking with her, telling her what is already painfully obvious that it was my 2nd day playing and I didnt know anything. Walkin from Sandy, she asked "Do you have a tele?" Being new and very poor at the time i said "No I dont have a telephone at the moment" Without skipping a beat she said "No I mean do you have the teleport crystal so we dont have to walk" I felt about as big as a Taru at that time.

I get asked to help some one with the final chapter of CoP. Since I'm experienced in this field and am more than glad to help, I accept the request. The person who asks me isn't the leader of the group.
We get through 8-1 and 8-2. Then disband and agree to regroup the next day after everyone has solo flee run their respective towers.
Once this is done, and we regroup the next day, I help them with getting their brands for the 8-3 pot fight.
Once this is done, I start talking about getting a PUP to come solo it for them.
Party leader chimes in: "No, PUPs suck, they can't solo anything, are you retarded?"
I am speechless at this ignorant comment.
After gathering my composure.
"Who's done this before?"
Leader: "I have."
"And how many times did you die during the fight?"
"What's that matter?"
"I didn't die once? I've done this more than once?"
"I don't care, I don't let PUPs in my party, they're useless."
"Okay, ignoring captain ignorant, the rest of you want to not die and lose exp/waste your time right? Do any of you have PUP?"
Party member: "Agreed, I have PUP. Want me to switch?"
Leader: "No, I'm the leader, we're not going to waste our time with something as stupid as PUP."
"Well then, you can solo it yourself then, I'm only here to help, if the rest of you actually want to clear CoP come with me and <person I'm helping>"
*Party drops and reforms on me*
*We clear CoP from that point without any failure on the pot fight*
*We all /facepalm at former party leader's retarded bias*
*Former Party Leader rages and doesn't clear CoP*

Can't remember any right now, but I remember several /facepalm moments before the mob depop patch when I would be stuck outside a zone (usually GC or CN) because there were a buttload of trained mobs at the zone. <.<;
The most Noobish moment I have whitnessed in game...
I think that would have to be seeing a Red mage soloing Genbu and Converting before using an Antidote or Stoneskin.
Actually, scratch that.
It would totally have to be seeing this Galka Samurai get nailed by Dissevernment in Diorama(Ballista) from a Blue mage just before he killed the Blue mage...then he left Diorama and died to Dissevernment Poison right outside Mog House in Ru'lude Gardens.

There's people who were gone longer that adapted quickly.
Of course, my main sounds like it's getting snubbed completely now (Corsair) so that's going to be a problem. Least I got SAM and DRG to rely on. Though my other job (PLD) is also getting snubbed apparently. Maybe I'll finish DNC too. And finish BLM on my alt mage character. Anyway, off topic.

But for the sake of posting, I remember this guy in Qufim Island casting Bind on worms (inb4 skill ups). Another one was this JP WHM in a PT that would always make sure to Silena himself first after Imps use that Silence move (Cannot remember name, Abrasive something).
Back in the day of lolsky I was the only BLM present for Suzy (they didn't have a rdm/drk). The leader at the time asked me to switch pt's so I dropped and flagged up, he had the attention span of a goldfish and forgot to invite me.. They popped, I /sit and watch from a distance asking them to invite me, nothing happened as the pt leader was a pld (who unsurprisingly was incapable of tanking it and inviting someone), it used CS, they died, I dropped pearl.

Ill list a few(tryin to remember some of my own while i read these i know i had some):
Pre Abyssea:
My roomate went exploring with some friend and made it to jueno at 15, one guy forgot to pick up tele point and had his hp set to jueno. This was about 1mnth after NA relase so werent as many bored high lvls jus chillin and willing to help.
Another of my roomates in a dunes pty was being told he was main healer as hume blm lvl 10. i told him that not what blms do so dude got mad, he /sea me i guess, at the time i was lvling nin sub for my war. He send me a tell saying "you only a 32 nin you have no clue what your talking about, im a 50 blm i know it better than you." I humor him with the response "o really well excuse me i guess your smarter than me" . I tele to dune my fried and 2 ppl leave pty and i pl them 75blm/37whm -.- then he tries to curse at me telling me im stupid jus cuz im 75 doesnt mean nothing.
I had a 75 nin in exp who didnt have ni.(kicked)
Had a blm in lvl 60 pty come out who didnt buy any spells past tier 2 because he said they cost too much mp.(kicked, and he didnt have warp or d2 either or any sleep spells, so gettin booted aactually mattered to him it seems)
during a pet burn in cadavea mire had a bst who refused to use anything but jus pet, and was using a saporling(i think i know it was something stupid weak with low hp and subbibg nin.)(kicked)
had a bunch of people in a pty call me a gill seller(yes not even buyer they said seller) cuz i was wearing all +1 gear half of which was signed by me @lvl 25.
had a pty ldr kick me in the dunes when i was lvling whm sub cuz i wasnt wearing astral ring as a lvl 24 taru.(im a taru that doesnt believe in the sacrifice of hp over 15, and even then i try not too unless i really gotta)

