Critical Chop, smash, etc. KI: Bugged or working as intended?

I acquired the Critical chop KI awhile ago, and I've noticed that each time it procs I get nothing. Does anyone know if these KIs actually aid in getting rare items or was it a troll the entire time designed to make us waste Bayld? I'm aware that we operate based on luck, but I've had this thing for quite some time now, and every time it procs I get nothing. At this point I'm assuming it was put in by SE to troll anyone who thought it would actually do something in our favor.

I've gotten stuff on criticals (yay, Flintstone), but mostly you get nothing. At least they managed to fix the garbled text.

Troll confirmed, I got a Critical chop this morning and my rare material was a Lauan Log. Floor's log collection is getting pretty big.

If it was a shard, those are flagged rare so that might be why you missed it. Don't hold on to them to pop a mob later, unless you aren't doing anything else. (Can always put them in dbox or sell/buy on AH.)

What is you over-all field buff? Torque, Rope, Gathering items, and KI, Trailblazer(bayld bought tools)?

While Bayld has other priorities now, I'm planning on finishing my mining stuff, but I'm curious to see how much of a difference you see when you stack the gathering buffs to max.... knowing this game.. maybe a marginal decrease of 2-3% of pick waste.. and 300% uptick in flint and pebbles.. (i know OP is logging, but I only know the bite of a pickaxe against rock)

I log about 2-3 stacks of hatchets per day, which i guess isn't much, and have all 6 HELM KI. I'm noticing the same "errors" as everyone else, and also noticing that breaks are far more frequent in Adoulin than anywhere else. I'm hoping this is fixed, because I do not consider a lauan log "high quality". On a side note, I DID get a Faithfuls Torso I once in ceizak. No HQ message, just a log then the skirmish piece.

I wonder if the HQ message has anything to do with the Gathering Status for a zone. You can raise it by doing Gather:x tasks, and check it's status in the Scouts' Coalition.

Forgive the resurrection of this, but I figured someone might want to know a little more about them.

I've done significant amount of gathering at this point with the use of the gathering items obtained through Bayld:

Regular gathering enhancements I use: Worker's Tunica, Worker's Gloves, Worker's Boots, Field Torque (rope still eluding me).

* Trailblazer Pickaxe
* Trailblazer Sickle
* Dredge Hose (Mining Leg)
* Agrarian Boots (Harvesting Feet)
* Ionis on (I know Pioneers can sway the effects of gathering, and Ionis is needed to obtain the other combat based enhancements so I have that on always as well. I don't know if the colonization efforts just make the zone gathering behave differently, or I need the Ionis to get the benefit, but I go with it any how.)

And Both KI for Pickaxe, and Sickle.

Effects of the Bayld purchased tools is very pronounced:

* The break rate is much lower, but they still break, just less compared to the gathering tools available through Gil purchases.

* The amount of Fatigue you get is higher when you begin gathering in a zone with Trailblazing tools. 22 Fatigue after first swing of a Trailblazer, if you use a regular pickaxe immediately after, your fatigue will drop to 19.

* Since the amount of gathering time I have spent has been with as many gathering buffs as possible, I do not know how much this scales compared to someone using no enhancements at all, and a regular tool.

Key Items :

* Cherished tool is nice when it saves me 500 bayld, and I have had some spotty success with it, but it does not 'proc' frequently enough for my tastes, but every little bit helps in the world of mining and material profit margins.

* Critical gathering is not really giving the level of reward I would anticipate. My most favorite example is:

Critical!
You got Nothing!
Your Trbl. Pickaxe broke!

I have gotten Orich. Ore, and Flint on the scale of actual rewards while mining, and getting an actual critical success, and only once while harvesting did I get a Skirmish piece.

And hooray for Titanium Ore ^.^b Any other insights are appreciated.

Trailblazer tools have a 15% reduction in fatigue, which is why you can use them 23 times in a row vs 20 times with regular tools.
Also, I don't think Field/Worker gear has any effect in Ulbuka. If it did, the new gear would align with the 'holes' in the Field/Worker set, which it only does for mining.

We spoke to the development team to get a better understanding of the "Critical Chop" key item. When you receive a critical notification, it does increase the chance that you will receive a rare material, but it is not a guarantee that you will obtain one.

As a result, it's still possible to get an NQ item or even miss when you receive a critical notification. This is the intended design for this key item.
