We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions. With these energy saving measures in place, we will be able to bring our servers back online

I just wanted to say thank you to the SE employees for enduring this.

Although I'm excited for the return of FFXI, reading that SE won't have air conditioning in order to bring it back really broke my heart.
Anyone who has ever spent any part of the summer in Japan knows that this is a real sacrifice. The heat and humidity is really overpowering... I really hope that by the time summer comes around, the air conditioning can be on all the time at the office.

Thank you, SE employees.

Yeah, it's a shame, but current temperatures in Japan are relatively good without AC at the moment, and I only hope when the time comes when the employee's actually need it, the power situation will be sorted out. :)

Anyone who has spent the summer in Japan knows this isn't summer in Japan, but the token is appreciated. I hope they get power back to normal before summer.

Yes that is very generous of them. I bet the have also had to give up their cafeteria but we have just not been told this. I am very happy that the servers will be back up, but did not expect the employees having to sacrifice things to make this possible.

As the OP said, Thank You SE Employees. Your contribution for our needs surpasses anything we could do to help you.

Its not a token if it is what gets the game back online. Considering translation errors I would be guessing that they are referring to their air temperature control system, hot and cold both. While I would not like to think they are going to work in a cold building it very much sounds like that is exactly what they are saying.

Since it doesn't look like it's going to top 58 this week in Japan, that might be the AC for the servers. At least I hope it isn't.

A thread I can agree with for once! Thanks for giving up alot just so we can enjoy the game again.

Enduring what? The ocean is like 100 feet from my window, it's winter time, and I have no heating. When summer comes I'll also have no air conditioning. The majority of anyone who's ever experienced lower class living has dealt with the same thing on a daily basis. It's not really that big of a deal. I'm glad the servers are coming back up, but no AC isn't really that wild.

Problem with translation between japanese and english is that we always have understanding each other errors. I doubt very much that they would turn off AC for servers if it is needed. They might sacrifice comfort but they can not afford to endanger the servers in anyway or the business would have big troubles on top of the big troubles they have to already have to deak with now.

You are not in a room with who knows how many other people. People generate heat. Sometimes way to much heat.

I must say I have played/loved this game for 9yrs or so with little time off from it during that time. For you guys to do this says something, in my mind at least, about your commitment to your product. I love the idea of FFXI comming back online but, idk if the time is right yet. I can't imagine how hot a corporate building, filled with as much electronics as SE's should be, with no ac will get. I just hope it doesn't get so hot in there as to damage the people or equipment. Though I am by no means an expert, it's just a though. My prayers are still for the people in Japan, close personal friends and ones I have never met, alike. Thank you for the wonderfull drug called Final Fantasy, in all its iterations.

Large corporations sometimes use both AC and Heat at the same time. They do this all year round to keep the temperature very tightly controlled. It sounds to me like SE just cut the AC out and recalibrated the heat. They will have less exact temperature control, but it will still likely be comfortable.

You have no heating? I am sure that is your own decision. You can not site on a computer, using internet & pay to play a game & expect people to feel for you cause you have no heat. Sell all your belongings to get heat & if this is still not possible after that then I may be able to sympathize a little. But people who put their "entertainment" before necessities are just greedy & get zero support.

I wasn't asking for support was I? I was saying that going without AC is something poor people do quite often so it isn't really the end of the world.

between the ppl and the computers/servers giving off heat...I can see that cutting the AC would actually be a sacrifice...maybe not in the 1st day or 2 but eventually the computers would cause the place to heat up...that I say from experience...computers alone (1 computer) can give off quite a bit of heat...

so yeah I appreciate SE making the sacrifice of shutting off the AC and some of the lights to allow the energy needed for the servers to be back up
and actually...I told my husband that Fri was when I think we'd be able to get back on...and it looks like early Fri morning is it ^-^

yeah i guess. I have central air and could not live through the summer without it. I have a pool that i keep about 85-90 Degrees Celsius. I hardly went outside last summer (in Ontario, Canada) because of the heat & when I did it was a night time to go for a swim, then back inside to cool off.

I could honestly say that I would sell every toy I own if that is what I had to do in order to keep my Central Air. My comfort comes before pleasure, that is how I look at life. Poor people have things backwards. Too many times I see people with little money get a pay check/welfare check & they go to the bar, buy their drugs or go get new clothes. I do not fee sorry for them having no AC or anything. Wake up & decide what is important.

If SE is willing to cut AC & dim their lights then it is not really that important. They would not jeopardize the servers or company in a way that could cause harm to anything/anyone. It is nice to hear that they are going to reduce power elsewhere to compensate for the servers running. This is the first this SE has done right in a long time, bout time & I thank them for it.

Have you ever worked in office building with no AC. I have let me tell you it is a big deal AC is not just for cool air its the building air exchange system. Without AC even for one day the air in building will get very stale very fast and humidity will be almost unbearable. So cool it and be glad we have a tentative date now when we can play game again. SE could have just said sry servers will be down till full power is restored which in all likelihood will be months from now.

Thank you, SE employees
This is good news :)

Thanks SE... you're the best (I'm not being sarcastic, honest!)

When the heating broke at the office I used to work at we downed tools and went home as it was 14C inside. More recently my place of work had a power failure and the lights and heating went off... again we moved to another place. So I /kneel to your commitment to getting the servers back up.

Also as they are still there I assume that they have been working on *something* while the servers are down so maybe we will benefit in the quality of future content.
