When I started playing ffxi 5 years ago I had no idea what I was doing. I ran a few quests, lvled my first job up to 20 solo and didnt really see what the big deal was about the game. It seemed way to big and way to difficult for lil ol me to go out do much. Then I got a pt invite, and another, and another. This changed the game drastically for me.
/sh <key> <person> <do you need it>....this is how so many people lvl these days after they spend a few hrs in quifim or the dunes burning as fast as they can to 30. Then after a single aby pt (if its good) they walk away lvl 90, put on their af3 gear and go out to solo or duo as they skill.
If it werent for pts when I was starting out 5 years ago, I would have ran around, done a few quests and prob quit the game. Instead I learned my jobs, kept it skilled and spend hrs lvling to 75. Did it suck, yes, it was painful back then for a thf or pup or blu to find a pt. But I did and along the way I made friend after friend after friend. The long hours I spend learning my jobs also allowed me to spend hrs chatting to ppl I otherwise never would have talked to. Got me ls after ls for dyna, for limbus, or just for being social. It made me want to log in each day not to boost in /sh about my 20 lvl 75 jobs and how powerful I am, but to meet with and talk to friends. Go on adventures and camp nm for real rewards. Camping stunk but at least u did it with friends and you could chat to pass the time. Now for someone just starting or for someone who is looking for ppl to run limbus or dyna with, its hard to find. Aby pt conversations are mostly limited to "Who is getting ruby light!?" and "DD please keep off the mages slept mobs!". And most people dont even watch their screens anymore so they dont even stop. Im guilty of it too, "Stop getting amber light, we get too much we get no feet drops!" lol
But really the small intimate pts really made this game enjoyable and I am sorry to see they may have died out. Esp sux for anyone new coming into the game. We do need some sort of restrictions to get us back to a community where we can get to know each other again by more then "Oh yeah hes the one who always /sh in pj for seals and key spots"
If we could find a balance it would be fantastic. Most people will say "if you want small intimate pts, make them instead of pushing your pt beliefs on us, noob" but thats easier said then done. when only 30 ppl out of 2000 are lfp and half of them will only take an aby burn you cant get a good pt together.
This is an MMO and the pt system allows us interaction, allows us to make and build friendships, which in turn makes the game more enjoyable overall. imo
