Windower question

Recently got this game, and started playing. I love it so far, but windowed mode looks...well unappealing. I heard of a program called Windower, but before doing ANYTHING with it, I wanted to ask here about the legality of it. I don't want to get banned, and all I want is to make my game look nice, and less pixelly. I can run it fine on my computer, and I have a 20" screen.

Could you give me a screenshot of the in-game gamma stuff? And I'd still like to know about Windower's legality.

I am not sure that it gives any substantial increase in graphical quality over what you can obtain using the FFXI config utility:

It is ban-worthy to use programs that interact with FFXI in any way. However, from the same link that Shirai posted:

SQUARE ENIX MAY SUSPEND, TERMINATE, MODIFY, OR DELETE FINAL FANTASY XI SERVICE ACCOUNTS, CHARACTERS, VIRTUAL GOODS, OR THE SERVICE ALTOGETHER, AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON OR FOR NO REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE OR LIABILITY TO YOU.

Given the variability in enforcement, whether or not it increases your odds of being banned is difficult to say. Everything you do is at your own risk and you do risk your account. However, even just paying for your account is not risk free (especially if your credit card company does automated chargebacks).

May simply need to adjust your foreground/background resolutions. At the very least, they should be the same settings, but to improve quality you want to set the background (3D) higher than your foreground (actual display resolution), preferably 2x. Any higher may bog some older systems down and kill the frame rate bbecause of all the extra oversampling.
