@ buffy I have a learning disability and at times It is hard for me to see every error. But i can't say more or it would look like I'm playing victem. If the ps3 had a spell checker that would help me out tons.

To me and my group fun = getting stuff done efficiently. We are all pretty casual players, so the time we spend on game has to be efficient. I'm not going to log onto the game and waste a popset for Sobek because I was too lazy to get out my HP/evasion set out for DNC. Wasting that set we worked on the day before wouldn't be fun.

Does this mean we are elitist, because we are trying our best as a small team to casually get us all Empyrean weapons? And to "try our best" also means to gear properly for what we are up against.

here is the thing, end game doesn't appeal to me because of the poor attitudes people had. Oh the stuff I tanked @ 7/mnk/dnc was the avatars. Also I out lasted a pld as a dnc/war on an aggro zeegraficowmel (trying to lighten the mood as an appology) befire the dnc updates. this was @ 30. And the h-effer kept doing that OMGNOTAGAINWTF does. (i forgot what it was called so put that for s and gs) again in sub par gear. and 1 dinky dagger. The fact I did outlast a pld on a omgwtf fail sience made that thiggy as a dnc/war is still a shocker the pld tanked it down till it was 50% then died the wtfisthatjcomawd healed itself to full I voked it with both voke and my loldnc voke, and just kept myself cured.

i'm not that bad of a person I just dislike the assumptions yall have on effeciency. I've done alot if stuff in poor gear. Just mostly timed my skills well. I also take alot of pride in my jobs to make sure my skills and timing are at peek. Not everyone wants or can get tones of gear. To say other wise isn't very cool. Never assume anything.

I have a feeling though, that with out correct gear (Cure Potency on healers says hi, while hMP sets or Refresh sets outside Abyssea also wish to say hi, or also having a good Stoneskin set says hi) you'd be doing a great job.

2. "I play to have fun blah blah blah" - newsflash!: one person's idea of fun might not be identical to another person's idea of fun.

A lot of players' idea of fun is optimizing their performance, being as efficient as they can be at their chosen job. Gear swaps will enhance, most of the time even greatly enhance said performance. It's not about "taking the game too seriously" - since when is wanting to perform well the same as taking it (whatever "it" might be) too seriously?

Personally, I find it very satisfying to CureVI someone for 1650+ hp (in Abyssea, obviously). I also find it very satisfying knowing I have capped gear haste, and I love seeing those big ws and nuke numbers. I really enjoy doing stuff in game with my friends, whom I know I can trust to be efficient and good at their chosen jobs.

3. For the love of god, giving us an example of how "good" you are not using gearswaps, by telling us how you killed an exp mob as mnk/nin using your 2hr - that's just plain ridiculous.

4. You volunteered the information about your chosen playstyle. And it's an inferior playstyle when it comes to performance and efficiency. Don't get all huffy and try to defend that inferior playstyle when you're being called out on it. Play how you like. Just as the rest of us, who use gearswaps, play how we like.

was in a party on my mnk in CN, exorays kept agroing us and killing us, we where about to call it quits when our pt ldr(brd)
said "we can do it we just got to belive" next fight we got our asses kicked and she d/c's her self, what i learned that day was
just because u belive do something will not protect u from 2 crit hits for 500 and a and a dark spore attack for 1k dmg.

I said the DIFFERENCE was 3k. That means the DIFFERENCE between a wrongly geared (Not WS SET) WAR using Ukko's was 3k, so 3k damage compared to 6k damage.

Seriously, there's a huge problem if you WS in AF3+2 body on WAR, or even AF3+2 hands inside abyssea. There's also a huge problem if you TP in AF3+2 head on WAR, or hands if you're not capping haste.

The difference between you NOT gear swapping and me gear swapping is the difference between a WIN and a LOSS in MANY situations. I can't count how many times PDT set on WAR has lead to a quick and easy win, specially in things outside of Abyssea where you can't count on Reraise over and over and over and over.

No, they originally /facepalmed because a healer walked in and didn't know what <stpc>/stal was.. Even if you don't gearswap, all healers should use it anyways. You never know when you will encounter a player who does. And no one is forcing you to gear swap. They're telling you the advantages of gear swapping and how you remain ignorant of them.