Okay so back in the day I'm on my way to a dunes party and blood tear was up. An alliance of 60-75 were fighting it and I stood at a distance for a bit watching. Next thing I know two of the plds and three whm are all dead. I'm all omg it's gonna go yellow n kiiillllll meeeee!!! So I left them feeling a bit scared about the NM.
Another one was when I was in my 50s on ninja right after the mpk patch was put in and was partying deep inside Gustav Tunnle. The whm who was the leader was an idiot so my husband and I got the the rest of the party to get him killed. He was also missing spells that a friend was supposed to be bringing. Anyways his replacement R2s him he doesn't take it sending a /tell of course after getting mad at the party for killing him saying he has same friend coming to R3 him.
Was helping some people with promy-holla. This was before the level cap was taken off. This guy on war says he needs to afk and that he is on follow. Doesn't inform who he is following on so not knowing it is me I do a gear swap. He almost agros a good section of floor 3 when he comes back. Later on the same floor he gets distracted while on auto run. Argos like 5 mobs. We kill them all but not without having to zombie a few along with some mobs that agroed while we half alive. Haven't done much with the person since then.

I won't go into details but if I recounted every time I went into the Sacrarium for CoP 4-3 with a shout group/helping a group that has some one I know in it, I'm sure I'd facepalm a hundred times, mostly about people dropping sneak/invis while surrounded by fomors, or epic fails against Kermet. Or even more epic fails at fighting the professor. Or /facepalm moments at people going ON the count of 3 while the other person goes AFTER the count of 3 for the double key door, and the key breaks, making us waste another hour getting another key. Cannot forget those awful swift belt runs to boot.

The most noobish one I've seen is when there is that ONE person in your PT that is bragging about whatever (usually how awesome he can do *any* job or the job he is in the PT) and you tell him "fine go out and do it how *you* think it should be done".....
They take 3 steps and boom you get a "can I get a raise?!" because the genuis died to a "easy prey" mob....because he was wearing LVL 1 gear at lvl 40.
Also then you have a lvl 50 who died to a "to weak to be worthwhile" goblin in West Ron as a lvl 6 is taking on 2 gobs at once...
Then the lvl 6 finishes her goblins and has to help the lvl 50 >.>

Yeah, it's kind of hard to say "Hey...you just kind of suck on many different levels." to someone who's in your LS. When they're strangers in a party or alliance, it's easier because you don't personally know them. Well, if you didn't care for them in the LS, then I guess it would be easy to say that lol.

LOL the whole LS told him that on a daily basis. And they would send him on random stuff to just get "rid" of him..because he would mess anything up that the LS was doing. He has since quit the game...and last I heard he was over in Japan- but not sure on that part.
A noob moment that I had whitnessed:

i showed up to a party recently in East Ronfaure [s] and asked if dancer was our main healer if so we were screwed (i noticed our tank was a war/nin) the war began to spout off non sense about he would "Teach me how to war". I ignored his obvious little nerd challenge of "My epeen is bigger than yours" and still his ego got the better of him. He unpartied us and began to solo a colibri just near the camp. I won't lie it was a close fight but after failing to cast utsusemi ichi about 10 times in a row the colibri pecking flurry'd him to death. (We had no white mage, so the warrior had to hp to aht urhgan and we spent another 20 or 30 minutes waiting for him to return to get started on exp)

