There is seriously somethign wrong with this when I can load the entire game fresh and fully update it in less time.

Took a shower, in that time it went up 2% and added another 30min.
Started at 1, it's now 2, at 14%.

I guess the silver lining is that the time remaining is not really all that reliable...

It has nothing to do with our internet connections. This is the only game / software that I own or have ever owned that downloads files this slow. This has always been a problem with FF XI. You must have gotten the update before everyone started downloading it. I am sitting at 2 hours and 30 mins now and I started the update over an hour ago.

It should not take this long to get a 1 gig update. I download other 1 gig files in minutes.

Yeah, but have you ever tried doing that during a period when there's just been a major patch and everyone is apparently slamming the download server trying to patch?

I am a little annoyed now since he is not even here. We are both on the same router same internet and everything.

I can download updates on FFXIV every week no issue when there are literally thousands of testers spamming it, much more than FFXI atm, and zero issues. FFXI just crappy patcher.

I'm not blazing fast but I'm pulling a steady 40 Mbps. Don't think my internet speed is the bottleneck.

I just wish I could log in! I had the day off today and was eager to play FFXI. The maintenance was finished 3.5 hours ago and I still cant play :(

51%!!! O.oYou'll keep a measure of your progress sometimes. @32%, projected finish, 9pm... Entire expansions didn't take this long.

Also... the 9 year old computer finished in an hour and crashed in the middle...

Hmmm... I was tempted to try the update on my laptop because of these reports of drastically shorter times for people based on device (seemingly). But if I log into POL on my laptop it will stop the update on my desktop ><

So I continue to wait... Hopefully I will get to play a decent amount before I go to bed tonight...

I'm back at 0% after all this... I think it saved the download progress though thankfully because the time remaining is still in the same neighborhood as I remember it being before the disconnection.

there is no reason it should take 7+ hours to download.
