What does that option do in the configuration panel? I have noticed no difference. I just joined the FFXI forums a few days ago (I am on the FFXIV Lodestone one, since I moved onto FFXIV but decided to come back to FFXI), so I am unaware if there was a question about this config option.

Also, I have also talked to my LS about the lack of ambient lighting in the PC version of the game. Devs, are there any plans to include ambient occlusion of some sort for FFXI on the PC? When I walk through San d'Oria, there is an extreme lack of ambient shadows for the whole area (and all other places). There are no shadows being cast by trees, benches, buildings, and the like. I know FFXI is 11 years old now, but if WoW has the option for ambient occlusion in their settings, why can't FFXI get it? To me, FFXI's lack of shadowing kind of makes the game look even more old...

What does that option do in the configuration panel? It's a setting that prevents certain issues with specific Nvidia video cards. It is not something you should be using unless you've been expereincing black screens/freezes/that sort of thing.

As for shadows, you have to change your shadow setting in the ingame config. set shadow to 'high' for realtime shadows on all characters/animate objects. Normal is realtime shadows on yourself and blob shadows on everything else. other than that, I'm not aware of any ambient lighting differences on the PC vs other clients, so you'd have to illustrate this with screenshots.

Graphics Stabilization really seems like something that should be labeled more clearly. It's not like the game quests where you're supposed to work with people (ie read the wiki) to figure it out; it's the bare essentials to make the game run.
Other than make Kepler GPUs more stable, what does it do? Why is it bad to run it on machines that don't need it? Why is it an option instead of just an overall change?

Shadows murder performance, btw. SE just isn't willing to do anything more than the bare essentials to keep this game running tech-wise.

It does exactly what it says- it increases graphics stability- there isn't room in the dialog for a long detailed description describing how only certain cards/drivers have the stability issue in the first place. However, people were asking for a solution to the problem, SE gave the solution, and described it in the version update notes that introduced it.

No they didn't.

A new graphics stabilization option has been added to the Etc. tab of the FINAL FANTASY XI Config program.
Not even a mention that it's for GeForce 600 series or anything until days later when got a little bit of info: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/29225-New-Graphics-Stabilization-optioin?p=387457#post387457
That's all I know has ever been said about it.

My point is, to quote what you said earlier:
It is not something you should be using unless you've been expereincing black screens/freezes/that sort of thing.
Why not? Does it change graphical quality? Affect performance? If not, why is it something you have to turn on at all instead of something permanently implemented?

Ambient occlusion? I'd rather they fix how the day/night cycle occurs in a single second at ..18:00 & 6:00 iirc on the spot.

SE mentioned it before it was released.

It's probably an option because it might have a detrimental effect if you're not using the hardware/drivers it's intended for. There's no benefit to using it unless you're having problems.

It was probably simpler for them to just add the toggle rather than use a detection mechanism, or because some people with the same hardware had the issue and others didn't.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Just don't touch things if you don't know what they do.
