1. Elites: They understand the game from the back of there hands, Willing to wait hrs till they get there party set ups. Can tell you all the mobs weaknesses. They like to get mad at people that make one wrong move. They rarely need to use a wiki site. Most will have amazing gaming skills also. They do not need a lot time to get stuff done, with there skills and gaming skills , but think everyone else are bad. Like to blacklist people all the time or hate people.
2. Hardcore: They understand the game and got above average gaming skills. Will mess up from time to time. Will have patience so the grinding ways on the games is usually not a problem and will do that better then the elites , can stay up for the 8 hrs game runs or the 24+ hrs runs. Most of the time can careless what people say, but will listen to the elite players or other hardcore players.
3.Normal: This is the person that understand some of the game , want to be better , willing to listen to the elite and the hardcore. and most of the time got game skills and will go to the hardcore or elite. Work and family start to slow them down on there games more then the Hardcore or the Elites.
4.Casual: Want it now, and fast . Can be unwilling to learn the game, use the old EA motto (if it in the game it in the game) . Many hate using websites to look up the info and look to there friends for help, and they can have slower gamer skills or mad gamer skills. Sometime there just new and want to to move up on the ladder. They will be very vocal in the games and sometimes on the gaming websites vocal. Since they care and do not care . It a two way street.

I can't define or label what I am but I can give you an idea.
I understand the game better than a lot, not all, and I am still learning so I never act like I'm better than anyone and always keep in mind that my point of view may never be the same as others.
I have patience, knowledge, consideration, understanding that not everyone is on the same level as me.
I put people first rather than items or material things.
I treat people with respect and never hold a grudge to those who disrespect me if the other person is willing to show me that I can get along with them.
I'm not afraid to admit I'm wrong nor am I ever afraid to apologize to anyone.
I spend a good portion of my time trying to help others but when I need to do stuff ill ask for help but always offer to do favors for those who have helped me. I even go out of my way to message that person throughout the game reminding them I am willing to help them anytime they need me.
Sometimes I do get frustrated when I see players who don't know how to play their job but rather than criticize and be mean putting them down or blisting them, I try to get to know the person and offer advice on how they can improve if I see they need it.
Have you done CoP yet? You know you can improve your WS damage if you get belt/gorget? If you need help let me know, i'm usually free most of the time lol.
I also tolerate a lot more than most people because i have patience.
If you disrespect me, I will respond to you with the same attitude. However I never curse anyone out or act like I'm in high school.
I'm mature and very open minded more than most people.
I can be stubborn at times when I know something works, and will stick to my belief if Its something I've done many times without issue.
I am compassionate to those who are struggling and is the first person to stand up and offer help especially to new players who have no gear, Gil or items.
Regardless if people think I'm a skilled player I am humble, never brag that "I am the best"
I always try to analyze other people's point of view and always give people multiple chances regardless if they insult me, treat me with disrespect and put me down.
I'll listen to those Most of the time unless if a person is giving poor advice.
If you use me, I'll hang with you until I see if you are really that selfish until I move on and find other people to spend my time with.
Not sure what catagory you would place me under.

I have two serious issues with this definition.
1. The thought that only casuals look up information on websites is ridiculous. BG uses their Wiki like a bible, and it includes a ton of calculations and formulas that no one short of Rainman would be able to reference from memory.
2. Casuals are less concerned with when they get it and more concerned with how they get it. As Farmville has shown, people don't have a problem waiting months for their strawberries to bloom as long as they can do it on their own and on their own schedule. Six months of farming 45 minutes a day to get a Sword of a Thousand Truths +1 is fine, for many casuals. Camping for three hours at 2:30AM with 35 linkshell members with a very specific job distribution... and then missing the pop... is not.

The most annoying thing is a "normal" or "casual" player that joins a top tier run like Foret and proceeds to ruin the run because they don't read up on the fight/mob/strat.
I'm 33 years old with a wife, kid and a 50+ hour work week. Nothing pisses me off more then a "normal/casual" wasting an hour of my free time.

I consider myself a casual player, because I don't want to waste hours of my life on a game that in several years will mean nothing. I mean look at yourselves, segregating the playerbase based solely on people's commitment. This makes me want to puke because not only are you discriminating, anyone who considers themselves an elite player will get a huge ego boost, and the people whom you defined as casual will feel nothing more than like pure shit. We don't call ourselves casual because we aren't 'as skilled' (Seriously if you're skilled in a game, you need to get over that whole high horse bull shit) we call ourselves casual BECAUSE loosed solely on the fact that we do not wish to waste HOURS UPON HOURS of precious time fighting a bee that may or may not yield anything of worth. I'm sorry but casual gamers do not have hours on end to devote to getting a pretty little item that'll make you more endgame acceptable.
Do not assume we don't know how to play this game either, among the BLU's on my server, I'm ahead of the curve in terms of wtf I'm doing with my job, and I deem myself casual even after being on ffxi since 2008.
Take this whole thing and shove it right up your ass, this is just an insult/slap to people's face.

