View Full Version : What's in the future for Crafting?

Let's be honest here. Crafting is all but dead thanks to Abyssea. Most people can just grab whatever cheap NPC-buyable armor they can and a few crappy weapons and solo to 30, then leech until they can get Abyssea armors and weapons.

There's a major gap between 30-70 as far as any gear or consumables, such as food or medicines, that just aren't needed or useful anymore. This, in turn, makes a lot of craft items useless.

So, what's in the future for crafting? I'm sure there are many crafters out there who wish they could still craft useful things.

I would like to see them lift the cap on secondary crafts....never really understood the limit they put on that system. I would gladly craft things for people, but my main is cooking, so I'm limited in what I can do on the other crafts. So, I usually just stick to what I need and then sell some on the side.

Synergy - I think that's all SE might update and use in the future. The rest of the crafts get the shaft.

As a CC97 I've not noticed any slowdown on ppl buying Cursed equipment and upgrade mats for AF armour off the Auction House (I think there are people who are just interested in getting full sets and storing them^^) and there's still a profit to be made from tools and ammo.

Also, a few ppl have sent me /tells ingame asking for pieces of low-level armour to be crafted if they supply the mats (which has been a nice way of making new friends). I guess now that XP is easier to get hold of, more people are levelling multiple jobs. Sure, there are some people who feel the need to get from 1-90 in the shortest time possible (more power to you, bro!), but I think the majority of the playerbase are happy to gear up, party up with LS mates and actually take the time to enjoy the game they're playing.

So I don't agree that it's dead, and I do feel that I'm still crafting useful things for some people..!

Crafting isnt exactly dead. It is specialized maybe? Shehei is doing really well. Foods do well. Or seem to from this consumers side. Gear doesnt seem to be hot but then again it never really was. I never seem to have trouble selling off my surplus WW supplies.
Synergy gets way to much love from SE in my opinion but thats because I detest it.

I have CC100, and I've made approx 30M~ from crafting over the past couple of months. I wouldn't say it's dead, just gotta know what you're doing.

I agree with this. Oddly enough that is the way it has always been, at least for the six years I have played the game. Crafting is a lot like real life. You cant just produce something and expect to make money/gil on it. It has to be something people want. Unless you just NPC and that can be profitable but honestly a bit boring.

Crafts are great to have but making a lot of gil is not easy and requires plenty of your time but profits are definitely tangible. Over the last few months I have made almost 10mil gil without even trying. Just looking for crap at the AH to buy/craft/resell whenever I'm free. No AH camping required. It did, however, require a ton of synths and a lot of running around towns to buy other mats, etc. Not something that's super fast.

Crafting is still profitable if you know what you're doing, but there's no need for profit. Heck, I can even make decent gil pretty quickly with Alchemy.

I'm getting my mule 98->100 Clothcraft anyway just because! Maybe some day we will need gil again!

@ CC99.3 and never do much with it, i guess i could do toolz but i am too lazy :P Sell useless gear you find in gold chest sell fast to npc and do as much gil i could do with my CC99. idk imo is pretty dead compare what it used to be.

At 75 I knew a lot of 100+6 crafters that didn't do much with their craft. Whether or not you use it is up to you, but not using it guarantees it won't be very profitable for you.

I love to craft always have, but I like the solo aspect of it.
Like when you want to be alone and you set time to craft you go farm items and then craft them and sell them either to Npc or on ah whichever is most profitable. years ago could make 5-6 mil in about 4 hours of effort now need full day to make half that.

I do not like synergy mainly because it seems to need you to have multiple high level craft (more people) to make and as I said before I like to craft alone. I don't really know much about synergy so I might be wrong in my statement.

They could do as one already suggested to remove the sub-craft limits or raise them to like 75.

It would be great to have the subcrafts caps lifted. Not sure what the purpose is because we can just make another on another mule but its inconvenient. I would like to be able to just use all my crafts without having to shift materials around to various mules. For instance. I make alchemy stuff on my alchemy mule now. Then I send the materials and product off to my goldsmithing mule to make/skill up on for her. If my gold smither needs blacksmithing items I have to go to my blacksmithing mule to make that then send it to my goldsmither. For shehei I can fish off one send stuff to alchemy mule send ink to ww er which happens to be my main then make the shehei. What purpose does that serve in game mechanics? Wouldnt it make just as much sense to just have it all on one?
If SE doesnt want to change all that well ok but it really would be more fun. Oh and I would still need the mules to store materials on after crafting is done so there is no loss of income for SE.

Yeah I have one mule for a craft and another just to hold supplies for that craft so it can get messy at times. if had all crafts on one char then would eliminate a whole set of mules. I built fame up on the mules to maximize the storage capacity.
Se would lose a little cash from me if they did that so I don't see that happening.

I've always wanted to, but never started crafting. But I'm wondering which to take up first or to make my "main". Cloth, Leathercraft or Cooking?

I can't speak for those who have taken a craft to 100, but having both Cooking and Alchemy at 60 (food sells well and meds used to..not sure nowadays), Cooking was definitely quick and profitable if you played your cards right. Since you're level 90, you'll be able to easily farm your own crystals (which saves more money than you'd think). Just make sure to hold onto your materials and finished products, as some products are used as synthesis materials later on. I'd suggest following a guide or doing a lot of research so that you're not stymieing your progress by throwing away or NPC'ing something you'd want in a few levels, and make sure to note the location of the regional vendors, because they'll supply you with cheaper ingredients.

Also, if you plan on taking Cooking to 100, you may also want to look into leveling your Fishing skill. ^^

Anyone with a 100ish craft should just lvl Synergy, its easy, more fun and can be good gil. Noobs are terrible at Synergy so there is never a real threat to the market. Almost all the synergy synths are profitable as well. (atleast on Cerb) Juogi and Grim were bread and butter for months, I'm sure more will head in that direction.
