View Full Version : What would you take from FFXIV and put into FFXI?

Besides the obvious improved high quality graphics and the amazing music from Nobuo Uematsu which actually may be the only good things of FFXIV, what are some other features of FFXIV (If any) that you would take from FFXIV and place into FFXI if it could be made possible without any limitations of old systems getting in the way (lolPS2)?

For myself personally, I always wished that FFXI would have those icons shown below or beside each characters name to tell you which character has what on them so that way you don't have to make sure you don't miss anything in the chatlog to recast a buff or erase/na spell a debuff on your character. When I saw this feature in FFXIV I was actually quite amazed and happy that SE placed this in FFXIV, but I wish FFXI could have this feature as well.

You answered your own question in your first sentence, graphics and music. That's it. Period.

Other than that FFXIV can sink in the toilet like my terds just did from the crap I just took.

1) Linkshell Emblems/Shield Crests
2) Retainers so we could bazaar without having the game on
3) Crafting mini game system rather than "you failed because I (the game) said you did"
4) More Teleport points (Aetheryte crystals minus the anima)
5) Eh, it's too hard to think of anything else, would just get depressed.

Edit: But yeah, this thread is backwards as those are the only "good" things I can think of about FFXIV. Look at how miniscule they are. Not even worth the trouble. Just add all the good things about FFXI to FFXIV, boom, done.

I hear NPCs could actually speak now in that Game, I guess that would be cool too...

Nothing. i'd rather ff14 grew one way and ffxi grew its own.

It's not backwards. This is a FFXI forum, not a FFXIV forum, and let's admit it, FFXI is still successful while FFXIV may be on the brink of getting scrapped.

There are a few good features of FFXIV that they never could put in or never did put in FFXI so let's say FFXIV does fail one day then at least maybe SE can put some of these features into FFXI if PS2 gets thrown out the window. If FFXIV ever picks up though then yes, it would be best for the game's feature to stay separate from FFXI so that it can be unique all in itself.

FFXIV won't be scapped still has PS3 version to come out and save it. PS2 will never be droped from FFXI but if I have to pick stuff from FFXIV to put in here then I would have to say Crafting and Retainers love that can bazzar even when not logged in :)

And people said that the servers wouldn't be back online until the end of April :X I do doubt they'll drop ps2, despite numerous complaints and how badly it is holding us back. However, I also doubt FFXIV will last that long, especially after having the servers shut down for over a week. I could be wrong but, hey, a man can dream.

Absolutely nothing. Maybe replace the FFXI ahrimans with the XIV ones. XI has better art direction and music than XIV does by a longshot.

As long as they fix FFXIV before PS3 release and actually advertise it FFXIV could be very sucsessful.

I'd never trade XI's music for XIV's, not a chance!
Ronfaure, Gustaberg, Zi'tah, Khazam, Movalpolos, the Tavnazian Archipelago... heck even small places like Mhaura and Selbina got their own theme and they're all beautiful. I also like Distant Worlds (performed by Susan Calloway) better than Answers. Maybe it's because the whole game feels kinda empty, but I like XI's more classic direction than XIV's "reinvented".

Only thing I'd take is the graphic and that's about it.

They really need to just bite the bullet and upgrade our graphics. There's really no excuse when this game keeps on giving to them 12 months a year at around 6 million dollars per month. I'm not much a fan of my dollars being used to pay other people's paychecks on other games when it should be used on the game I'm paying for. And that's not an unrealistic expectation. I am paying a monthly fee for FFXI. Not FFXIV. Not FF15. Not DQXwhatever. But for FFXI. I expect it to be updated. I'm being patient and not making a fuss so far. I can live with my money going elsewhere to keep them afloat or whatnot... for a time but only for so long. And right now I want better graphics for the PC version. Other games have done it. It's time FFXI steps up to the plate and just do it. We'll probably not see anymore expansions as long as the PS2 is supported. The least they can do is give us something new to look at until the end days.

Nah it wont shut down anytime soon . . . . . it's free and people like free. . . . People also like seeing progress and seeing what direction the game is heading in so enough people will stay just for that . . And SE will keep it open just for that . . . But yeah the game is pretty bad right now XDDD if anything I would take from FFXI to FFXIV XD.

lol ya its your right to dream I don't mind people complaining it just your point of view. I could be wrong too hope I'm not. While agree PS2 is holding FFXI back at same time, I also know the FFXI has run its course and is winding its cycle down which was the whole reason for SE putting out new MMO FFXIV. What people either don't know or have forgotten is that Japan is primarily console based not a lot of them game on PC they prefer there consoles for games. So the likelihood of Japan SE dropping PS2 and cutting off most of there countries access well just not going to happen. Now FFXIV yes there is no disputing it has had major problems from the beta onward it has been improving at a steady pace, and if the public would just stop bashing it for moment. Give it time to mature, give constructive ideas on how they can improve it and stop just saying it sucks, why does it suck, whats your problem with it. Maybe then we can get a better game so when FFXI is done we have a new home to take its place.

XIV has lots of features that XI could use, just as XI has lots of features XIV could use. And I'm not saying this to make the games more similar, these are simple features that wouldn't change the gameplay. Many were already mentioned..

1) Linkshell embles/shield crests
2) Retainers/bazaar mules
3) Better crafting system
4) More teleport points (although admittedly moving around is a lot easier on XI by now)
5) Show status effects of party members
6) Show remaining time on own effects
7) Multiple linkshells equipped
8) Better chatlog filtering/organizing, customizable tabs, different log windows
9) Minimap on the screen
10) Customizable HUD
11) Using the numpad to input numbers
12) Built-in IME support
13) No POL, better/faster login and updates

Just a few, I'm sure there's more. Again, not saying there aren't things XIV could use, the list is easily twice as long. However, XIV is a very new game compared to XI. Some of these features have been suggested for XI for ages (literally) and are still not implemented.