I'd say it's never a good idea to try and be a show off, because that's when you're more likely to fail.
I was PLing a Dunes party, their leader wandered off to change jobs and I joined one of their party members to take on the NM that was next to our camp. I wanted to flex my muscles and they wanted to see what it dropped. He started attacking whilst I was still buffing, he died pretty quickly (think he was either level 30 or 40), I tried to solo it and died. Luckily I had reraise up. The annoying thing was, if I put another stoneskin up, I might have lived.
In terms of stupid job combos, at level 18, I was MNK/WHM, it didn't get me any party invites and I found it was basically useless. My argument was: well, I need to heal myself, surely?
I'd also say the noobiest people are the elitists who love to flame people and display high levels of douchebaggery. They might not be noobs at playing the game, but they're certainly noobs to life. Saying that, some are noobs at the game too.

Oh, I've run parties where somebody's just standing there lecturing another player on how to do their job. I think we had a PLD who was receiving lessons in being a tank (he was doing fine IMO). I don't mind getting advice from other players, after all, I can learn something, but I don't go around voluntarily telling people how to do their jobs when they've not asked for any advice. But of course, the fact your guy got himself killed is pretty funny. Whilst I had a show off moment above, I didn't bring my ego to the table, because I know I'm probably not the best Scholar in the world, the fact I died proves that. :P After all I should have been able to solo the NM.

Ok. This ons is good, and I hope some other people on my server come and back me up. Hope someone from Quetz is reading this. We had this one player, affectionately known by the initials JRS, who claimed to be the best player on the server. He has sooo many stories, yet this is the one thing is that defines him and most of the people who inhabit Quetz know of this story, I believe through our server forum.
So this guy, JRS, is seen in an exp party around.... 52-58, possibly 60 in a colibri party, level synced down from at least 74. This was his job combination : SCH/NIN. Now /NIN doesn't seem too debilitating, but once you get to his reasoning for it, you can join the collective /facepalm that the rest of us have actually come to miss. When asked "why /NIN?" he responds "for shadows, obviously". "If I cast Utsusemi: Ni and then Utsusemi: Ichi, I'll have 7 shadows".
....
......
.........
...........
You read that correctly. He vehemently claimed that this worked even though the members in his party were telling him it doesn't. There was absolutely no way to convince this guy that he was wrong. He had several flame threads about him posted up on our server forum and has since then hopped servers because he was ridiculed on a regular basis, and harassed almost everywhere he went. Not to say he didn't deserve most of it, he never actually showed any in-game etiquette to the people who tried to help him out by giving him proper information. The best ones really were the mass amount of different BLMs who would sit in Whitegate and blind invite him, probably while he was shouting nonsense, where he would accept party invite, and then be retraced. This has happened several several times and each time he returns to whitegate, demanding to know why said BLM has cast retrace on him, typically within the next 5 minutes.
I would tell more stories but his n00bism is legendary, and I honestly can't remember them all and hope someone else from Quetz stumbles on this thread and contributes. Every time someone brings up JRS its always good for a laugh. He's on Bahamut now, some of us on the server miss the laughs he gave us.

A certain pld on fenrir server who just at that time recently got his aiegis. was out at adamantoise. his party entailed him on pld/nin. and a rdm and 3 whm. camping in secret and missing the claim cause didnt want to fight a nq turtle was only day 3. we sit back to watch the show to collect tod. As we sit there waiting everything is going smooth. Now all the mages where cureing. 1 of them was probley set up on a cure bot program. but the end result 18 min into the fight the pld falls over dead. This player did however become a much more humble player after this occured.

Speak of Hasting a RNG, I remember back when I did Merit parties on my RDM and we had a RNG in our party who wanted to go balls out and show all of us what a KC RNG could do... so He told me to haste and keep him healed.
I have never seen a RNG use a KC before but now that I witnessed it I don't ever want to see it again... Especially on Colibri..
It looked like this.

The Greater Colibri readies Feather Tickle.