Sounds like life in general to me.
Discrimination happens in all areas of life. The guy with 3 degrees driving a new BMW is judging you everytime you pull up next to him and you are judging him in return. Should you feel like "pure shit" because he busted his ass, chose to spend his time in a more productive manner and bought the big house and nice car? Well thats up to you. Playing this game and getting 10 relics is not much different. The pixels that make you and I feel good are as valuable as an $80k BMW in the grand scheme of things. As long as people have goals and aspirations there will be judgements. As long as their are judgements there will be discrimination and as long as their is discrimination their will be hierarchies formed.
You can either feel like "pure shit" or recognize that you don't see the value in putting in the effort to get the shiny things. All material things become worthless as some point, the servers get shut down, the BMW stops running.

Categorizing people is pointless. When you take more than a passing glance people rarely fit into neat little molds. I don't know anyone who truly fits any of these categories.

descrimination is still optional when you are vocal about it. you can still think that person is a PoS but that doesn't mean you have to treat them as such. Labelling does nothing but affirm a heirarchy. using such terms is acceptable as it helps gauge what others do, but having an absolute defininition to those labels is going over the edge.

And what am I.
I rarely need wiki, And I get random tells from people asking me how to do things even people not in my LS. Without mentor flag being up.
I come up with winning game plan for NM battles with any combo of jobs.
I personally don't care what anyone else thinks about how I play.
I personally don't tell anyone how to play. It's a game and don't care if killing a mob takes 1 min or 5. The goal is to win.
I often ask if anyone in the LS needs help with anything before I do anything for myself.
I am unwilling months of time to get something that will help me kill something 1 min faster. Also don't need to now as current Items in seekers well out dmg the pre seeker items till they are fixed.

Hey! You woke up the tiger. lol
Who are you, what are you? Exactly who you said you are. You are my friend. You have character. You are a wonderful person I love to death! You are not haughty, not know it all in your knowledge but so caring to grab other players and make them feel cared about.
Anyone that doesn't know this man is missing out, get to know him.
Who am I? Just a simple woman addicted to a game bigger than me struggling along to learn and do as much as I can, reaching out grabbing people who are struggling pulling them along with me. I don't follow, I don't lead. I just do whatever comes up the day I log on. I want the big things in the game but they are like a dangling carrot for me. I do the best I can with the brain I have and hope it's good enough.
I hope those way up there in the so called elite group don't forget where they came from when they were in the dunes getting their butts handed to them.
<3 Ultimas~missing you in the game!

Why would I feel like pure shit when it comes to someone with 10 relics? That's so much time wasted away in your life you'll never get back, I much rather prefer hunting old weapons and armor in content areas that Idon't have competition. At least there I can set goals for myself and I can achieve them -on my own-. Nothing is sweeter than the thought of "I did it" running through my head, such as soloing Bomb Queen on my BLU to get Avengers, or Vouivre for Gae Bolg. You may find me stupid for my train of thought on this game, but I'm paying money to do something I love to do. If the people who are casting judgment find me 'defective' then they need to step away from the computer, and ask themselves "Is there really a defect with someone wasting maybe an hour collecting weapons every other day? Or is spending 10 hours + farming 10 relics for over a year socially acceptable?"
Seriously, when it comes down to it here's how the whole heirarchy goes.
Elitest: Has little to no social life but is very talented ingame, prefers to think of FFXI as their own little world.
Hardcore: Skilled in the game but has friend irl/commitments. Can drop the game if need be.
Normal: A good portion of the game population, very balanced in their game time and social time, have plenty of friends to hang out with in the event FFXI ever stops service.
Casual: Prefers to have a social life and leaves little room for improvement in game. Still however can be as good if not better than elitests because of better social skills and the ability to put up with other players due to this. Not as hot tempered, nor doesn't snap people's heads off. Does not think of themselves as 'superior' and therefore casuals make the best ingame friends.

Your attitude towards ppl spending more time in FFXI is no different from "elitists" look at gimps/casuals, when you sound like you're "better" because you have life, and whoever has more accomplishment are no lifers or ppl with big ego. In that way you're just another elitist.

