here's just a idea..... we all know there will be an up date soon, and they cant keep the servers up and running full time just yet... but why not during the time we are down and the blackouts permit it, why not just do the updates now?..... no one is on server and they have the time to do it, just get it done and over with? lets just say they have 12 hrs of power b4 a blackout.... our updates usualy last that long anyway, do it b4 they get the servers up full time?

hmm well it takes electricity may be the reason. I have thought about this too but realized it defeated the purpose of shutdown.

I don't think they are done programming and testing it yet. It wasn't even supposed to go live til mid april.

Thats probably true, insaniac. It would be nice to come back and have it all done wouldnt it, with no more downtime for awhile. Oh well at least we will be back on game and that is going to make a lot of us happy. :D

They wouldn't have been able to merge the servers either. Seeing as it went down unexpectedly not everyone could collect things from their delivery boxes, so it'd be lost.

So true. That would be a disaster.

If they tried to update now and had a Power Outage during the process, some of the files may get damaged probably, otherwise I think they would have tried to work on it. But even then, yeah, the request to conserve power > Updating a Games content.

As they said in one of their announcements: Public Transportation has been spotty at best. Some of their employees have been unable to even get to work.

They're not done with all the testing necessary to make the next major version update -- else they probably would've done so at the end of this "extended maintenance".

(Hence, the delay in the actual date of the update from "mid-April" to some undetermined point in May...)

I think what the OP meant was the situation that, once the game was assured to go up (these Power Outages could happen almost any time during the Spring, Summer, and beyond!!), they would do the version update.

Your question, answered about almost a week ago. Of course if you took the time to read anything instead of being lazy, you would have known this.

Not everyone sits on these forums all day.

Nor do I, but you can tend to read some of the actual posts from Square-Enix (OK, maybe not Tanaka's, but you get my point...). I think part of the annoyance is that, even after they posted it, we still get constant questions of it and have to wonder whether the askers are actually trolling us.