Yesterday I offered to help some people kill Kharon for seals since I needed to kill skeletons for my Magian Staff.
We didn't have a BLU or BRD, and the two people who were /nin didn't have the elemental wheel. -slaps face-

My old linkshell had this terrible rdm. One day when we were killing aspi, his job was to handle adds. On the pull, we get a single raptor add. He has "one" raptor to take care of. About 3 minutes later, another raptor starts attacking the tank. It is slightly damaged, so we start to think that another shell DoTd it to try and mpk us. We tell the rdm (Ill refer to him as "T") to handle the second add. This is when we notice that he is dead. Turns out this new raptor is actually the original one. His excuse: "I cant solo these raptors without joyeuse". This moron tried to melee the raptor down with a staff instead of sleep/nuke it lmao.
Another story about "T". Me and a friend go out to duo cacatrot rapido on rdm+brd. This guy asks to tag along. We feel bad since this guy is constantly made fun of and rarely ever asked to come do anything, so we let him tag along. His sole responsibility is to poison rapido. 25 resists later we discover that he doesnt even own a NQ water staff. After loaning him a HQ staff, he "still" couldnt land poison.
Another story about "T". Claimed that his provoke recast is 25 seconds when he wears turban.

Farming Despot years ago... Finally he popped and people tried to kill him melee style... Obviously many people died before myself (BLM) and the DRK managed to get hate and pull it to the corner of the map and kite it.
Once the other party members recovered from weakness, they came to join us. PLD was first to get there and instantly used flash on Despot while stood next to 3 sprinklers (Pots). They naturally agrod him and killed him. Since he was the last person to touch Despot, Despot went yellow and another group that was there claimed it.

Last Night:
"Pay Me and I won't steal your beetles"
then
"I need somebody to open the Banishing Gate"
Why should we? If you asked nicely on the other hand...
I had partied with the guy the day before and he was a major troll then and it seems, a failure of one, "gahahaha I'm going to be a troll...but I need your help".
Also, I find elitists in the game are the biggest noobs around, it's so ridiculous, yet funny watching them talk. Most of them would rather sit around berating people they call noobs instead of actually helping them learn - I spoke to an elitist about it and he claimed that noobs never learn. Which isn't true, I find myself teaching people, not all of them listen straight away, but they can learn, you're just got to approach them in the right way, instructing people how the HAVE to play their job doesn't work, but teach them what they CAN do and how it helps the party, people can get defensive when you start bossing them around or even start insulting their intelligence - a lot of the time I find myself teaching people about crowd control as my 2 top jobs are SCH and COR, which are useful for both, very few people think to actually cast sleep when somebody aggros or links - it seems people's instinct is to zone or to spread the damage, but I try and avoid that, a lot of the time you can deal with it without zoning. When people try to take on the pulled mob and the aggro'd mob at the same time, it's a real pain when it comes to casting sleep, I just tell them to attack ONLY 1 mob, they do it and I can sleep them and they learn that if somebody in the group can sleep, then you're not going to face and fatalities so long as you're sensible about it. I find it's a lot better than going, "lolnoob" and kicking them for doing something you might deem 'noobish'.
With this, I add Port Jeuno shouts to noobishness, sometimes you just hear elitists say the stupidest things.

He was using the OA2-4 times dagger, with rather horrid gear only managing to spam feed yacu tp and making it so much harder on myself while myself and rng had been managing fine earlier. Told the other dnc if he was going to fight it and make it tp more/hundredfists sooner, then to use his tp to help cure me (since he was sitting on 300 the whole time) did not once cure me.
When I got into a bit of trouble and didnt have enough tp to cure myself as I'd been wsing, expecting the other dnc to cure me, rng started throwing everything he had to get hate off me and give me an extra few seconds to recover. Unfortunately I died before he could get hate, but of course, it immediately went for him over the other dnc. What did mr dnc do? HE...immediately turned and ran away when I died, leaving rng to die. Of course it then killed mr dnc a few seconds later. When asked why he didnt cure me...'because whenever I cure someone I always get hate and die'.
We later told him to just not touch it and use no foot rise- reverse flourish for tp to cure me after assuring him he couldnt get hate off me like that. Instead of curing me (still) he just used haste samba on himself (while not ever fighting anything). When we asked him why he was using haste samba since it only gives me the -delay if he hits the mob, his response was 'to haste himself'.
Horrible noob, but to be fair, he was polite, and grateful, and I can only hope that he had thf lvled as the reason why he had a magian dagger and that his lack of knowledge was based on not having played the job for long (the only time I hoped that someone had aby leeched something I was in a pt with...)