1) Linkshell embles/shield crestsOnly if they make them customizable. They are quite ugly.
2) Retainers/bazaar mulesIt's good, but I'd never use it.
3) Better crafting systemNo, not in the slightest. Crafting should not be a mini game.
4) More teleport pointsBut you have limited uses.
5) Show status effects of party membersAs a WHM, I like this idea, but it'd put too much on the screen in large PTs.
6) Show remaining time on own effectsI think this is unessisary, too many variables.
7) Multiple linkshells equippedWasn't a fan of that feature.
8) Better chatlog filtering/organizing, customizable tabs, different log windows
9) Minimap on the screenSE already stated that this was unimplementable in FFXI.
10) Customizable HUD[Please use the auto translate function.]
11) Using the numpad to input numbersYou can already.
12) Built-in IME support
13) No POL, better/faster login and updatesComentary has been added into the quote.

1) Linkshell embles/shield crests

While I agree, many don't think so, and they do contribute to the roleplay factor regardless.

2) Retainers/bazaar mules

It's good, but I'd never use it.

Well this is more than just convenience. There are many people who have second accounts just to mule/bazaar efficiently. Although getting rid of that may not necessarily be in SE's best interest, it is still a very practical feature.

3) Better crafting system

No, not in the slightest. Crafting should not be a mini game.

Why not? I dislike the random win/lose thing. Regardless, I wasn't asking for a minigame, just something to make it more appealing. As I said, I don't want them to just copy the game style.

4) More teleport points

But you have limited uses.

Still allows for easier access. And again, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same.

5) Show status effects of party members

As a WHM, I like this idea, but it'd put too much on the screen in large PTs.

Agreed, however it could be reduced to only important status effects or restricted to one party.

6) Show remaining time on own effects

I think this is unessisary, too many variables.

Not sure how those are related, it should be easy enough to determine.

7) Multiple linkshells equipped

Wasn't a fan of that feature.

I wouldn't use it either, but it opens possibilities to people who could use it.

8) Better chatlog filtering/organizing, customizable tabs, different log windows

9) Minimap on the screen

SE already stated that this was unimplementable in FFXI.

Oh? Must have missed that. Still, it is a feature XIV has that would improve XI.

10) Customizable HUD

{Please use the auto translate function.}

Being able to adjust the position of screen elements, chatlog, HP bar, Party list, etc.

11) Using the numpad to input numbers

You can already.

Not the last time I checked, although admittedly that may have been some time ago. Did they change that?

12) Built-in IME support

13) No POL, better/faster login and updates

14) Specific market wards

15) Designated bazaar area

16) Searchable bazaars

Anyway, this is not an official list or anything, just some things I noticed about XIV that seemed more advanced than XI's facilities. Some of them are basic to implement (Numpad), others more complex (IME), some are minor features (Linkshell emblems), others are huge (Retainers). Either way, this game still has lots of things it could use from XIV, just as the other way around.

I was unaware that you could move the screen elements around. You could put that absolute;y anywhere you wanted or was it limied to some kind of grid?
As for the numbers, you could always use it as far as I know.

Unfortunately no grid, I still believe my two chatlogs have a slightly different width, but it's very hard to test. There's an option to reset it though I think.

Well this makes the thread I made useless >< Maybe that's why no one replied. People could have just told me I was being stupid..

if your question was really FFXIV to FFXI the answer is nothing.
maybe the custom stats as you level and the elemental resistance things.

3) Better crafting systemNo, not in the slightest. Crafting should not be a mini game.So you'd rather just sit there and watch a crystal spin for 10 seconds. OK, Frankly I think the one really good thing in XIV is the crafting system. It makes you feel like you actually have control over the output instead of it just being totally up to chance.

Outside of that-
an action bar would be nice, and thusly having the 0-9 keys along with the ctrl and alt 0-9 combos to activate abilities and macros.

Better mouse controls that are actually useful

Faster HP/MP recovery out of combat

Voiceovers for major cutscenes.

The only major beef I have with FFXIV in its current state is a staggering lack of content. There are so many things that should be added by now that are still missing e.g. chocobos, last update added non-storyline quests but there are not enough of them.

I liked that the Linkshells were not actual items, pearls, that took up space. Graphics were a plus. I also liked that there were "Quests" that helped you level crafting so that you didn't have to spend tons of cash if you were a casual crafter. Not losing experience points was nice as well. That's about all I can think.

Is this a serious question? The playerbase had already been grounded into dust and then grounded again. I doubt all of those players are going to return after realizing the time they were wasting. Sure, it's free per month but, with no one playing it, how would that matter? If they can't keep the playerbase (a small one at that), then there's no point in keeping the servers up, especially not for free.

Actually XIV playerbase is probably around the same size or maybe a little smaller than XI's.

But i would take nothing but graphics, and that isnt even XIV graphics, just "updated graphics" in general, i wouldnt take music, i hate it in XIV.

I play both xiv/xi now and like them individual, well i lie i hate xiv until it gets something good lol, my 50conj is just sitting collecting dust.

I sort of agree with the guy who said this thread is backwards, but :)

I personally think Final Fantasy 11 has better music than 14, so I woudn't even want to swap those.

I think 14 has a better crafting system. But other than that.... probably nothing lol

.

I think you missed the guy's point. He was saying 11 was the far superior game. So naturally it was 14 that could really benefit from carrying over game ideas from 11 - not vice versa.
