Also now that I have a post here, should fix a few BLU spells. Bad Breath and 1000 needles are iconic spells for BLU through the series and they are terrible in this game. Huge MP cost is unwarranted and should be lessened drastically.

Agreed, BLU is very powerful. Job balance is probably better than it has ever been in the game but blu is just so much more fun.
Also, 1000 needles is probably our worst individual spell.

I agree, I honestly don't have many problems with BLU in its current state. I love it, I think the only recommendation outside of adjusting a few current spells(1k needles, bad breath) is introducing more buff spells (such as mighty guard) and make our cures able to target outside party.

Yeah, BLU needs a protect/shell spell and Mighty Guard would be perfect. Another thing I think should be changed is the timer on setting blue magic spells.

I totally agree with the Protect/Shell form of spells.. I'm also wondering why BLU never had access to Re-Raise cos since BLU meant to be a versatile job....
Funny enough talking about 1000 needles.... had to try and proc it earlier in abyssea and man it was annoying :(

I don't think any mobs in the game use an actual ability that gives reraise. The only mobs are the corpselight in Tahrongi Abyssea and Aern type mobs, but those are more traits I would think and not actual abilities they use.

Also, they should give us something like Crystal Shield (Protect) or Bubble Curtain (Shell). Shinryu already has Mighty Guard and it's way too good to give to BLU without making it useless (a novelty legacy spell like 1000 Needles and Bad Breath). Or Scissor Guard (+100% defense instead of the +50% from Cocoon - probably with an obscenely high MP cost and/or recast, though). More buffs or debuffs would definitely be welcome since I doubt we'll get anything to top the DD spells we've got now. A real f'ing Paralyze spell would be great, especially one with a proc rate as good as EVERY MONSTER WITH A PARALYZE ABILITY EVER. And god I can't wait for more set points at 91.
On topic: if not the best job, definitely one of the more fun ones to play.

Yeah a nice Paralyze spell would be awesome, sub-zero smash sucks :/. I would hope if they added something like Mighty Guard, which is a iconic spell, they would go along the route of Battery Charge and change its use instead of gimping it like 1k needles and bad breath. Battery charge was initially a small mp recovery for pots and they changed it to refresh, they could change Mighty Guard from regain+heal to protect+shell :/?

The blue magic spell setting timer drives me crazy especially in Abyssea where is pretty much the only time I don't just set and forget lol. The yellow proc spells need some love I feel so gimped whenever I have to load most of them and I just gave up on 1000 misses...

I agree the timer for resetting spells is annoying and should be reduced considerably or all together. I think just having the change them out is punishment enough no need for the /wait.

Yeah, but I think another problem would be that only one mob in the entire game uses it, and he's in a BCNM that requires you to defeat 15 Abyssea NMs. Then again, they made BLUs struggle through CoP to get spells there, so it wouldn't be the first time. Still don't see it happening, though.
Regarding the spell timer, it's a necessary evil. Given the huge pool of spells BLU has, it'd be kind of cheap if we could swap them around with only 30 seconds or so on the cooldown. Especially in Abyssea where MP is barely an issue. I would love it, though, if they made it so you could save certain spell sets, or at least macro them or something. The time you'd save digging through menus would make the 60-second cooldown bearable.
I also hate having to reset all my spells if I decide to go DRG/BLU or RDM/BLU for something. But at least now you don't have to reset them every time you change jobs!

As for Reraise for BLU, I actually thought that the Archaic Gear(s) "Restore" would work well.
Instead of just a self-heal, alter it to grant Reraise similar to how Battery Charge became refresh, it would make sense considering that gears using it resurrect one of the 3 that "died".

Blue Mage: it's what Red Mage was originally supposed to be!
The spell slot changing no-casting timer is annoying, but it's critical for balance because without it we could just swap spells mid-battle all the time, which would defeat the entire purpose of slotting spells at all. And I think it's safe to say that if a Blue Mage could have every spell they know slotted simultaneously, Blue Mage would be more overpowered than Ranger before the Ranged Attack Update. (And that's bad.)
As for spells it would be nice to have... well, I just have to wonder if Shinryu would be susceptible to Level 5 Petrify....

I was just thinking that the other day, wouldn't it be great if we could macro our proc set for abyssea, and then switch to a solo/party set. It get annoying having to siphon through 100+ spells to find the one you want. Sets with spells so we don't have to memorize each combo to build the traits we want.
I would also like to see a protect/shell spell.