Personal experience.
I went into Castle Oztroja for the first time, so I didn't have a map yet (haven't gotten it yet I mean). I was there because I was helping others with rank 4 quest (them not knowing I was also on the mission).
Got my cutscene, I warped everyone else out. I thought "this is a good time to go exploring" so I did. I was a level 50 BLM at the time.
I get to the four switch door not knowing that the code is somewhere else, so I decided to try opening it myself. The mobs behind me checked EP, so I knew I could just sleep them and all that. Not knowing (or realizing) that I didn't have any MP, because being the noob I am, I forgot to rest after sending all those people home.
So, I'm hitting my sleep macro when I realize I have no mp, so I tried to run for it. Not only did I get lost trying to get out of there, but I managed to link the entire zone, including the 2 NMs on both north and south sides of the first floor (campers there were afk, go figure) and died RIGHT in front of the zone out. Almost made it.
That was my greatest noob moment in FFXI history.

Long time ago, I was pulling a bunch of mobs for a pt I was PLing for a friend.
The new BLM saw all the mobs I had and decided to test his new AoE spell: Stonega!
He died a horrible, bloody death in a matter of.... eh a quarter of a second and all the delicious exp I had trained had gone to waste, but I could not stop laughing.

Also, I find elitists in the game are the biggest noobs around, it's so ridiculous, yet funny watching them talk. Most of them would rather sit around berating people they call noobs instead of actually helping them learn - I spoke to an elitist about it and he claimed that noobs never learn. Which isn't true, I find myself teaching people, not all of them listen straight away, but they can learn, you're just got to approach them in the right way, instructing people how the HAVE to play their job doesn't work, but teach them what they CAN do and how it helps the party, people can get defensive when you start bossing them around or even start insulting their intelligence
Some of the better players (you don't have to be elite to be good) gave up on teaching others because others typically don't want to be taught. I can't count the number of people I've met that don't gear swap for anything, then write the job off as crap later. I've seriously had at least 4 variations of "then I have less inventory space" when I tell them about gear swaps, and some even called me a cheater stating "Its a glitch/hack/mod that lets you do that!" Some noobs learn (I happen to have a few I've helped over the years on my FL), but most seem to be noobs by choice.

Got a few more I thought of.
Once way back when I was lvling whm sub in an ls pt in dunes. Had a friend come in on rdm (not his main). We were fighting crabs in the trees where all the leeches are and I noticed the rdm diaga one time. I assumed he just did it by accident and let it go. Then he did it again. I pointed out to him please dont do that, if you hit a leech they're all going to link on us. He did it another 2 times and twice we of course, got links. By the 3rd time he did it, whoever the tank was had grabbed his links to try to save him and rdm immediately ran to selbina to save himself. Much yelling ensued.
Another was a noob moment from myself. My first job was smn and because of my time zone, all my friends had gone to bed by the time I'd get home from work on weekdays so I'd always just exp alone. After getting to 75 I still had no diabolos and my new bf (who also played) organised a group to get him for me. My sole responsibility was to curaga to wake everyone when slept. So we all buffed up at start, I drank my poison pot, everyone got slept including myself, went to curaga and....nothing happened. And I couldnt move. After spamming that macro a few more times I realised I was slept still and my poison wasnt waking me. I forget what happened then exactly but we still won, after getting yelled at by a few people one of the guys realised that since I had soloed smn I'd probably never had to deal with this rule, nobody had ever told me that I had to cancel stoneskin for poison to affect me ; ;
Earlier than that I was soloing crabs on my smn in kuftal using shiva to sleep then rest when I needed mp. Had a guy in my ls beg to come along as 40 something whm for skillups and was very insistent about it. Told him how I was fighting with the sleep - rest he said ok. So then I went along, got it near dead with barely any mp left. Sleepga, release, go to rest and...it immediately wakes and starts to kill me. I realise whm had put dia on it. He claimed he did nothing when it was slept to wake it. After he had to raise me and I started fighting again. Same thing happened, although this time I saw it and tried to outlast it before releasing, but just ran out of mp and died again. He then decided to tell me I was no good at this soloing and left, then started laughing in ls about how I was trying to sleep dia'd mobs and people called ME the noob >_>....

