I have a question, when SE decided to re-work Perfect Defense that you need 600 summoning magic to get the full effect from it, and also said that gear was gonna be released to help us see that number.
Where is this gear they speak of? I've complained about this before that our 2hr is the only one is locked where we can't use the full power of it while all other jobs don't have to worry about needing a skill level they can't obtain to use.
Anyones thoughts on this?

Warrior can't use the full power of mighty strikes with 200 gaxe (or gsword) skill either.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a RNG's Eagle Eye Shot with low skill is almost always going to do nothing.

yes but if you get your skill up it won't be an issue.
What i'm trying to say is that perfect defense needs 600+ summoning magic to be used to its proper potential but there is no way that we can achieve this even with the best gear. I'm not aware of any other 1hr ability that needs a skill level that is unobtainable to use the full extent of a single ability. The would be like SE changing mighty strikes to a 1hr that only has a 80% chance of critical if your skill is less the 600 Or having eagle eye shot get accuracy negatives for not having under 600 range weapon skill.

As I recall, SE didn't say that we would ever receive gear to help us to reach 600, only that we may see more skill gear in the future. The 600 skill cap was just in case they ever decided to release enough gear to go higher than that, so we wouldn't be able to get 3 minute PDs once again.

I'm also pretty sure SE will never add so much SMN skill gear that we will actually be able to get to the full 60 seconds of Perfect defense (as if it was that gamebreaking to give us those 6-7 seconds more duration). I was pretty unhappy with that notion back when it was changed (not that it was changed. 90 seconds was pretty broken imo).
SE always holds a carrot on a stick right in front of us, but we'll never be able to catch it.
They just don't seem to understand how far behind we SMNs are compared to most other jobs which doesn't have to be the case if they would listen to us who actually play the job.

A 100skill chainspell or manafont isn't gonna do a whole lot at 75+ either :p.

True... but such examples are situations where one is suffering in general from being under natural caps. What is at issue here is skill OVER natural caps, and not just a handful of points over cap either. Talking about reaching 183 points over the raw skill cap of 417 at level 99.

They never promised this gear. They said so themselves. Setting the skill to that value wasn't a guarantee or promise that gear would be made avialable to achieve that value within any certain period of time.
Personally, I was not against reducing the duration to 60 seconds. But making 60 seconds require an unachieveable (or even barely achieveable) amount of summon magic was too far. Why they couldn't just make it a flat 60 seconds is beyond me.

End of the day, Perfect Defense is another Blood Pact: Ward. Granted, you need to pop Astral Flow to use it, but like the majority of Blood Pact: Wards it has a Skill : Duration ratio. SE just made it so you had to keep on top of your gear to make it as good as possible unlike the rest which capped out at 500 skill. Granted you can't cap it now, but you couldn't cap most enhancing spells etc at 75 either.
With SE adding what they like to think is the equivalent of Lv.120 gear and us being 55 off the PD cap at the moment (53 if you could Aptus Earring, but that thing is annoying as hell to get), who's to say they won't add multiple pieces of gear with 20 Summoning skill for instance? Maybe part of the new Grip?

They didn't make it a flat 60 seconds, as otherwise all the smn mules that everyone took to do ADL would never even have to buy/earn a single spirit/avatar since 0 skill would give them 60 sec. I'd have settled for 500 skill cap for 60 sec though as then a SMN would at least need to skill up/buy gear to hit cap.

Sooooooo, this doesnt mean they may be adding more skill gear in the future to obtain 600 summoning skill at some point?

The same way we were supposed to get Cait Sith? :p
Cheap, shot, I know...
But seriously? I'm willing to give them a bit of leeway here - to see what these grips are going to be like, and all. However, ultimately, at this point? All the pretty promises in the world mean nothing until they get implemented.

First, there is a question about the cap on summoning skill being 600 being a mistake; however, this is the correct number. While it might not be currently possible to reach this number, the development team set the cap to 600, so consider that there may be room to increase this in the future.
No it doesn't. Not really. May does not translate to will. Even if it did say there will be room to increase this in the future, it wouldn't mean that they would do it, just that it is possible.

But you guys are sayin they wont (think some posts above said SE said they wouldnt, been a while since i read the thread) and im sayin dont rule it out lol.
I said may in my post not will, but go ahead and take it like i said will (not trying to be an ass here). And yea i know the whole Pet: treasure hunter debacle where they said they would possibly add it later then denied even sayin that.
Cait sith isnt a cheap shot at all towards me lol i dont work for SE. Cait is comin tho, i know i know been a long time but it is, I am with you i want them new avatars too.

uh, so what? they're already reducing the max duration by 30 seconds. It's still modified by remaining MP. It shouldn't be based on summon skill at all.
