I have just came back a month a go from a 2.4year break and I was very excited when I came back to see all the people. But here lies the problem most of the people I am seeing are duo boxing. So even though the server says 2k+ players there are a lot of them being boxed.
I am a duo boxer myself but when I first came back I was only using 1 account until I found it imposable to get help with anything outside my link shell. Now mind you I have a awesome link shell but they cant help me with every thing nor should they. They have their own game to play.
All I want to do is find like minded people who want to do the same things that I want to do. I just bought a brand new 32" HDTV and 360 and FFXI disk for my box account. And what I am wondering is are all the servers the same full of duo boxers or is 1 server out there better then them all? Because I am willing to pay for a server transfer to move to a server where random people do things together.

define "a lot". 10%?
Relative to the total population, I seriously don't think it is all that common. You'll see a lot of the "power gamers" do it, sure.

I put it this way when ever I go into abyssa or any of the farming or any of the leveling zones I am always seeing duo boxers everywhere.
I just wanted to add that I did see some shouts for people looking to do stuff tonight. But I was on earlier then I usually play.

It's more than a tenth of a percent.
None of us can say but I could believe that 10% of the people playing everyday have a dualbox account. It was disgustingly useful in abyssea.
Minkin and easily obtainable refresh gear (or less powerful atmacites in vw) made it silly not to have one. It was JUST LIKE having an adventuring fellow capped, except that you could call it anywhere, you could gear it, you could have it all the time, you could store things on it and mule things with it, and it didn't waste mp seeing if it could land the enfeeble the mob resisted the last 15 times.
I had one, most of my friends had/have one. People db'd in voidwatch all the time (and then screamed when the whm mule got the rare/ex drop they wanted for main).

There's atleast 1 person in every Voidwatch party dual boxing for items. You see them in WoE, Dyna, Abby etc.
One time I saw one person controlling 6 characters killing king behemoth >.> you could tell because after he finished you can see him group 1 character at a time in a corner and then log off 1 character at a time.
Lol I went to Gusgen mines and joined a party, didn't even know the person leading was dualboxing 5 characters until he had to leave and started warping all his characters...we had to disband and end the party because he pretty much took 75% of the party with him.

That's all circumstancial though, and doesn't really give any hard numbers on how much of the player base dualboxes.

Everyone who matters twoboxes~ (or tri/quad/octoboxes)
(oh the hate this will bring!)
At least a quarter of the active population is 2boxed accounts (active means not level 1 mules and fishbots). No actual fact to back this up, but based on seeing/knowing/hearing, this sounds at least approximately accurate.

On Fenrir, two and three boxing seem very common. When I have joined a group, I don't think I've ever had one where at least one person, often more are two boxing. I used to love whm, so it's sad for me to see pocket whms, but it seems to be pretty much the norm generally.

Well, then you should get a LS!
And then the dualboxers insist on a pearl for each of their characters, so that half the LS is just one person anyway.

Believe it or not I've seen this a few times. Kinda sad :(

Of course, the greatest advantage of dualboxing.
- you never miss things while zoning!
Not to mention, if you are just soloing, you can keep an eye on up-to-the-second shouts.

I do have a awesome link shell but I would also like to make friends with people outside the link shell. But its kind of hard to do when I next to never see skill up parties, abyssa always falls apart after a few hrs at best and most duo boxers are not very friendly. About the only thing I see groups for is the new expansion and since I don't have a delve weapon I am sol. How ever I am fine with playing in the old world if I can find people to play with. At the moment I have been finding stuff I can duo box but duo box is only fun for so long.
