I love samurai dont get me wrong but with almost all jobs having the ability to do a AoE wpn skill via polearm greataxe hand to hand. Great katana is lacking ><; Callit whirlwind or something doesnt have to be great or what not just something. Even if it isnt as strong as Fell Cleave or others it would help when a samurai was out farming . And would open some deminsions to a Samurai being able to take on more oen oppenent at a time giving them more verstility in the game than the one mob killer :) Any ideas on this please let me know

Use polearm. Use sonic thrust. It's not a circular AoE, so you have to line up properly, but still better than nothing and does put in work.

correct I agreee polearm works but I was looking for a more core Great Katana weapon skill not a polearm one realy. Even if it was a frontal conal area based weapon skill for Great Katana... Im sure its not like samurais didnt hit mutiple targets one swing with that big thing :)

From my years of being a sam, we are here to either start or finish a WS Skillchain in order for the squishy blackmages to get their /emotaru fix :)

yea, it was around that time i think.
light(ice) elemental aoe gk ws <yes please>
Tachi: Kanji
"Delivers an area attack that deals fire elemental damage. Damage varies with TP."
Graphic image: The Samurai performs a 360 twirl of his Great Katana while quickly thrusting the blade into the ground; flames in the image of a "Bird-like" creature ignite upon impact blazing from the ground up while engolfing the targets within reach of the weapon-skill in flames.
I wish I could design a video to better show what I had in mind, but this is the best I can think of and hope you guys liked it.
The reason I chose "Kanji" for the weapon-skill name:
In Japan, the phoenix is called hō-ō (kanji: 鳳凰) or fushichō (不死鳥?), literally "Immortal Bird".
Ryozen

Then why not Tachi: Fushichō?
Then why not Tachi: Fushichō?
It was more for the idea and my opinion...lol. Kanji just had this ring to it when I read up on Phoenix. But we're not discussing the reason I chose Kanji over Fushichō. We're discussing the idea of the Weapon-skill, the idea I have submitted.

Regardless of the fact that the term "Kanji" has nothing to do with the concept of the WS whatsoever?
You've lost me there.

Let me repost the Graphic image idea that I had so noone asks this question again.

I like the concept of the attack, but all Ryozen was simply meaning that kanji has nothing to do with the actual description of the attack. Kanji is a writing style in Japan and doesn't have anything to do with the description of the attack, nor does it have anything to do with the hō-ō or the fushichō. All the other great katana weaponskills have a name based on the attack animation (or in Tachi: Rana's case, the mythic weapon it's tied to), such as Tachi: Ageha showing butterflies when Ageha basically means Swallowtail butterfly, Tachi: Gekko shows a full moon and Gekko roughly means "moonlight", etc.
Tachi: Kanji's animation would really have to be about writing characters for the name to fit

Tachi: Gekko shows a full moon and Gekko means Moonlight. Tachi: Kanji shows a Phoenix and Kanji means Phoenix. I was adding the quote from where I found this out at. It was merely a suggestion based on info that I had read up on and got the idea from this. This is the best way I can explain it, sorry if anyone has trouble understanding my explanation still.

Kanji is a style of writing. Think of it like cursive compared to printing. It's a bit more complicated than that, but it definitely does not mean phoenix.
Lol, can't stop laughing at the name Tachi: Kanji

No it doesn't mean phoenix. The quote that you posted showed that the word hō-ō (which is the name of the Japanese equivalent of the phoenix) is written as 鳳凰 in kanji. Likewise, the name fushichō written in kanji is 不死鳥. Kanji is nothing more than a writing style in Japan that uses modified Chinese characters. That's why Ryozen pointed out that something like Tachi: Fushichō would be a more appropriate name, because Fushichō actually has something to do with the phoenix, whereas the word kanji does not.
Like Ryozen and I both said, the actual idea of the WS is nice, and we're not trying to hamper your creativity, we were both just pointing out that Kanji doesn't work as a name for the weaponskill you created.

Ok so from what I have read we have semi agreed on the following...or similar (stil welcome other ideas always )
Tachi: Fushichō

~I still would need more data to incoperate specifics for this ~
1=The actualy name specifics or meaning I am unsure of ....
2= now what would be the actualy modifiers str? and what percentage
3=would it be a 1 hit or 2 hit since it does a 1 2 combo or would it add fire elemental damage to the attack and be a 1 hit
4=further along the lines would it have a damge mutiplier if done @ 200 tp base or a 300 tp base?
5 =What level skill aquired Also asmuing SE was to incoperate this it would have to be availbale I am guessing post 90 so @ 91 level skill or higher (given gear and merrits might already meen you have it when they make it)
Just trying to expand on your ideas ... I can understand the importance and w/e of the quality of the name (baring I am still lost 1/2 u talking about for specifics of it lol) But the response and originality and depth research I realy like. :) I would like to eleaberate on this or incorperate more on this or other ideas as a solid form of a AoE weapon skill we can agree with on and hopefully a Moderator of SE will pick up on it like it and incoperate the ideas. After all isnt that what this forum is about :)