Also (@Saefinn), most high level players are pretty chill. The people who tend to run their mouths off all the time in Port Jeuno about how awesome they are are typically mid-level morons who think they're hot stuff. Most of the best players in this game tend to keep to themselves or their friendgroup. It is universally frustrating to deal with mule-headed or willfully ignorant players.

My nooby moment happened when getting THF AF Dagger. I'm on my lvl 42 ish THF near Beaudeaux before the MPK patch. So I go in pick one close to the zone and try to steal the soup then zone. Well this other guy was there fighting stuff and I guess he got in trouble. So I see him zone out and he doesn't say anything to me. So I zone in to try and steal again and I swear every Quad in the zone is at the Zone point, so of course I'm insta killed, and the guy doesn't even attempt to give a sorry or try to get me a raise. Would have been cool with it if I'd just gotten a [Danger] say or /tell, then it'd have been my fault for going back in there.

Okay I got a great one. This happened about a week ago. I teamed up with some friends and we were heading out to get my last white mage feet seals when this dnc/war comes from the flux and forgets to put up spectral jig. We watched as he aggro'd 8 bombs and offered to pull them off him and only once his hp hit 10% did he shout help me but never accepted the party invite. We kept healing him but after the 8 were killed he still wouldn't use the jig. We asked him why he didn't use it. His answer and I quote "What the hell is that?"

So when I first started like 6-7 years ago, I had no idea how to open doors for my first few days. I have no idea *why* I was so baffled by them, maybe i didn't understand targetting or something. Also I distinctly remember being in the goldsmithing guild in bastok trying to craft for some reason and this guy asked me, "Hey do you have a LS?" and for some reason I thought he was offering me a Light Crystal to craft with, and because Light crystals were 'Ooooh special can't find them around bastok' I eagerly said yes. You can imagine my surprise but it was because of that linkshell's mercy that I was able to learn a lot haha.
I gotta say this thread is both hillarious and terrifying. My boyfriend just recently started playing and I usually keep a close eye on him and level/do quests with him but I fear for the day when he decides to do something on his own and he'll get a group with some jackwagon screeching "OMG ur level XX how do you not know to do this thing that hasn't come up your brief stint of playing yet but I expect everybody to automatically know it because being over level 50 means you know everything about this game!!!11 /kick" Not that he makes mistakes a lot and I've been pretty good about teaching him, just you never know whats gunna happen.

Yeah, I know plenty of high levels that are pretty chill and have good fun with them - I love the level headed folk on my server. I know the idiots are in the minorities but I've never bothered to check their level range, so perhaps you are right they're the mid level range and even what somebody described to me yesterday as 'high level noobs', as much as I hate the word 'noob', it was a fair description for the group of people who burn their jobs with little to no idea what they're doing with them, whilst I don't think burning a job necessarily makes people bad players, but I can see that people may assume that because levelling is easy, the rest of the game is easy and at times get cocky about it (in the minority though), but of course, it's only easy when you know what you're doing.

I suppose to an extent, fair enough, if you can't get somebody to learn (and perhaps I should avoid too many generalisations), then it's not worth the effort and perhaps going as far as kicking them will be enough of a slap on the face to say, "perhaps you should listen", depending on the size of their ego of course, I encounter people in RL with egos so huge that anything you say will reinforce how awesome they think they are so it's not unlikely some of these people playing MMORPGs too. But I find sometimes that when somebody does something wrong or they don't know something they perhaps should then there people in the 'elitist' group (I use 'elitist' not because they're superior players, most of the time they're not, but because it appears they have an elitist attitude - it's the best word I can use to describe them, unless somebody has a better word) call these people noobs, berate them and maybe even kick them without giving them anything all that constructive. Perhaps a minority again, but I find these people ridiculous and funny in my own sadistic sort of way, my only other option is to ignore them, which some argue is best, but I enjoy laughter enough to find them funny without even the need to feed them - though I was tempted by the fail troll who wanted us to open a banishing gate for him.
Anyway I'll be patient enough to reason with somebody so I can offer them advice, not to instruct them how to play their job, but help them understand what's useful about it and why people invite them to parties and if they're invited for the reason, ask that they do it. I can understand some people can be frustrating and not all listen straight away (I have seen some folk go on the defensive and usually find I can deflect that), but I'd be lying if I didn't say I've found people frustrating in the game, particularly when they don't read the chat box (and attack the mob you told them not to), but when I get around to talking to them, a lot of the time, people will listen and learn from their mistakes - sure it took a death for a person to learn that if I'm helping them, I am a better sleep nuker than a heal nuker (as per the instruction: "please don't attack, I can sleep them"), but they learn. Perhaps my experience differs from other peoples, who knows?
As for people who say a job sucks because of gear swaps, I've not encountered it, but I can see how lack of gear swap can make some jobs look crap, I think if anybody played my COR they'd probably hate the job because it's unloved at the moment and is not worthy for anything 75+.

