View Full Version : Please fix this SE
I've spoken about this before, but I think it needs to be mentioned again, as it's a real problem I think Square Enix needs to fix, and the sooner the better.
Equipment Swapping during battle
This has become a very big part of Final Fantasy's gameplay, and I think it needs to be improved.
1. They need to fix the annoying "blink" effect that occurs when changing equipment that has a visual impact on the character. This cancels your current target and is very annoying, especially if you are trying to heal the person. Either make the player unable to change gear during battle or stop this annoying side-effect from happening.
2. Add an option to the configuration menu that allows players to filter out the equipment change note in your battle log. It drives me nuts how changing gear often to improve my performance floods by battle log with this useless message, causing me to miss important changes in the battle.
It would be a very bad thing to remove blinking completely. The option to turn it off would be preferable.
The option to do this; I would welcome it, if it's possible. :)

Agree with #2 there, but #1 can be avoided w/ <stpt> and <stal> ( i think it's stal)

PS2 Limitations. It doesn't have the memory to load the armor models into memory in real time and switch them. It needs to remove your existing one first, then load the new one.

Supporting this.
Also, it would be awesome to have a function to keep a certain set of gear worn regardless of what you have equipped. Some strong pieces of gear look terrible while weak pieces look awesome.

This can only be fixed on the PC version I think (3rd party tools)--possibly the XBox if they changed the code, but it is currently a restriction of the game engine/ps2 limitations.
menu -> disable graphic gear swap -> On/Off
even possible to add this to PS2 =/

I'm behind this. Although I know a lot of mage characters will use the blinking to their advantage, especially scholars with the use of so many JA. Some blinking technique to prevent spell-lock or something like that...I forget.

It's not a matter if they can add an extra option in the menu, it's the fact the PS2 is hardcoded to "need" to blink, because of RAM/programing issues.

<stpt> <stal>
There's NO EXCUSE, NONE, since April 2008.
If you die because a mage tells you you change gear too often you explain <stpt> and <stal>. If they refuse, you kick that mage, and you get a new one.

You HAVE to be joking, please tell me you are joking???? What would be the point in even having this thing called macros available to us then, if we're unable to change gear during battle??? And please stop using the "mages can't cure me because I blink" excuse, and stop playing with mages.

10% of mages use <stal>. It's freaking sad. When I would play PLD before SE retired it for me, there was a certain mithra WHM that used to actually curse me out in tell for changing gear. I explained <stal> to her and about how it would solve her problem 95% of the time. She continued using <st> for at least 2 months before I decided it would be best to just drive her completely insane so whenever she was my WHM I spammed my cure set macro the whole fight. Unfortunately more often than not I would just die because she couldn't cure me and I would be replaced by a tank who also didn't know about <stal> and refused to change visible gear. =(

The OP never stated that you shouldn't change gears...just wanted the blinking effect off when ya do. Try reading a lil more carefully before ya rage.

You need to go re-read OP's post.

That's Asura for you, where the players think FFXI is srs business. It's still an ambigious text though, if he interprets it that way, let him.

The amount of people I see both on this forum and even in game, using the "I don't gearswap because then I blink and mages can't cure me" and "it's your own fault you died, I couldn't cure you because you blink too much!" is AMAZING. And not in a good way. It could be a valid excuse 3 years ago. But not now.
It doesn't make me rage, it makes me facepalm so hard my hand hurts. The ignorance is overwhelming.
I personally use <stal> as mage, but this issue is still annoying, that blink also cause a problem when you 'lock target' on a player. There also frustrating situation where you tab-tab-tab (like searching bazar) and baam someone switched gear and you have to restart all over again. of course there a way around to avoid this, but still annoying, you camp NM and tab tab tab, NM spawn, your TAB hit someone that change gear and baam you loose claim, again you could have use F8 or mouse... I mean is more then only <stal> <stnpc>.
Just god thanks monster in game don't swap gear too ><

having played both sides, i gotta say this. mages, put <stal> in your macros, seriously. there really is no excuse why you cant cure someone whos gear swapping. i duobox tank and heal in alliance all the time, and i usually dont have the luxury of having both my toons in the same party. its not that tough.