Goals.

I enjoy setting a goal and going out and obtaining it. It's even more enjoyable when that goal makes my performance better, and allows me to help out my team even more.

Party wipes happen because some mobs can be a royal pain in the ass like Apadamak. However logic dictates that a player with skill and the ability to macro swap gearsets has a higher chance of success vs someone with skill and no gear swaps. This is an undenyable truth. You could be your server's lance for all I care and if i saw you never swapping gear for cures, enfeebling, Tp or WS gearsets, I'd mock you from here to sunday.

There is no assumpution to be made. Gearing yourself properly to get a mob dead with as little stress is possible is what you and every player should strive to meet.

So have I but even when I was leveling a job from 1 to 90 that didn't involve abyessa if there was a piece of gear out there that allowed me to get mp faster, do more damage or hit mobs faster for TP gain then you bet your ass I worked to get it.

I feel like when I play BLU, all I do is gear swap... I don't see how it would even be possible to successfully play the job without gear swaps, as most physical spells SUCK without proper changes. Not to mention 700CW compared to 5k...

here is the thing, end game doesn't appeal to me because of the poor attitudes people had. Oh the stuff I tanked @ 7/mnk/dnc was the avatars. Also I out lasted a pld as a dnc/war on an aggro zeegraficowmel (trying to lighten the mood as an appology) befire the dnc updates. this was @ 30. And the h-effer kept doing that OMGNOTAGAINWTF does. (i forgot what it was called so put that for s and gs) again in sub par gear. and 1 dinky dagger. The fact I did outlast a pld on a omgwtf fail sience made that thiggy as a dnc/war is still a shocker the pld tanked it down till it was 50% then died the wtfisthatjcomawd healed itself to full I voked it with both voke and my loldnc voke, and just kept myself cured.

If you are trying to solo Cactrot rapido on rdm you can't give him tp or he will probably 10k needle your ass, and actually he got enought Tp for that by hitting me.

the most common is getting into the field after a job change, trying to fight and whammo, wrong macro set! This was alot worse in the older days with so few macros...

also common, I'm so used to playing jobs with an innate stealth, or else through my subjob that I rarely carry oils/powders anymore. But just recently I started leveling ranger/nin or occasionally /dnc, only to forget I won't have full stealth until 50 with either sub, and while I have oils, powders, mats and lvl 60 alch, they are not in satchel/sack.

Several times i've maw warpped to the wrong zone

go to pull on thief, forgot to pack a range weapon (luckily I always keep in sack)

Let me get this straight, you have a learning disability but, the rest of us, who have learned better are the ones with the problem? Also, gear swapping has been around forever. Just because all you did was exp parties, where most people didn't bother to waste their money on multiple gear sets (cause that would be completely idiotic, even more-so these days) when leveling up (inevitably obsoleting those gear sets and having to buy more gear, just to level up) doesn't mean it didn't exist and was main stream once you hit cap.

Also, lol @ using the ps3 as your primary (only?) means to access the internet.

Efficiency* isn't an assumption. The difference between my ninja before I had adequately geared it and now are obvious, in every aspect. Also, I'm sure all the things you've done in poor gear, I've done better in better gear. This isn't even about the individual pieces of gear or flaunting accomplishments, it's about making a mockery of those who refuse to even attempt to get better, for whatever reason.

Using your "learning disabilities" as a crux to excuse yourself, while you try to elevate/fool yourself into thinking that you are anywhere near as good a player who has taken the time to learn such things, is truly worthy of the /facepalming this thread was created for.


The difference between you NOT gear swapping and me gear swapping is the difference between a WIN and a LOSS in MANY situations. I can't count how many times PDT set on WAR has lead to a quick and easy win, specially in things outside of Abyssea where you can't count on Reraise over and over and over and over.

nope gear swaping got big after wing was out. I've been playing since ps2 days. And the first sightings I seen on my server was aroung whitegate areas. Then it got bigger when wings was out. Now it is enforced to no end. And giving people poor attitudes like the onews mocking me,

Yet they refuse to see how silly they are or childish. effeincy =/= fun or being good. Just because a person swaps gear don;t make them good or better then those who do not swap gear. And that was the point I was trying to make. It isn't wise to insult a person for not gear swaping. It is strictly player choice. And if you think I'm bad just for having this opinion, that just proves the childish point. No one here seen me play. So how can you say I'm a medicore player just for not buying into gear swaing. You simply can't. But yes you guys have bad attitudes when it comes to this game. And to me that is taking it to seriously.