The name of the Japanese mythological creature that is the equivalent of the western concept of the phoenix is hō-ō, and as I described in my last post, the mix-up as to why Raka thought that Kanji meant phoenix stems from misinterpreting the article that they posted, which was
in Japan, the Phoenix is called hō-ō (kanji: 鳳凰) or fushichō (不死鳥?), literally "Immortal Bird"
They interpreted that the text in the first set of parentheses was that kanji was a name for the phoenix/hō-ō, when all it's saying is that the name hō-ō is written in kanji as that.
A clearer way of laying out what the article is really trying to say would be something along the lines of, "In Japan, the Phoenix is called hō-ō, which is written in kanji as 鳳凰. Its alternate name, fushichō, or "immortal bird", is written in kanji as 不死鳥"

I will give some thought on this idea as well as I myself like the idea of a Ice AoE WS too. could still use your idea of a circle aoe whirlwind attack, forming you in a chunk of ice that breaks that has snowflakes fall around people or something among that extent for the animation.... Just some insperation for your ideas raka lolz. Plus i am sorry Hiko i totaly overlooked your post with all the debate concerning the name issues of the one

any thoughts yet concerning your old ideas concering 2~4 i seen your concept as a 1 or 2 hit weapon skil lone with the additional whirlwind attack one with the pheonxi , or would that just be the added fire elemental damage. I envisioned STR being a modifier @ 40% and dex @ 10 % maybe do the the fact you must move around your whole body str getting you thought to the next why it has priority. And do a dmg increas 125% @ 200 150% @ 300 sound about right? for these ....
Would likely be STR+30% INT+30%, not 100% certain just yet. Working on quite a few projects at the moment, but any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
It would most likely be a 2-fold AoE. Of course it'll need tweaks as it could possibly be overpowering, but I still like the concept of an Area Attack WS for Samurai none the less.
I thought about a damage multiplier to this, yes, however as stated in the above section, it'll need tweaks as it could possibly be overpowering. So as a result I thought that the TP can act as an accuracy multiplier.
Again, any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Alot of projects to work on, so will try to keep up to date on this thread of what I have worked out.

What skill level would you get this new weapon skill at that could depict alot of the modifiers and str atm. Keeping in mind sonic thrusts str fell cleave and others currently in use now. Witht hat in mind it could now be a more powerful weapon skill if achieved at a 99 cap skill or simiar skill level.(although I would like to see it before we hit 99 just to play with it).
My question is why int modifier? This depicts your ability to decide how your attack will go though mutiple mobs hitting them ? Was sorta unsure why the 30-30% percent with int came into play other than that. I was thinking more of a dex based but the int. part could come with the added pheonix effect useage also reling solo int for the part of the skill and the str part of the beining part of the animation maybe was your idea

I figured it's either be a 2-fold attack or an elemental attack, though I forgot to post this earlier. As the actual attack that even connects with the monster would be the Phoenix. So that is basically why I figured INT should be a modifier, though I am open to suggestions and opinions regarding this.
Like I said though, may be slow to replying as working on several projects at the moment, but I will keep everyone up to date as often as I can. Working out ideas on multiple WS at the moment, designing the Graphic Images is a priority.
I am also working at the Ice AoE WS too, can submit both the current WS idea and then that for SquareEnix to later choose, hopefully if either catches their interest.
Keep those suggestions and ideas coming!
Just make fudo a frontal cleave. The animation already matches perfectly.
It does look like the animation of an Area of Effect WS, this is true. However, it always struck me as that Anime-like moment where two Samurai have a duel: Stance...few seconds go by....screen flashes with a couple slash images appearing....One Samurai collapses, the other Victorious!
Good thought still, but if Fudo were a Conal-Attack, it would be limiting to places you engage at, say there are monsters behind our current battle target, you would lose the benefits of Overwhelm and/or should there be hordes of monsters around your current target, you will have no alternative but to use another WS, if the surrounding monsters are strong enough to overpower you anyways.
- I dont like the idea of 2hit elemental WS: the only 2hit ele WS (jinpu) is half physical, half magical, can full miss (other ele WS cant miss), and does not constant dmg (before resist)
- for WSC 30STR,30int, 2.75/4/5 ftp mod (same than cataclysm)
- skill 375
- quested weapon skill ( maat fight like but versus tenzen or selh'teus )

Yeah, sorry. I had to reread my recent posts. Not sure if you were just saying in paticular that you didn't like the idea of a 2-fold Elemental WS or were responding to my post. When I typed the second to last most recent posts, I left out that it woud either be "A 2-fold WS or an 'Single attack' Elemental WS".
But yeah, not a chance would it be a 2-Fold Elemental(AoE) WS, too much power.
Thank you for you posting by the way.
I had a similar idea in mind for obtaining this WS as you did, but it would for certain have to be a quest involving Tenzen.
Perhaps Tenzen request you to find and bring him an item "Phoenix Pinion" and head to Empyreal Paradox, then trade the Phoenix Pinion to the battlefield targetable to enter a one on one fight with either Tenzen or Phoenix. Not sure, but would be one of the two as it would certainly be better than having to rack up WS points...lol.
Anyways, keep up the ideas! Good job and thanks for the submitted posts so far!
