View Full Version : Adjustments needed to nearly / literally unbeatable quests

The following quests are nearly unbeatable due to the following reasons: massive difficulty level in exchange for minimal reward; impossible to accept one of the following quests if the others are active; impossible to help others unless the same specific version of the quest is active for all participants; impossible to cancel any of the following quests in order to help others; these quests are still level-capped despite the nearly worthless rewards:
Eco-Warrior (Bastok)
Eco-Warrior (San d'Oria)
Eco-Warrior (Windurst)
The following quest is truly the mark of a hardcore FFXI player for no logical reason at all and for nearly no reward:
All By Myself: it is not necessary for this to be the most hardcore, incredibly difficult quest in the game aside from "Duties, Tasks, and Deeds." Provenance Watcher, Carbuncle Prime, and the Ark Angels have never had anything on Ken. Due to the level limit, MP issues and death are guaranteed threats to players. Additionally, Ken's behavior is foolish and erratic, and his sight range is out-of-this-world. This quest can be remedied by removing the level cap, preventing a high-level player from receiving aggro or running out of MP.
The following quests are nearly unbeatable due to Chocobo fatigue and the length of the quests; this may be remedied by substantially reducing the rate of fatigue:
Desert Rain II (Attohwa)
Ward Warden II (Attohwa)
*I personally would very surprised if more than 10 players across all servers have managed to complete both of these chocobo quests in Abyssea - Attohwa.
The following quest is literally unbeatable once the player has reached a certain point in the game:
The Gustaberg Tour: Once the player has reached level 5 with all 22 jobs, this quest is impossible to complete. This issue could be remedied by raising the required level for the quest to level 10 so that level sync can be used, preventing this from being the only quest in FFXI that is literally and absolutely unbeatable after certain game progress.
Edit: I'm not just *****ing and whining: I've completed all of these quests except the chocobo ones in Attohwa. These quests are possibly the most unbalanced things in the game, and it's not the fun type of "imbalance." It's real imbalance.

You can cancel the Eco-warrior quests though by telling the npc in town to go shove it. I think the next set of quests that could be on this list are the teamwork ones. It's was hard to complete years ago, but now it's even harder because most people in sandy are afk. Good luck finding 5 people from the 2 other cities in Sandy or of the same race as you. The job one is easy but you have to actually get to that one.
Another one might be the subligar quest with a certain bastokian girl. Some of the armor she asks for can be hard to find or find the items to have someone synth them. Also her Abyssea quest if your sick enough to repeat it could be just as bad.

Good luck even UNLOCKING some of the Campaign Ops (Counting them since it does track which ones you complete). As far as I know, I'm the only person to have even attempted "By Light of Fire".

Unless something got changed in an update w/o a note - I've never been able to cancel Eco-Warrior. And have asked for that on this forum at least once.

As far as all by myself goes, it's pretty easy if you have someone not on the quest claiming every mob in his path

I've tried that, but there are so many dozens of monsters that can get in his way that deaggro, despawn, and respawn is guaranteed if the holder attempts to claim in advance.
Also, Ken himself aggroes monsters (they don't just aggro him), meaning the holder must claim EVERYTHING in the paths Ken walks, not just aggressive monsters.
To try to effectively preempt ALL his actions during the course of the quest is too difficult because if his path is unimpeded, he's fast. Having a higher level player help is certainly a boon, but Ken always finds a way to pull a monster out of his *** and get beaten to within an inch of his life.
Still, I did beat this quest, and the time that I FINALLY did it was one of the times that I played it straight: no high-level help. Just practice, memorization, and MP recovery items.

I had accidentally gotten the windy one and re-talked to the npc in waters and was able to get into a cancel option

I agree SE needs to update these quest. The Gustaberg Tour quest, they could keep it at is it, just add some kind of item or a ??? you click on in the zone that will reduce the players lvl to the min needed to complete the quest.

So I just remembered another quest most people can't complete any more due to no one does the event(s) that drop items for the quest and that would be the mannequin quest. Since no one at least on shiva does garrison any more which drops parts of one's mannequin.

Actually the garrison in Vollbow (Cape Teriggan) is soloable for mannequin parts since there is no level cap there.

I have Bastok flagged, and finally remembered to go back to quest giver to try this. No cancel option. Are you sure you cancelled an Eco-Warrior and not an Escort mission?

SE needs to update a lot of things. Older content isn't getting any newer and newer content is making it even older. The diversity of what makes this game has all but died each expansion. The latest one makes it extremely obvious how poorly things are being thrown to the curb as old content loses relevant and abandoned.

Yes I think you have to talk to them twice in a row. Once to get them to remind you and then again should be a slightly different response. It was a while back so maybe they ninja changed it.

Does it drop all of the parts the scant few bcnms that drop the rest don't drop?

I did talk to ger twice. Three times actually because talking to NPCs over and over again is ingrained in me. She just kept telling me to go to Gusgen.

It only drops mannequin legs and feet. The once a week "ENM" Uninvited Guests is also soloable and has a small chance to drop any of the parts I believe (though I'm starting to wonder if it broke after like one month of nothing but XP scrolls).

Yeah, I got several mannequin parts from Uninvited Guests. I used to do that every week when they first uncapped Promathia areas.

I must say... I'm definitely no fan of Ken!
Marin, on the other hand... oh yeah, now I remember why I went through it all!
It sure was an experience, and even though I did the babysitting of him some ages ago already, and helped a bunch of others get through it as well, it's still vivid in my mind. It's one of those old things that I always thought as something that could, and should have been adjusted, but with the resources and interests of the developers that we have... yeah, maybe some day, somewhere.
I agree with the notion on the tour as well. I did rather randomly end up doing it before getting all my jobs above the level, but I still very much agree that it should be adjusted.
The Ego— I mean Eco Warrior(s) I never bothered with for pretty much the reason stated. It's difficult, and for all the wrong reasons.
Resistance Ops... I did some, but they're definitely not high on my priority list. Even so, I can say that several of them could indeed use adjustments.
Campaign Ops fall towards the above group, although I have done a good bunch of them, if not most of them, at least once. It might actually be easier for me to do them now, as it used to be very difficult to coax anyone to join me for the minimum of 3. I shall do that the next time I can enter that part of Vana'diel!
Another part that still is annoying me to no end, is the need for credits. Just like Assault tags, they're uncool, not fun, and did I mention annoying?
I was always disappointed to see how much they would rather create new and forget the old... It's weird, considering the limitations the game has to deal with.
So much lost potential...
In very short, I agree that these, and other quests with similar difficulties should be adjusted. Just like adjustments on wait time between missions and such, perhaps we get something done to these as well... just in due time.
(Yay for getting logged out while posting and being indefinitely unable to log back in.)

So I went and got Sandy's Eco-warrior quest and so far have not been able to get it unquested. Though on my one time I got it undone I was in a party so maybe that had something to do with it. Not done testing/trying yet.
