View Full Version : Consequences of the attack-to-defense ratio has undergone adjustment

Anyone else having issues low manning stuff that was doable before the March 27th update to the attack-to-defense ratio adjustment?
I used to be able to duo Isgebind with THF and WHM using appropriate atmas safely, but now fail to it, using exact same strat that I've used many times before.
Salvage V2 also seems a bit tougher after the adjustment, which is made worse since at start we lack most gear/stats.
Anyone else have similar experiences?

In theory, if you don't use berserk nothing changed unless you fight a boss with high attack. Salvage starter mobs don't hit hard unless you start to berserk. The difference is notable once you start to use berserk though, especially on even the weakest NMs (like trolls on second floor in BR2). Basically, you are required to have a well geared WHM spamming cures on you if you want to use berserk on the bosses and NMs.

The salvage 2 HQ bosses, are doing just "@_@" style damage now, before this update the only time I ever died was an absolutely amazing trembling that mustve triple attack critted for 1900~
After this update, even miniscule attacks are doing 1500+ but if I've learned anything in 10 years of this game, it's that as long as the players aren't the ones with the advantage, it's not even worth complaining about, cause it's done, and won't be fixed (properly) for about 5 years. Give or take.

Just going to never again use berserk/counterstance on anything not an exp/fodder

No issues low manning stuff after update. We did make a few adjustments to our strategies for things but overall only minor impact so far.

I'm getting hit like a truck. But I haven't had a need for tank gear before now... guess I'll have to make a tank gear set....
Dang. Well back to the drawing board.

Were you on MNK when that happened?
Currently CS is a death sentence against anything remotely difficult. Berserk is just fine, make sure you have Protect V up though. Also your going to have to *gasp* invest in a "pure" PDT/MDT set and a hybrid TP/PDT set. You should be able to field ~25% for PDT and 40~45% for MDT (with shellra V) fairly easy. That will cut down on the super ZOMG death by a ton.

Are you seriously asking ME that question, I'm actually offended.
To even suggest that I don't have appropriate gear sets.
It says, right below the picture about counterstance.
All Ethuggin' aside, you're retarded if you think I don't have a full PDT MDT set hybrids etcetcetc.

I tend to be more conservative about using berserk now (if the enemy has shadow-wiping moves) and I've had no problems since the patch. I play a bit more defensively when I'm low manning now. Evasive gear, PDT gear, etc. Before this I just fought in TP gear and berserked every single time. I wait to see what kinds of numbers monsters are doing on me before I use berserk, and while I haven't done it yet, even using defender has entered my mind (If I'm on BLU I can throw cocoon up and be a lot more reckless)- I think it's a positive change myself. High end stuff like Legion probably isn't affected because people just stunlock everything but I do have to put a bit more consideration when doing smaller group stuff like Salvage II now, and I enjoy that.
I know a lot of people are annoyed that the adjustment gives no extra boons for higher defense but rather penalizes lower defense, but either way I like that combat makes me think more than just "monster pdif capped anyway, zerk all day e'rytime".

The question from saevel is justified, because even in Legion and other hard stuff, mobs dont produce those numbers ecxept on mages or if the gallu mightystriking after the update. So you were either: not useing a proper defensiv build when you had counterstand/berserk on. Or not proper buffs. Or you used counterstance and berserk at the same time. Pro-tip if you want to use counterstance, use def food to encounter its defense down and Pro V. Another pro-tip dont use zerk and CS at same time if you dont have a deathwish.

I would just never ever use CS for now. It's broke in that its practically begging for you to be one shoted by the NM. And unless they changed something no amount of food / protect will make any difference on CS's defense. It'll be something stupidly low.

Which is exactly what I said, in less unnecessary words. And why mentioning gear sets food and protect, was dumb.
On another note did Bhaf v2.0 countertanked cerb like a bawse. No harder, actually easier after the update.
Khim and hydra on the other hand @_@;; no clue about the Dvrgr, cause no reason to do it.

Now your just trying to pick a fight. Also it seems Protect does effect CS, CS now applies a -50% def penalty when active.
Ultimately you took those damage because you were careless and had zerk + CS up for -75% defense, which after the update is a really stupid thing to do.