IMO, the difference between "elitist" and "casual":
Elitists: Omg, why those players never fucking read forum before they join my Tojil pt? Why they always cure slow, TP in 0haste, uses wrong rolls and forget to rebuff after buff wore? /rage /rage /rage
Casuals: Omg, why those players always tell me what to do, what to wear? They must have no life if they have X gear or Y gear, and it's my $12 a month I play how I want to play. I have kids to feed and this game better not to be too hard or else I can't get shit done. /rage /rage /rage

I class myself as hardcore; I play the game all the time, I put off real life things in favour of playing and I consider myself quite good at my job. I don't have the best gear, but I have a clear route of progression planned and I'm working on it at my own pace. I classify the players who head nip me constantly about my gear to be elitist - yes, I know STR thok is a better than my Twashtar for my offhand, but what difference does it make if I choose to slightly gimp my own dps just so I can use my 2nd favourite dagger outside of events like Delve? I constantly get people trying to replace filled slots in Qilin shouts - yes, you may have better gear, but I already invited someone in that job, and their gear will be just fine, thanks!

Eh. People take the definitions WAY too seriously. I'm an ultra hardcore player at heart but am casual about FFXI. That's because I play this with my wife, who is a casual player. For fun, when she has some time to kill with me and nothing else needs doing more.
At one point, we joined a linkshell. It was right before she was starting a new job, so had some extra time on there for the moment. It was absurd how everyone was talking in there about what to do with "new members" and "events" of basically trying to max level and blast through all the content ASAP. I don't see how anyone will stay interested if they've already done everything. Is the point of the game to blow through it all in one sitting or is it to have some fun?
Besides this, I am looking forward to when our characters reach high level. I intend to come up with ridiculous unthinkable strategies to pwn tough battles with unexpected classes paired up. There's a lot of freedom to be found in not just following the pack. The "elite" players on these games can't see the forest OR the trees. Find one combination, one approach that works and then they convince each other that no other way can possibly work. When I play games I am hardcore about, I get my kicks by kicking those people around. Usually in PvP. With methods that they would never consider and can't comprehend how to counter. It's fun.

OMG! If we were roommates we could totally be like the Odd Couple. One of us likes WoW, the other likes FFXI. But in the end (especially with SoA), we can both have fun together while hitting rocks in the respective games we play. (Although I'm new to hitting rocks. Can you guide me through the process since you've been doing it in WoW since the beginning?)

To title someone Elitist leads to misjudgment often times. Because 1 player decides to ruin it for everyone else, people tend to assume everyone on the same level are that way.
I've often times been misjudged as "Oh you must be like rest of the Elitist Pricks because you are end game and know what you are doing."
Kind of hard for us to help people with their job when its like trying to tell a Fat Chick how she can lose weight without offending her.

You can continue to follow me around every thread and make fun of me as if I'm a loser, but I assure you i'm not. I'm a DJ in New York City spinning in Manhattan every week that most bedroom DJs only wish they could be where I'm at. I'm a Remix Producer, Recording Engineer and I happen to love FFXI just as everyone else. So you can stop trying to make me look like I'm a no life loser hanging out in the forums. Because it only makes you look you spend your entire day picking on others.
by the way I have my own studio too.

I thought he was making fun of me (where I said that the person who quit WoW for FFXI and myself could play and hit rocks together...)

I thought he was picking on me after I made the last post above that picture like he did in the other thread putting my avatar under the spotlight. If he was responding to you then he should have quoted you.
I guess it gets confusing after picking on several people huh.

This was not picking on or anything close, it was meant to be a funny meme, as it was.

Ok then I'm man enough to say Thorbean, I owe you an apology for misunderstanding you. It's my fault I took it the wrong way and hope you can forgive me for the uneccessary drama.

You posted while I was posting, that's all... Bamph got it! Don't be so serious all the time! I haven't even read the other thread since i last posted there because it doesn't matter. We're not suddenly arch enemies because we disagree about an online game (In my eyes at least). Lighten up.
Ps. What's confusing and who are the several people. Rocks are not people!!!
Seriously though, I'm only kidding, certainly not following you around to make fun of you or whatever, I just seen a post > that popped into my head and made me chuckle so thought I'd share and maybe give someone else a giggle too :D.

And I apologize to you but several times I get in heated debates with others where I never call them names or go that extra step to make fun of them as I respect everyone.
It's not about always being serious. Is that I know people criticize others to extremes for something simple like making a small comment and turning into and 100 thread drama Versus Battle. But again I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Again my English is not very good. And many times i dont understand sayings like "I don't always hit rocks but I do in FFXI."
I just saw it after my post and assumed you were saying that sarcastically to me given your last post you made fun of me with my avatar under the spotlight.
But let's forget about the past and move on. Again I apologize.
Wish I had good translators to help me understand better :) I always think in Korean when typing in English. If you know about Asian languages like Korean and Japanese, we speak sort of backwards like "home you go?" "Eat, did you do it?"

This thread can end or locked it, I never realized I even made it even , Was drunk as hell at the time I made this, and had forgotten that when I hit my late 30's drunken state. I now blackout from time to time. Sorry , There was a lot of good posts. Great reads also.
Drunk posts are often the best, The Best.

Mhm, quite so.
Any time someone calls me an elitist, I just respond with pride.