The reason it became so popular at this time was because before Wings, haste gear was pretty lacking to the majority of players. It occured mostly with mages using the elemental staves. Swapping on Light staff+Nobles for Curing spells, Errant gear+Dark staff for /healing, +skill gear and respective staff for enfeebling spells. The only reason most people leveling didn't swap gear because there wasn't a lot to switch between at least until 75 and you've accumulated a few pieces (Hecatomb for example) that was far better to WS in then it was to TP in because of the massive amounts of slow on it.

For some jobs, they'd only be in the macro, but never on the player for more than it took to use that job ability. Examples that I can quickly think of are MNK Body for Chakra, feet for Dodge, Head for Focus.

Especially today with all the gear that "Augments "Job Ability"" or "Enhances affect +20%" you need to use gear swapping to optimize your abilities. As I said above about mages, think about BLM:

If you played a BLM, what staff do you use to cast all of your spells? If you give one single answer, you're wrong. The low-quality elemental staff offers a 10% bonus in damage whereas the high quality does 15%. So if you're doing a 1000 damage Blizzard V, with the Ice Staff it's now 1100. With the HQ it's 1150. After two spells it's a 200-300 damage difference. After 9 spells, you're at 900-1350 damage additional damage. That's ONE free Blizzard V in damage that all you did was swap to the appropriate staff. Now imagine doing that with the rest of your gear.

tl;dr: Gear swapping has been around since launch (At least since US PS2 launch). We all know it did because most of us did it. There are far too many reasons why someone died after a large burst in damage. It could have ranged from sucky tank to sucky healer to, yes, even the sucky DD.

My favorite noob moment that I remember was waaaaaaay back when I had initially started my current char, a whm main taru. I was like lvl 60ish and was going to sandy for some reason which isn't important to the story, but the point is I was in La Theine, at the zoneline to Ronfaure when a lsmate asked me to raise someone that needed it in the same zone and I was the only one with raise...so being the whm I am, it's my duty to raise ppl that need it, so I turned my choco around, went all the way back to the person, who was a little south of the crag, near where the shrooms are and got off my choco and raised her.

As soon as s/he got up s/he immediately /s yelled at me where's my sneak and invis?!?!?!?! then ran off towards the crag.../facepalm

I threatened to throw him out and just get another white mage if he didn't cut his attitude. He kept bitching, so I dropped him, and five minutes later a white mage put their flag up!

Just remembered a couple other noob moment favorites of mine....my first maat fight years and years ago was on whm, easiest maat fight ever....except that ppl made me so nervous about remembering every little thing about it and pointing out that regen was the most important spell to use, so in the battle, I buffed up then started the fight, realized I forgot regen so I tried casting it and kept getting interrupted...I tried so hard to cast it that I actually forgot to cure myself till I was in the red lol I did try and get off a cure V while he was doing asuran fists though!

Noob moment number 2 was a pt a long time ago in Ro Maeve, I think we were there to get the nm for black halo for me, and I was on whm. I have no idea where I was mentally, but the fact that everything there is magic aggro completely slipped my mind as I stood near two dolls and like three-ish weapons to cure my pt that was fighting one weapon at a time lol...it didn't end well :/

And noob moment number 3 was only like 3 years ago, I was in saruta, level and job aren't important to the story, what is important though is that I play a taru....I was screwin' around with first person, god only knows why, and I ended up in some tall grass...I got completely lost and had to teleport because I couldn't see over the grass to find my location and I was so embarrassed/laughing at myself that I forgot I have a map of the place, so yea....my height actually got me lost in Saruta lol

I subbed war on whm til 22 then nin and i just tanked with a hammer and shield did really good besides my emnity merrits kept getting me hate lolz. its unheard of and freaked out everyone i was in party with to see a combat whm in party with maxed eva, shield, & parry whm is actually pretty good at it with the right gear. close to the end of my lvling i pulled, tanked, DD and healed the party maybe i should of just soloed idk.

