View Full Version : Maybe time for SE to end the story of FFXI

Hear me out. I am not saying that SE should shut down the game.
Since its release; if there is one thing FFXI has done better than any other MMO it has been the story. As a main entry in the Final Fantasy series I feel that FFXI deserves a definitive end to the story (maybe the long dormant "Last Verse" could come out of the woodwork). Other MMOs don't have endings, but if there would be one MMO that deserves an ending it would be FFXI.
Maybe it's time for the designers of FFXI to start shifting their story towards an end game. A final hyped year long conclusion to FFXI is just what this game needs to go out strong. The end game (and additions to end-game) can last for as long as players keep playing. However, I truly feel it is time to bring the story to a close. FFXI has lasted for 11 (soon to be 12) great years. With FFXIV going strong and players leaving in masses, a final story line conclusion to the game is what FFXI needs. To do this right, SE should announce (way ahead) the start of the final year-long conclusion storyline and list the requirements to participate (missions completed, item level gear required, quests completed, etc.).
Thoughts on this? I realize there are many who want this game to go on forever. I completely sympathize if what I am proposing is the direct opposite of what you want. I just feel that the timing is right.

I think they should focus on the broken mechanics of the game before wasting time on storylines.

I think they already are.
Mother world tree is dead and the child one is dieing, and once that one dies, goodbye Vana'diel
And not only fix the MANY current problems but give a damned answer on the vaporware that got moved to XIV or as a statue. (Cait Sith, Atmos, new 1hrs, the endless "we never promised you this." and such as and so on) and really the NPC popularity contest should give you a clue, Shanttoto gets to go to Erozia in all her glory-taru, and can even keep her as a minion.

But wouldn't you prefer more monstrosity? :)

I don't think the story line should come to an end at all, but it would be nice if the story lines were somehow more interconnected, but fix the damned game first

But we've had the full storyline and conclusion for FFXI?
FFXI we beat the Shadowlord, which was a ploy by the Zilart to open Paradise, meanwhile their devices were gonna bring in Promathia and end the world. We stopped em cold and got Lion (after the end of the world let's get frisky) back. Then we stopped xander and Odin from recleaving the middle-east. In side stories we righted the nations, defeated the primeval crystal, got our moogles laid, and learned to hate shantoto (more). We defeated our alternate timeline in WotG, babysat, kicked ass with the mouseketeers, found out that nanaa migho's mom just gave it up for any manthra. We then went and saved a timeline of FFXIV scrubs that lost to Promathia. Repelled multiple dimensional invasions and now we're doing the spreading smallpox to the leafkin thing.
I guess my point is the adventures all have endings so far and FFXI ended when we shoved a sword up the Shadowlord's arse.

They can't end it before they find a way to shamelessly shoehorn Lightning into Vana'diel!

I can't say I want it to end, but I'd definitely like to see another game (not MMO) set in Vana'diel.

The last cutscene in the game I'd like to see (If you've finished the WotG story arc), is you're attending the wedding of Prince Trion and Curilia. As you look around the reception you see all the famous NPC's in the game at the reception, all except for one..... after you make pleasant with a few of your NPC friends at the reception (depends on which storylines you finished), you start to leave, and all of a sudden you see her with a big smile on her face as she holds out her hand to you. You take it and as you walk away you both disappear from Vana'diel ....
(In a nutshell Lillisette comes and takes you away to help her in her alternate timeline)

Personally, Id prefer that the game regain some of its value. Maybe if SE, who claim to have superior technology, would be bright enough to write a script that prevents botting and tolerate RMTing would raise the value of the game and would persuade people to get off their butts to farm things more! It was the people that had to use bots to RMT than the people that legitimately played the game and RMTed that, quote on quote, ruined the game. SE outlaws RMTing and the games value went from $100 down to $0 and they wondered why! O.o Thats why EQ and WoW have flourished while FFXI hit the toilet so fast!
