View Full Version : How fast is fast?

Hey guys, The purpose of this topic is see how fast a player can reach 99 from the point of view of starting a brand new account regardless of your experience and knowledge, gain access to Adoulin, earn SoA gear from colonization Reives, Enter Delve and Earn a Weapon allowing you to skip the good portion of content quickest way possible. Please Write out how you would do it in a comment.

Reason?

To take a closer look at why we believe how pointless the game has become due to how quick anyone can skip to the end.

Disclaimer: This is not a debate but an insight of how people can do it. Please leave your opinion on what method you would take to accomplish the challenge. Let the Games Begin.

You want me to go spend $40 on a new account, and do everything that I'm working on doing on my main account, just to help you prove a point? I used to like your posts Ultimas, they were generally pretty helpful, but in recent days they've become full of rants and nothing really worth reading.

This is the method I would do it.

Job Thief
Starting from level 1-10 outside of Windurst. Do Gov Pages, earn enough conquest points to buy emperor band. Head to outer Horontoro ruins. Earn fire crystals, Wild onions to sell and earn gil for gear.

From level 10, but stack of prism powder, silent oil, heading to Gusgen Mines, leveling from 10-35. Grabbing all telepoints for DEM, Holla, Mea.
Farm subjob quest items and complete quest.

Walk to Jeuno, save Homepoint, do chocobo quest. Activate Abbysea, grab La Theine Plateu Maw.
Farm items for gil back at windy by using GoV tabs to return to Homepoint.

Change jobs to WHM,
level 1-10 off GoV pages outside windy, head to gusgen mines til 10-35. Stop.

Change jobs to Redmage, Level 1-10 outside windurst using Gov tabs. Head to gusgen mines level from 10-35.

Switch back to WHM grab VW stone, head to abbysea, enter party as keyer. Open boxes by chance until enough Cruor is earned to buy keys. Stay til level limit break quest. Stop. Do level break Quest, Join KI only abbysea groups to earn proper atmas.

Return to Abby as Thief level til limit break, stop.

After breaking each quest. Return and level to 99 on each 3 jobs stop.

Complete Adoulin Quest, buy -Pdt staff, farm dark rings, buy -Pdt cape, 99 AH gear head to Adoulin. Buy spells needed.
Skill up max skill with AH Food.

Playing as WHM, earn Bayld buy Orvail set. Stop.

Enter Plasm farming party with LS friends, Join Delve farm party / Ki party as WHM/RDM.

At this point I wonder how long this would take without earning any AF3 pieces and getting by on AH/Delve gear?

The point is not whether or not people need to gain gear from abbysea but how long would it take a pro to reach 99, enter delve and earn a delve weapon skipping all other content?

Although there may be some flaws, the point was to see if its possible. How much time do you guys think this would take? 1 month?

No I'm saying to write down the detail. To see how others would do it. Not actually go out and do it lol.

I did say that in disclaimer.

Yes and sorry lately I have been writing out rants because of how the game has taken its change. But also rants help me to change my point of view by listening to others opinions.

I spent a good amount of time playing FFXI building my character only to be left in a state of disappointment like many others. This is one of the posts explaining why. If you read some of them, you could see that a lot of my posts are meant to show the devs that we need better attention on things that need to be fixed. Not added.

Like several of us we did pay for Adoulin Expansion and we do keep paying to play the game but voicing out our concerns as to find out why we should continue to play is not a crime. My intentions are not for the worse.

If anything, this post could give others insight on how they level to 99 fastest way possible and can join delve ASAP.

You'd start on THF...?

All wrong.

Job RDM. Not a bad soloer to start you off in the low levels, using a sword and a nuke or 2. level to ~12 then head to gusgen til 30.

Leech to 50 in abyssea.

Unlock SJ and SCH.

Solo SCH to ~12 then Gusgen til 30.

Do limit break quests with a friend, killing 1 mob after the first one to take you to 51, then do next one.

Leech SCH to 60.

Do next 2 LB quests with a friend, again killing 1 mob between to level up to 60 to do the 2nd.

Leech to 70.

Gear up using gil from any pop items/NPCables you aquired whilst keying.

Kill Maat on SCH.

Level to 71 then do LB75 and join an abyssea party.

skip reive gear.

Join a boss shout on SCH, and hope you arrive at the NM before anyone realises how gimp you are.

Hope the rest of the alliance makes up for your shortfalls and you still get the win.

***********************************************************************

Might require a little bit of farming or questing for important scrolls/gear, but even so, if I had a week off work, I could do it in that week, I'm pretty certain.

Reason for choosing SCH? No skilling required, and SCH can be pretty useful in most delve NM fights, if for regen alone. and there's always Embrava too, even if you do only get lower skills with arts when uncapped.

We've had several n00bs in the LS lately. People keep trying to get them to go level jobs, but I convinced one guy the way to do it was abyssea. I helped him get into a pt at 50, he was 90 within 5 hours. Keep in mind he had to keep leaving to do limits. If you have someone to back you, you can go from 1-99 in a day, fresh. 2-3 days is more realistic though, less exhasting and would include empyrean gear. Farming bayld should be a lot easier now with the low man update.