anyways several noobs changed to whm and tried to do te same thing and couldnt i didnt tell them i was a pld before and all my combat skills were capped they found out the hard way that its a must

I had a noob moment just last night. Took a couple friends into dynamis-xarc along with dualboxing my bf's whm. I cant dualbox to save my life so I just brought him in as /sch for aoe snk/invis and buffs. I sent the others off to the JA alley which was actually free for once while I ran around the zone getting the TEs. Just as I engage the eye I notice my drk and thf friend were..well, dying. So I start trying to cure them frantically on the whm,
1. noob moment was forgetting to use sublimation until I'd got aggro on him and was in red hp so fat lot of good that did and just ran out of mp.
2. forgetting to pay attention back on my own character and dying to the eye.
3. was then panicking wanting to get back and help them, reraising right after the eye turns around forgetting they aggro hearing as well.
At least then my bf got home so he logged on himself to save us, though I did have to sit there dead on the ground for 10 mins as team after team after team came by to get the TE, and instead of any of them thinking to toss me a raise most of them /laughed or /stared. Hurt my pride ):

I joined an AB Altepa party recently, hoping to get some TE's while we killed dolls for exp -- terrible idea. Wasted 40 mins of my time, because I was doing all the killing and because the BLMs couldn't even land sleepga. Oh, and all the melees were hitting for 20~100 per hit at best, with WS's at ~800. I was in a Uleguerand pt a few weeks ago as blm and there was two blus in there that kept waking all the bluffalos I had sleeping up with wait for it.....SANDSPIN! and Cursed Sphere....and Bomb Toss.....a friend of mine and I called 'em on it and they continued, meanwhile they were lvl 90, and as a blm/rdm I could solo the bluffalo better than they could >_>

Side noob moment in the same pt, we had a dnc/sam that refused to pull because he didn't have shadows...I was able to pull dolls in altepa 3+ at a time just fine as dnc/sam without a ranged weapon lol

I hate that too, but you have to admit, if it's a SCH or BLM who slept it after using Bliz V or something, then the odds of any hate control ability taking hate are very low.

As a main Whm i have developed the theory that a high level Sam loses the JA Seigan becoz no Sam ever uses it! probably happens around level 50ish

I've seen 35 damage dragon kicks so saying the gimpest of gimps can pull hate may not be entirely accurate (as long as you've done something other than just sleep and even then...). I've pulled hate from autoattacking while weakened + slowed in some parties.

I guess it depends what else you do. As RDM/BLM sleeper, I'll generally feel obliged to toss a cure onto the puller after they're slept too. And sometimes I'll have been the puller, so I will have cast either break, gravity, slow or para 2 on each mob I pulled too. You usually find it's level 75ish players who do it, so they don't hit for much. Your average 90 melee should hit for 200-300+ in one attack round, pulling hate satisfactorily.

Before I begin, I was originally Yamimarik on seraph lvl 75BLU,RDM,SMN,DNC and my account got hacked, got it back last year around September of 2010 and logged onto it to find "Yamimarik" had been deleted, I cried nonetheless. So needless to say SE said "I'm sorry unless you can provide us with the exact time of which you're character was deleted we can not roll back your account to retrieve said character have a nice day!" so basically yeah I had to restart if I wanted to play again.

