Clothcrafters have certainly gained a lot from being able to exclusively make Geomancer AF. I think it's time to make something else drop the thread and cloth to be fair to Geomancers who would like to complete their AF.
I don't blame crafters as they have the right to charge whatever they want for their services. So I think that part is justified. However, the only source of these two items is near 100 Clothcraft. That's not an common occurence, and finding someone who is just going to make it for you is not simple. Most crafters are trying to protect their interest in continuing to make more cloth and thread, which is understandable.
Comparison to Rune Fencer's crafted items.
Redoubtable Silk Thread (drops off Crawlers and Harvesting Points, no craft needed)
Corroded Ore (drops off worms in Cirdas Caverns and Mining Points)
Runeweave (bought with bayld)
The rest of it is commonplace crafting materials.
Looking from an item level perspective.
Geomancer AF is item level 109.
Yorcia Weald Skirmish is item level 113. Easier and cheaper to obtain.
Alternate suggestions for high level Clothcraft profit.
Since a lot of crafts are being able to use Delve Boss drops to make high level crafts. Add an item that clothcrafters can make with them. Examples based on that they are all weapon crafts so far.
Higher item level Dashavatara Sachet for SMN.
Item level grips.
I'm sure there are people who would disagree because it's a nice way to make a lot of gil and no one wants that taken away. However, not if it's replaced with more crafts that are profitable and desirable of Clothcraft 96+.
Currently it is not balanced to be honest. While some are ok with the price as gil comes by easier for them, I don't see why Geomancer cannot be equally as difficult to obtain as Rune Fencer. Rune Fencer is not as desirable right now in a party setting, but that doesn't justify a reason for more expensive Artifact Armor. That is a reason to fix Rune Fencer's desirability.
While the demand has fallen. The demand will remain expensive for a long time simply because Akaso Thread and Cloth can only be produced in one method. Once the demand is gone, there will simply be no reason for a Clothcrafter to continue making it.