Someone could do this alone with effort in a week.

Edit: BTW, rdm would be a terrible idea and thf is almost just as bad. War would be the easiest.

Well, I started off Thief for Treasure hunter so I could farm wild onions, make the gil needed to buy equipment, items to help get around the game independently. Yeah but also SCH quest vs buying spells for BLM, WHM, Sch.. Takes time compared to using starter jobs.

Not to forget how useful TH is when farming subjob quest items solo at 35.

Flee helps you move around the game faster also when mog tablet swift shoes is up.

But hey just wanted to see how fast others can do it :)

Hmmm I had in mind RDM for fastcast/convert/phalanx/ refresh to sub with WHM to help in survival for Adoulin.

Phalanx compliments -PDT and Stoneskin.

Do war because you can kill faster in your solo to eitehr 10 for burn or 30 for aby.
Whm though dose get you an easier in for any event, ut like you said, you will have to spend money on it. There's no way aroudn that on whm.
skip reive gear.I've never done skirmish.
Bayld farmed kariyeh body/legs/feet, crafting rings x3, turd body.
Already tossed kariyeh body/legs.

Well if you are starting a brand new account, you do need gil. Silent oil, prism powder can be pretty high in price when first starting the game with absolutely nothing.

That was my take on how to get past maps fastest way possible. Also need some basic gear to play in Gusgen mines. And as WHM, RDM need to buy spells.

Gear and food contributes to how fast you can speed level up until you reach Abyssea.

My point of view was based on as if I start a brand new account how fast could I reach 99, skip a good portion of content and earn a delve weapon/gear.

I've never done skirmish too, just getting Orvail set allowed me to play delve easier.

Ebands are free now, you just talk to the npc near the signet guard and do easy tasks (use a ws, get lvl 5) and she gives you Eband, meat jerky strips and a reraise "raising earring". All part of the /easymode stuff after 2010.
I personally liked the pre 2010 game better because I liked long-term goals, grind and sense of accomplishment. I actually preferred the pre-patch skill-up rates, they were medieval and grim but you really felt you had achieved something when you cleared 250~ skill and also they were a symbol of your proficiency in playing that job. If you had capped skills it meant you had played the job for a long long time, and so you were reliable in event parties.
I would sooner have mythic gaxe than delve gaxe, so I dont really see the 'obtain a delve weap' as a meaningful end goal in this test. But people can get new char 1-99 in 2-3 days, some have built Maat's cap on a new char in a few weeks. I'm sure you can get delve on new char easy enough too.
I think rieves are very fail indeed, they are unfit to walk in the footsteps of 'campaign battles'. I still do WOTG area battlefields today, because imo wotg was the last real ffxi expansion we had.

Go into zerhun mines, page to 10, stay in zeruhn mines and burn whatever you can get your hands one. At least 30. Go jeuno, start aby, get your chocobo. Burn in la thine until done.
As for war, get your AF, grab a hauby. Get a GA for around 50k. Easy Maat.
The only thing lengthening the time frame is skill ups.

I remember my third character, my first was on someone else's account and my second, we don't talk about that.
Since I knew what I was doing, I leveled blm to 15, whm30. Back then, people would help you with anything if you were a whm. It was a pretty good scam. Got nin, leveled it to 10. Thf to 20, nin to 37. Thf to 70, Maat.
Maat.

Blm to 37. Whm to 70. Borrowed a n00ble and a terra. Maat.
Whm to 75.
2.5m for raise II... screw that.
Thf to 75.
Pay 1m leveling cooking 1-90 over the course of 9 days.
Abuse the RMT inflation and make 1m a week just selling mithkabobs.
You know what? I think I realy liked whm...
Gear whm.

I went to level RUN when it came out and DAMN, they have it so easy these days.

Lol.. I guess I was lucky.. Went Thief, stole warp scroll and bam I was outta there..

Then again made all my gil off fire crystals and stacks of Wild Onions, they were about 28-30k per stack for onions when I came back. The one item that i know will always sell on a daily basis. Fastest way to make gil at level 10 even better at 15 once you get TH1.

Wow you really do have horrible luck. If you were on my server, people tend to get things they want when I'm around. One of my friends tried to get ABJ from Kirin for Blood Cuisses. After 22 times, he asked me to help. Got it to drop twice after doing Kirin twice back to back.

Other friends too for things they've tried hard to get.

Its luck. I have not gotten myself Twilight Mail because I never cared enough to get it. At the same time, I got my friend a full set in a matter of his first 2 kills back to back, got my GF the Mail in 4 kills, Helm was on the 6th, went out about a week ago and got 2 of my friends Mails in 4 kills, 1 on the first, 1 on the 4th. In all of this, I never got my own, but I have tried probably 10~15 kills. Its all luck based, stupidly, but it is.

I forgot to mention that SMN was the job that I levelled as my first job to 75 after having quit and given 13 mil away to a friend. When I returned, I used THF for a little farming, but emp pin and leaping boots went r/e and I couldn't get gil any more. SMN required almost nothing in gear to be adequate (and back then even smn skill counted for nothing) so the only hard bit was actually getting exp. I already had garuda too, which helped. All others I got from lvl 20 fights bar Titan after going 0/7 I gave up, but if you leech to 99 these days you could easily solo the primes, even with just carby and maybe a cheap spirit.