So coming back after a year break and having to restart I decided to lvl BLU first instead of RDM(ended up not lvling RDM anyways blargh!) and to my surprise I actually got decent pts between lvls 1-75 W/O Abyssea interfering in my life(Though it was a god sent when I did finally get to go in!) so my skills and such stayed capped for the most part, any who I was in a lvl 60+ Colibri camp/pt in Bhaflau thickets we had a decent set up for such camp PLD,Me(Blu)RNG/SAM,WAR/SAM(Polearm),DRG,RDM/WHM with a lvl 85 WHM PL(85 was the cap at the time of this party.) so the SAM/RNG(Nebulae for those on Bismarck) kept dying, he would constantly Meditate WS, Hasso WS, Food, WS anything to get hate and not getting behind the PLD or running out of range of cures WS, then die die die die die and go on a HUGE RANT how the PLD was not doing his Job!(PLD being my boyfriend at the time, he was getting really upset because he was afraid he sucked at PLD and I assured him that wasn't the problem in this party...) So I go on to tell the RNG(I'm party leader of this party) That if he wants to stop dying, stop being such a nub and just let the PL or RDM HEAL YOU and stop running the freaking opposite direction(I said it nice the 1st two times, 3rd time I got nasty...) So I did try to be polite, but manners were getting me no where, so finally after the DRG pulled(for god knows why he actually liked pulling so I let him since jerpjerpjerp RNG/SAM was QQ he would die if he pulled, RNG isn't a pulling job, leave him alone!) RNG WS, 2hrd, popped TP wing, WS, Meditated WS, died, all BEFORE my poor BF(the PLD) could even get w/ in range to voke,cure,flash etc.) before I could cure or anything, b4 the PL or RDM could do anything, and the DRG was like (Where did my mob go I was pul... oh the lulzy RNG died, I see now.) So he was all kinds of upset and flustered, screaming at me for not using some kind of useless BLU cure, or the PLD being garbage how his NIN and PLD could tank circles around him, yelling at the PL who just came to help us, yelling at the DRG and the WAR for sucking as DD and nv getting hate over him(he left the RDM alone surprisingly enough lol...) So the DRG switched to RDM to come help PL since the WHM PL left and we got 2 more DD's I was busy /telling the nub RNG b/c he started /telling my BF saying he should quit PLD, quit the game and give up on life and blah blah blah, so of course I got defensive, but started out polite for a quick and hopefully peaceful resolve, he said he was sorry and he didn't mean to lose his temper at anyone, so he left, came back and sent me a tell saying "I'm on BLM/WHM now I'll help PL." the pt didn't like the idea of him being there anymore because he was rude to the entire PT so I asked him kindly to leave, we already had a PL and it was ok ty anyways, he got SO mad at me and started healing us anyways, well we all put up /blockaid for a few pulls except my poor BF was still somewhat upset and didn't see the tell I sent him saying so, so he kept healing my BF until he pulled hate on one of our mobs, ran all the way to where the trolls are in Bhaflau and retraced himself before laughing in /sh "HAHAHAHA nubs! Thats what you get for letting me die on my epic RNG!" In conclusion boys and girls RNG/SAM awesome job for Colibiri yeah! :D Nebulae on RNG/SAM going mental on the entire party for god knows what purposes, OMG a headache and a lol at the end of the day. Modern day nubs, have to love them :D <3

What a terrible RNG, at that level you should be nearly 1-shotting colibris, I was doing about 60-80% of the Colibri's HP/per Sidewinder.

I was a noob, so I tried healing myself while main tanking; I knew it was a terrible idea, I just wanted xp. So, I timed my spells and they were going off, but not enough to keep me alive. Leader yelled at me for dying, but kept yelling at the whm to not heal me either.

The one moment I have never forgotten was years ago when I was in this alliance for either paper, tav bell, or coffer key drops. Not sure on the reason anymore. Most of us were under leveled with a few 75 babysitters so it was probably paper. But there was this one PLD who I'm pretty sure was just a kid at the time and still plays to this day. He said something that will go down in my personal history as possibly the #1 Cpt. Obvious comment of all time: "Heal me or I will die" ............................

The kid didn't like riding yellow HP whatsoever. I want to remember people let him die a few times after to shut him up, kind of like proving a point that he hadn't died yet to the point of his comment or whatever but I can't be sure on that. It's been like 6 years since. But that comment will stick with me forever. The day I'm on my death bed I will make it a point to tell the doctor to heal me or I will die, just so I can see his 'no shit' reaction.

Another time that I probably won't ever forget fully but I will only remember it when threads like this pop up, my second day of playing I came across a dead body. I was willing to help so I said wait there I'll go get a reraise scroll. "That sounds like it'll do the trick. Not real sure what the re- means but I know what the raise does." I'm sure the rest of that story will be easy to piece together. I did a RL facepalm telling myself, "NOW I know what RE-raise is..."