Ya I think if SE is going to give DNC the ability to heal outside of party, why the hell not give BLU the ability to do the same. That would again increase our usefulness in a pinch when healers are dropping like flies or not really on the ball. I think a macro pallet for spells would be beneficial, although the spell cool down is still going to be 60 seconds, at least your not spending 1-2 minutes sifting through all of your spells to get the ones you desire for the task at hand. I think SE should invest its time in giving BLU at least 3 spell macro pallets within the spell setting screen. This would greatly improve the job, and yet not break it by leaving the cool dwon in place. I'm all about physical spells, so I would still like to see something with a bit more juice, 3.0 STP and 75% STR modifier, I wanna see it SE! A Paralyze II type spell would be cool from Sub-Zero Smash (which is a good spell I mind you) but I feel that would step on some RDM toes there. Mostly what I would love to see is buff spells that affect Def. This way tanking can be more explored with BLU, god knows I pull hate all the damn time on my BLU with the damage output I can do. A curaga III would be interesting also, but ya I really wanna see more tanking style buffs for BLU, there are so many possibilites, but there are also so many ways SE can f*ck them up namely Battery Charge..... I still resent that update. I mean really? 1 tic goin to break the job, even after they gave RDM Refresh II!? C'mon! I even had some BLU's tell me "Scuro why are you b**ching!? It's just 1 tic of MP!" Ummm ok for all you youngsters to the BLU ways, back in my day 1 tic of refresh was unheard of, and when Relic was getting released I said "dude they are going to give us refresh, just watch!" which people thought I was crazy for, but it happened. I also predicted one day we would get a refresh spell, and we did. Yet I digress, the whole point is, that 1 tic of refresh makes all the difference, especially to BLU's, those that played the job Pre-Battery Charge know that 1 tic is what makes the difference between a living BLU and a dead one. And although I love Reaving Wind's applications to NMs.... I hate that they totally twisted what it was supposed to be. It's not even close to the original mob spell of wind knock back, yet I can imagine that being annoying when your trying to fight something and you knock it back, but it would have practical uses in Magical Casting or even running away from a mob (kiting also).

I think Blaster would be a sweet new paralyze spell. Although might be to effective. once ur hit with blaster u can't do shit lol

IMO it's probably more likely we'd get something like Roar just because we already have two Coeurl spells. Roar is just as potent, but AoE and doesn't require the mob to look at you.

That's a silly thing to complain about, considering that even though they removed that 1MP/tic, they almost doubled the duration of it. Overall it restores exactly the same amount of MP as Refresh II (3/tic instead of 6/tic, but it lasts 5 minutes while Refresh II only lasts 2.5 to start). I would much, much rather have a 3MP/tic, 5-minute Refresh than a 4MP/tic 3-minute one, not even considering the MP saved by having to cast it a lot less. There was also an absolutely zero percent chance of BLU's Reaving Wind having the same effect as the mob version.

It would be interesting if Blue Mage had two set up for spells and like a Job ability on a five min timer where you could switch out one for the other and the normal delay for switching spells would effect one or both of the sets.
Also when Blue Mage came out I always wanted like a transparent or shadow image of the mob to actually use the spell when it was cast.

The reason why is because BLU uses MP differently then any other job, It uses it in fast succession and doesn't really have to slow down as a healer, BLM, SCH. With those particular jobs, that would make a lot of sense, but the way of returning MP the fastest is the best. Although it does compare well with Refresh II, I would rather get MP back quicker, then to have to b*tch and whine about having to cast the spell over again. I can't say I ever or heard anyone ever complain about having to recast the spell on themselves, and everyone loved the 4MP tic. There was really no reason to change it imo. And it is because of BLU's MP use vs other mages MP use that I feel a faster MP return vs more MP return is better for BLU.

You'll have to forgive me, but I don't think Blu needs much more added to it. Spells like protect/shell or rr would be a bit much. Blu is already the most powerful job. I see Blu solo about 10 IT mobs in 10 seconds. How many jobs can do that? Not saying they should nerf Blu, but they definately don't need more imo =)

well ther have been multiple mobs with the same move before (mandies + quadauv get headbutt goobue + opo-opo get blank gaze) they culd easily bring in a new mob with mighty guard or even just add mini versions of shinryu as a normal mob somewhere (mabe moblin maze mongers?)

BLU definitely still needs adjustments, its very good, no doubt, and yes it can solo SOME IT mobs (Definitely in Abyssea with Atma), but I would say its still a far cry from being complete in its possibilities, that much is for sure. The job is good, not great, if it were great, every body would be looking for a BLU for everything, BLU is mostly desired for Abyssea things because it can proc, not because of what it can really do (with some acceptions of course).

blue mage is the most EPIC job ever. one of the main reasons i started playing ffxi was because they added this job.
