I've tried both modes, DirectInput and X-Input, and nothing seems to work. I can use the gamepad in PlayOnline but not in FFXI. I tried messing around with the config and it's just not picking up anything from the gamepad.

Just a few questions to rule a few things out:

Is it responding properly in the Windows Game Controllers snap in (go to the properties for the controller and you will have a testing panel)?

Have you enabled and assigned buttons to the actions within FFXI Config? Just want to make sure you aren't trying to configure the controller just in the Logitech software, you have to assign actions to the buttons in the FFXI Config tool so the game responds properly. If it is responding properly in the Windows Game Controllers snapin, you should be able to assign actions to each of those controls in FFXI Config.

It's an older guide for different Logitech models, but this may help you walk you thorugh it:
http://www.wingmanteam.com/files/documents/webfaqs/wmgamehelp/Game_Specific_Issues/Final_Fantasy_XI.htm

It may be a bit drastic, but I've had to do this with some games in the past as a last resort with some controllers in years past---change it to use a standard controller type instead of the branded model detected. Add a device manually to the list in the Game Controllers snap-in (click the "Add" button), and choose an appropriate description from the list, and then set it as the preferred device. You may have to fiddle with it some to find one that enables all the buttons and such.

i think they broke a few things in the 04/29/13 update. my f710 doesn't work since the update(works in ffxi config app but not game). and all chat filters are reset.

It's not working at all in the FFXI config. Tried using the test button and nothing was happening at all. Worked perfectly fine in the POL config, it recognised I had a F310 gamepad, and using the gamepad in POL works just fine. As soon as it goes into FFXI it stops registering the gamepad.

i got mine working again by unplugging my Nostromo keypad... seems if theres more than 1 controller plugged in there's a chance it will try to use the wrong one. possibly fixed by making the right controller default in windows. at least thats my theory. don't know who's decision it was to allow you to choose a controller in pol config but not ffxi config..

It would seem that the PlayOnline viewer I have installed from Steam is a US version and that FFXI (after using the patches) is EU. Because of this whenever I run the POL config it creates a US registry instead of an EU registry, and I wonder if this is causing the problems with the gamepad not working.

Given the information you have just provided we would like to know where you reside as this may clarify the issue between the NA version of the viewer and the EU version of the game.

Whoops, better late than never, can often never find these topics since there's no way to track or subscribe to them. I'm in the UK.

Check under <wheverver steam is installed>/Steam/steamapps/common/ffxi/SquareEnix/FFXI/ folder.

In there there should be multiple folders labelled "Tools", one for each region. Try configuring your pad from the config exe under ToolsEU and see if that fixes your gamepad issue.

Its working for me, sometimes the l2, r2 doesnt act as a normal button but rather movement instead.

I have two different ones, one is normal the other one is rumble, oddly enough, one detects L2,R2 the way I want it to be where the l2 to hide the screen stuff, the other one for rest, the other controller, cant assign to it.

The rumble is working fine now.

Ever tried to install the proper drivers for the OS your using?

If that dont work, ever tried installing the newest directx files?

I have been using that one since it's an EU install, although the SoE expansion was US and had to be patched up to be compatible with EU version.

As far as I'm aware there is nothing else after directx 11 and I've had that for a very long time, and there hasn't been any updates for the official F310 drivers since 2010.

I did a bit of mucking about uninstalling and reinstalling divers in case there was any conflict with old devices that had been plugged in the past. I just ran the profiler now at the same time as FFXI. During POL both the profiler and POL recognised the key presses. As soon as I got to the FFXI Terms of Service screen the gamepad was not registering, however the profiler was recognising the key presses.

Does Windows recognize it as an F310 or some flavor of Dual RumblePad? (The latter is preferable.)

Does the controller work in testing in the Final Fantasy XI Config program?

No it doesn't work in the config. The profiler recognizes it as a Logitech Dual Action USB. I don't know what Windows recognizes it as, it just thinks it's a Logitech Virtual Hid Device.

I suspect that FFXI registered a mouse I once had plugged in as being a gamepad and won't recognise the F310 in the config. Is there a way to force FFXI to reset it so I can switch to the F-310 gamepad? It's a Belkin n52te mouse with 14 additional buttons for hotkeying macros.

Took a hint from somewhere, deleted every HiD device on my machine and uninstalled all drivers, rebooted, plugged them in again and started up FFXI config... it worked! However it now no longer works in POL, lol! I can live without it in POL but I'm glad it's working in FFXI now.
