Just uploaded FFXI to my Lenovo Home PC (about a yr old).

When I try to open FFXI, right after the POL Update screen when the window expands and the game window opens, my whole screen starts flashing like crazy, and a POL Error message then pops up saying the following:

"Terminated as error occurred in FINAL FANTASY XI. Failed to initialize Direct3D. Please check that this computer has the required specifications to run FINAL FANTASY XI. (-1)"

These are my PC's specifications:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.1GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8040MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: None
User DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
DAC type: Internal
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_361617AA&REV_09
Display Memory: 1760 MB
Dedicated Memory: 128 MB
Shared Memory: 1632 MB
Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Anyone have any suggestions that don't involve me buying another PC or video card? Anyone ever seen this?

Thanks in advanced.

I get the same error, HP desktop I3, Windows 8. No clue, as I'm pretty computer illiterate as far as diagnosing and fixing real issues.

Think I figured it out, make sure in FFXI config you have the 'windowed mode' checked. It worked for me