For 1-99, since when I returned I tried to get a friend to join as well so started a fresh character. Without using my old character to support it, was able to get to 99 in about a week avoiding Gusgen Mines GoV parties, and Abyssea pre-75.

I'd recommend starting in Bastok if doing a fresh run. For a few reasons, several GoV locations near town, easy town to get around in, decent enemy drops in the area as well. Beehive chips, Wild Onions for gil, and zinc ore to start working on Tenshodo fame early. Have done this route on multiple jobs, if have problems in some spots, upgrade your weapon and spells first as they will make the largest difference.

1-9 South Gustaberg: Do the worm, bee or goblin FoV pages, staring near the town exit at first, then going up on Vomp Hill around level 6ish and make sure to open any brown caskets you come across for chances at free level 9-10ish gear like the Scale armor set.

9-23 Dangruf Wadi: Do the goblin page till around 16 or 17, then jump to the leech/bunny page til about 22-23. Keep opening those brown caskets, they can have level 70ish gear in them which NPC for about 6-10k on average, and some of the crafting materials that show up are 20k+.

23-43 Korroloka Tunnel: Start with the bat/worm pages which can be a little rough starting out depending on job and what most of the enemies are checking as they would be a DC-T range starting out, they last till 33ish, when can swap to the Leech page that can get you to 43. Still keep at the caskets, more 70ish gear and crafting items, but also the Rare Brachyura Earring which can be AH'ed for about 100k(Price on Siren), or kept for later as its effect can be handy.

After 43, can stay in Korroloka for Gigas till 50, but better to go to Upper Delkfuts tower as the Gigas there are the same level range, and more numerous, just need to be careful of Elementals spawning. If going to Delkfuts, work on getting your nation missions done before heading there, as there is one that has you going to the same place.

50-57 Garlaige Citadel: The Beetle and Siege Bat page is your friend, if you can camp by the Banishing Gate, will need sneak/invis to get there if want to avoid agro. The tri-bats and skeletons agro sound, beetles agro Sight, and the Seige Bats do link. Can also stay near the entrance. For the mages, one key thing to do is Aspir the beetles to help reduce downtime.

After 57, there are lots of options but not all work well for every job, so have to find one that works well for your job. Try and keep to GoV page areas though for fastest leveling. Crawler's Nest, Boyahda Tree, Sea Serpent Groto, Bostaunieux Oubliette, Gustav Tunnel, Kuftal Tunnel, and Quicksand Caves are likely your best options.

Now if you happen to get to know someone who is willing to burn pages on BST for you, I highly recommend the Antica page in Quicksand caves and go in the Western Altepa J-9 entrance. Stay at the bottom of the entrance, while they pull the Antica, alternating between the South and North sides. The mobs are barely EP to a 99 so they die really quick and there are lots of them. It is not uncommon to complete 4-5 pages per pull, and can pull almost non-stop.

I'd prefer it over that, more due to how disruptive a Doll's Meltdown can be, and don't have to worry about running back and forth to turn in. Caps out at 2960 per page on XP. Times I have done it, average about 12-15k XP a pull easily when pages are capped, able to get up to around 25k pull if get both sides, easier to alternate sides to avoid depops and have less downtime for the BST pet and repops. Downtime had was more when the person pulling was experimenting with how to best optimize the pulls, or when the pet decided to go into the walls and we had to just wait. At low levels, just have to beware of the BLM's if they decide to -Ga a lot.

And it definitely beats some other common GoV burn locations if just going for XP, as fairly easy to round up the mobs on top of them being very numerous.

Yeah, the reason I ask is because I'm leveling a few new jobs on my mule and generally just messing around while I wait to see what happens with the devs.

I messed around in altep on sam and was able to get up to about 135,000 xp/hr for my mule. There was no point in doing the ops on my sam seeing as I capped out in the first couple hours on EXP / Merits. I just kept pulling the mobs close to the sergeant on my sam while I ran back and forth on my mule.

I probably could have actually gotten a lot better exp if I had changed merits / jobs / gear a little. I was very lazy about it.

I don't mind the running around killing stuff part, but the turning in pages thing was really tedious.

Hopefully they set a plan in stone some day so that I can set goals again. At the moment, no piece of gear is safe. No point building sand castles when the tide is coming in ya know?

Just gonna estimate XP per hour based off of repop times and page xp for you if get in a good groove. At 5min repops for the antica, could get 12 pulls from one side if did it perfectly, so if get good on the timing with alternating up to 24 pulls in an hour at best. Figure 18 pulls per hour is more realistic results for most people, so 18*12,000, would come out around 216k xp an hour with capped pages. As I know once me and my friend got the hang of the place, the mobs would begin repopping just about the time got back to the where started the pulls.

Hopefully they set a plan in stone some day so that I can set goals again. At the moment, no piece of gear is safe. No point building sand castles when the tide is coming in ya know?

I hear you on that, part of why been a bit disinterested of late.
