After a friend asked where I got my shinny trees, I looked up the date of the Celestial Nights for her on FFXIclopedia. I later looked over past events and saw the original event wasn't a parade, but a poetry contest.
Bring that back! You are doing so many things to get players involved, it would be perfect contest to liven the event up.
Also maybe add some new games, like decorating a bamboo stalk until it bends at a perfect angle but not snap. Or make it a duo game. A male and female par need to weight thier stalks until they touch perfectly.
Don't get me wrong the parade is fun, I'm not saying get rid of it. But the happy ending at the end obscures the fact it was actually a Romeo and Juliet. Everyone who has ever asked me why I like the event are shocked to hear the Princess died of a broken heart after her father locked her up, then he went to war and killed the Prince in revenge for his daughter's death.