This is extremely difficult to read ; ;
Edit: Also gear swapping isn't for "ego stroking" (I think you mean epeen stroking?), it's for those who are trying to be the best they can be. Perform to the max. I'm sorry that my RDM has different sets to include Fast Cast, Cure Potency, Enfeebling, Nuking, and Idling. I'm sorry that I don't want to weaponskill in haste gear, and refuse to melee in slow gear as DRK. I also apologize that I choose to macro in waltz potency for my DNC. This makes me an "ego stroker" doesn't it?

Pretty much using my boston accent when I type. I was not here when that added that type of target. But even still I never liked gear swaping. Or have it be forced on me. I play just fine if not better then those who do gear swap. I just did not like reading the comments being made that a person is a noob for not gear swaping. Those are the types of egos that really ruin the mmo experience.
Also just in case you have any more issues reading. I was more making a reference that when you blink no matter the type of macro targeting you do. It can un-target you if you blink just as the person is casting. I had this happen as a lolrdm healer. As well as whm and dnc. So yes it does make it hard if you gear swap at the wrong time.

Still no excuss for not doing research as its mention in every how to play <insert mage job> on every forum beside this one(as this one doesn't have stickies and not used for that). Wiki has it in how to make macros. BG, killing ifrit Alla all have guides that go into great detail on it.
Getting the extra HP from cure pot gear can be the differeance between two cures to top off or just one. Idle sts can produce more MP to prevent having to rest.
Swaping in to a MDB set as a mob is warming up a high tier ga can mean living while keeping hate and not killing you DPS. Skill in this game is knowing when to swap into and out of gear and what
I would say party planning and strat planning (even if its just right off wiki info) and explaining the strat is what needs the most skill in the game.

They did for me unless they changed it. I always marco'ed my cure macros to do <stpc>. Actualy I do know what I'm talking about been on this game from ps2 launch mostly played rdm. I do not make stuff of when I type. Trust me. I may be wrong at times, but I would never flat out lie. Here is the thing I haven't played this game since they first added abyssea. A lot has changed and I didn't see all the details. But for when I played blinking from g4ear swap did detarget the person. If it got changed thenj gear because it was a pain to work around it.

Skill in this game is knowing when to swap into and out of gear and what
I would say party planning and strat planning (even if its just right off wiki info) and explaining the strat is what needs the most skill in the game.
sorry but I play just fine w/o looking that crap up. If you wanna gear swap that is your buiness. Leave others to theirs. I do not play into the elitist tatics.

Gear swaping may not make you "good" but like I said, it really enhances your performance. No matter how "good" of a player you are, you can't cure for 50% more than usual just from being "good".
It's not about the "ego", it's about performing the best you can and pushing your party forward. Or at least it is for me.

if you need to research in order to play a game meant for fun. What does that say about you. I'm good w/o it. My skills were better for it as well. elitist fear failur or get angry instead of learning from it naturally. I lost count how many times a lol"goo player" died cuz they thought it would be cool to spike dmg when tank just provoked at the start of the fight. Then die and rage quit.
It's called being respectful of other people's time and providing your best effort.
<stal> Does not untarget when someone blinks. It does not need numbers and can cover anyone in the alliance. People need to learn how to go into game and test something out before they come here and spew garbage to which they have no bloody clue about.
Rosina you're entitled to your opinions just like we're entitled to think they're utter garbage. That's our opinion of your opinions and you can't do anything about it so get over it. Those who fear failur do not learn. if you 100% spells you cast spells less often, and unless your capped you tend to have lower skill levels. personally speaking. Gear swaps and knowing when to is what allowed people to 6 man HNMs long before abyssea, were just good player took whole alliances to kill the same mob.
The whole it "didn't work for me" is not true, my macros been working just fine for 5 years sure other people's macros workng well too you did something wrong. Players that refused to make the most out of thier jobs are the ones that were left to body chunk sky, dyna and limbus in shout pick up LSes.

