World merge character creation

I am not a new player but I am asking this on behalf of one.

My cousin purchased XI at the start of March (great timing!) and tried to join me on my server, which is a Destination World for the latest merge. She started her trial period, tried to make her character on my world then realised she couldn't, and waited until the 16th. The world merge was then delayed indefinitely until the next patch. With the awful happenings in Japan, the world merge has been put back even further now.

When can I play with my friend? Will the world merge be halted to allow people to create characters again, at least on the Destination Worlds, any time soon? I completely sympathise with the unexpected situation but it would be very kind if the suspension could be lifted until the world merge is imminent at this stage, as the pool of servers available to pick is tiny. We even considered a paid world transfer, but that was impossible too because her account is too new. It's just been physically impossible to get her onto my server for a month.

When the merge is complete you will be able to create chars on the destination world. I believe the block is to stop people stealing names maybe something servery in there as well

Yeah, the push back to may is totally understandable due to the situation in japan. But IMHO I feel that since that is over a month from now they should open up the servers to new characters at least till the end of april so that new players may join and be able to play with their friends and family.

Yes, a short term creation period or any of the other suggestions would be fine. I'm raring to go.

Xylia the Gold Worldpass still allowed you to make a char on the server. This costs 8k gil. Good news is that the Trial period will be extended so.... Remake?

Gold worldpasses were no longer being sold when the servers were up :(

Again though, that would be a fine solution. Anything where you have to pay in-game gil or real life cash should discourage 'name squatting' (which I doubt particularly exists on an old server like mine but you never know with some people).

I did Understand your point. If they open the servers for a short time while the merge is held back and the name stealing begins all over again. If they cancel the merge or change which server is merging with which and not tell us then maybe they could open it.


Name jacking was a stab in the eye last merge, people are jerks no matter what we say

It would be nice if they had time to book the character names from the merging servers while they were down, so character creation would be allowed without the name jacking :P (I hope so, since i want to return to Ragnarok after 3 years with a new account ^^)

Character creation only needs to be closed on the destination servers. The source servers can keep the character creation open and name stealing won't happen. SE definitely made a mistake. They should have left the source worlds open.

To Xylia:
Last time there was a world merge, people created characters on the destination world with the same name as characters on the source worlds. Then the new characters asked the source characters for gil for the right to use the name. People ended up having to change names. In order to prevent this, SE closed character creations. But they didn't handle that ideally, as I said.