Avoid the 'remove relics' thread or you'll run your palm through your head.

I blink a tons and mage in my PT complain too, they never let me die, they just piss off that all, i think they main annoyance is all about they can't lock target on me and cure quick, i even see them make special macro just for me, i guess that work too, but ...

PS2 may be responsible for the blinking, but not for the underlying problem. Simply don't lose the target when blinking, that is something SE can fix without hurting the fragile PS2. Blinking itself is a good thing imo and can be very useful (although probably not intended by the devs).
And 100% agreed on #2, "equipment changed" notifications are horribly annoying. No reason not to at least offer us the option to filter that out.

Sounds like those mages are really bad. Introduce them to <stpt> and <stal>. If they can't use those, get new mages.

i know that there are 3rd party programs that take care of this also. i believe it combines all the equip changes into 1 gear change message. but, thats also a 3rd party program, and a nono.

I think from the day the game came out in the US there has been not excuse for this the <p0-5> has been there. and I don't know when they added the <a10-15> top alliance and <a20-25> for second alliance but its there to so there is no reason for you to miss a cure. yes it can take up a lot of macros but with 10 sets of 10 macros for each job I think we have the room.
As a career mage (and a WHM main in particular) I have to say that this has been a non-issue since the addition of <stpt> <stal>. Seriously, there is absolutely no reason to complain about healing people who are gear-swapping at this point.

It is hard to get a single point across in that thread without someone going 'get over it, 75 gear should not have relevence in a 90 world.' It has nothing to do with wanting old gear to be good (I.E. abjurations, HNM gear, sky/sea gear, etc) but gear that took a ton of effort to be made being shadowed by empys which take little to no time. I just state I want them to have a relative boot to make them comparable to empy, and people go ludicrous >.>.

yeah, the margian trials for the relic weapons were total fail. they couldve done so much more. and they also could have made them lvl up on par w/ emps. wonder why they didnt?

LOL I find this annoying as well, I might mention it and if I got the response you gave I wouldn't bring it up again and you die because I couldn't cure you its now your fault...
Besides the blinking only becomes and issue when some has like 4 pages of gear swapping in like 20 seconds.

This subject doesn't belong in this thread at all - for what it's worth I hope SE will make relic weapons #1 again by 99, just for the sheer time and effort relic owners have put into their weapons.
But let's leave it at that, the "get rid of relics"-thread shouldn't be bleeding any more into this thread. :/

To me, I think the blinking needs to go. I play on the 360 and that in itself presents a problem since I'm on a controller more then on the keyboard, and a short wired keyboard at that. So to use the tab button causes me to drop my controller grab the keyboard to use the macro with stal in it, tab through the party until I get the one to cure, and then cure them. Thats a second or more time wasted, and the possible death of someone in the party. Plus the limitations of the 360 when someone blinks is annoying. Even before 14 came out and the servers quieted down, I can be say in Dragon's Aery with 30+ people and a ton of lag....And while using STAL the tank blinked for gear changes, and I could not even tab to target them....And I was standing right next to them when they gear changed. It took several seconds for them to reappear to the point that I could target them, and my pointer was pointing to the ground and no body was there for up to a minute later. Same thing in Besieged, Dyna, and any place else that had a lot of lag. So STAL is not the total answer because I still use it today....It just does not work for 360 users when there is a lot of lag. So I personally gave up and my macros now say "/ma "Cure V" "Person's name" because that was the only way I could cut through the blink/Lag problem and keep the party alive...But life would be easier if I didnt have to constantly swap between the controller and the keyboard just to cure someone because they blinked to change gear.

When you use <stal>, you do not need to tab. You can scroll up and down the party list with the Arrow keys. I believe this also works with the controller's D-Pad, but as I play on PC I could not confirm that for you.