That is the one thing wrong with the ffxi community. People think they need to be epic to be considered a good player. Good players know what a game is, and what fun is. They are open minded and play win or lose. They fully understand that there is no such thing as wasting time on an mmo, since you waste time playing one. Oh and yes I did try gear swaping and I thought it was lame gear don;t make the player skill does. It isn;t how hard you hit. It is in how well timed you are to work as a team gear swaping is for ego stroking. It just wastes space needlessy. Again just my opinions on it. Didn;t want my harsh opinions? Then don't be a noob and hate on other who chpoose not to gear swap. simple :)
gear swap for "ego stroking"?
gear swap is to make fights easier >.>
example:
i was duoing carabosse with a friend alot.
he was whm had cure potency set & enfeebling magic set.
examples:
he could get paralyze up all the time, carabosse muted me and i had shadows down, survived tornado II because it was paralyzed and this interrupted the spell, when a strong spell that didn't oneshot me hit me he could cure me to full hp pretty quick thx to cure potency set swap.
then he sold the whm gear (see this as full time use of cure potency set) because he didn't want to play the job mainly anymore.
we did carabosse again, he didn't get paralyze up anymore, this ended with mute + shadows down and the tornado II did oneshot me :x
another example for usefull gear swaps:
byakko whm + thf duo
thf needs gear swap there to max out ws dmg to make it possible to kill it before the whm runs out of mp.
a couple melee hits,tp-move, banishga-iii can eat the whm's mp pretty quick, that's why u want to gear swap to kill it fast.
now u see the point in gear swap? it can be the difference between win and fail
Edit: do u still need to target the person before <stal> works?

We're not arguing about what constitutes a "good gamer". We're talking about what constitutes an "efficient gamer" in FFXI. Who says we don't know how to have fun and play this game in that manner? We do. We just do it efficiently. You, however, choose to be a mediocre player, and pretend everyone else is just a bad gamer, because they don't want to play at a low level like yours. A person that may use gear swaps still needs team co-operation -- since when is gear so life-changing that it completely annulls the need for communication between players?
Quite frankly, you're just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point -- just admit fault.

Again, you were the first to "fling an insult". I don't really take you seriously -- in fact, I consider all of your opinions pretty derpy, honestly. I'm actually somewhat ashamed a player of your level exists, and claims to be better than the rest.
Regardless, you do not drum up a debate by shutting down opinions of others, or, as I said earlier, calling them dumb, stupid, etc. You did not debate, you simply slandered other people's views.
Here's a /facepalm moment:

So I expect other people to preform at at thier best so we have fun and not waste time by having to keep fighting the mob over and over hoping we can win this time. Yet they refuse to see how silly they are or childish. effeincy =/= fun or being good. Just because a person swaps gear don;t make them good or better then those who do not swap gear. And that was the point I was trying to make. It isn't wise to insult a person for not gear swaping. It is strictly player choice. And if you think I'm bad just for having this opinion, that just proves the childish point. No one here seen me play. So how can you say I'm a medicore player just for not buying into gear swaing. I never mentioned anyone being better than any other person. I never mentioned looking down at you.
For like.. the third time, I pointed out pretty much every fallacy you type out. It's ridiculous how hypocritical you are lmao.
You say looking down on people is bad, yet you've been calling down on anyone that uses gear swaps because apparently they are "inferior to you". You used your 2hr on MNK, with shadows? Wow, it's so hard to kill ONE fly that way.
God forbid any under-geared MNK gets kills with his 2hr and shadows to protect them. Your examples are so full of holes, I swear. Keep trying, seriously. I just dare you to give me a convincing argument that doesn't:
a) tell me to grow up
b) insult me
c) say I'm being "one sided"
d) make up "facts" [e.g; gear swaps have been in this game forever, not for "2.5 years or so"]
e) try to change the topic over onto one single person's personality or play style, instead of the topic at hand.
Go on, I wanna see this.
