Hello Everyone! At the suggestion of Luvbunny, I Decided to try and make a general PSA About the intrcasies of Reives. Now pretty much everything about Reives is spelled out by the NPCs, but i know learning is hard and its easier to just mash enter for you Bayid than to figure out what "Coalition Flag" means and why it SUCKS for Peacekeepers guild, So This guide is here to help you learn a few basics, get your Key items, and really help you get a lot of Bayid, it a short time, and avoid the rather ludicrous amount of people camping Roots in Ceizac like they drop Kraken Clubs.

Off to the Start.

Getting Started: A (Kinda) Complete list of important Quests you need.

Reives, Coalitions, and Why your vote counts!

BUT WHAT DO I DO WITH ALL THIS BAYID KARB?!

Battle Strategies, or, How to Maximize your Bayid and Colonization!

Is My Job good for Reives?

Your Reive Hunting Grounds! (DAT MEANS MAPS)

Unfortunately I know little of Ceizac as its a cesspool on Asura atm, so i avoid it. Please let me know positions of Ceizac or Yahse if i don't have them up here, and i will update them ASAP. Thanks!

Closing:
Thats all for now, I'll add more shortly, but in the end... READ, and know your votes count. - If you have anything you want added, let me know, and I'll put it in. For a list of useful quests, visit here:

Probably suggests the basic set up and what jobs should do. In case people just zerg the root instead of farming the bayld. Also the Reive Unity will restore your 1 hour ability. As beast you can charm nearby T mob, familiar. And do it again as soon as the reive is over, assuming you get the restore ability bonus. A Rdm/Bst can also have your fun with charisma gears and chatoyant staff. Charm and have fun exploring, your pet should not have any trouble holding hate unlike jug pets.

Aye, Was actually making some Maps and adding that in a new section very shortly. I just uh... Really had to afk a second :P

In case you wonder, as Rdm/Bst your mob should last a good while, at least one battle duration, just use leave and recharm. Take care of links and use tame if things get dire. Between your mini wide scan and your self buffs, and gain chr, you should be able to have fun exploring - you do need your beast to be 99 however. Also abyssea graduate with low skills, don't take SoA lightly, you will get mow down and killed rather fast. Get your skills at max or close to it. Most mob will resist - this goes for fresh ninja and Rdm out there.

Here is a question that I am still not quite clear. Do you get more xp/bayld the longer you hold out from destroying the roots and keep killing the little adds? There should be a reason why there are 4-6 roots per site compared to one wasp nest, and how it takes a lot of whacking to kill these roots. As well as they have one hour respawn. Because if you do get more xp/bayld the more you kill normal reive mobs that also spawn rather fast (for a reason) - while still whacking the root for 4-10 damage. Roots location also rather large and has two sides compared to the nest location. Then this could be our replacement for abysea party, we farm xp/bayld and no need to worry about lights and opening chest. No more drama over afk and leechers. And actually do give you a good skill ups rate. Anyone can confirm this? Also as mages, do we get more points spamming enhancing magic? Since this is somewhat similar to campaign, I wonder if this also apply.

They avoided a campaign situation and enhancing magic is pretty.. bad... Still use it, bUt you'll get more exp out of melee+Cures.

As far as Exp/Bayid goes, You get Evaluated every minute or so, So the longer the fight, the more evaluations, the more exp/bayid. There is nothing Bayid/Exp wise that you get from killing it as quickly as possible, all that does it help some unknown amount in Colonization, which again, is pointless without Courier Coalition assignments and Biovaucs.

Saddly, I while Roots could prove a decent exp location, It'd suck for Mages, and beyond all else someones going to come and kill the roots.

Also, nests seem to have significantly lower Exp/Bayid caps than Roots. Lair Reives give less Exp/bayid on average, Even if you're team is killing all the enemies over and over, less exp/bayid all around. Colonization are definitely the better for it.

Added the updated map too, Thank you!

I've seen you post the word "Bayid" several times, but it's actually spelled Bayld.

as in, BayLd? Cause if so, You can blame the resolution on this tiny ass monitor im forced to use for now :D.

seems rather inconsequential though, not going to go back and edit all the words >_>

I just want to re-post this without a spoiler tag in front of it, and with brain-splitting bold and rainbow text, because I feel it's the most vital part of the whole guide:

Your Votes, this is probably the single biggest thing people DO NOT realize they are throwing away when they do Coalition Assignments and spam enter for their Bayid and exp. Votes are the single most important thing you get from Coalition assignments. Let me give you an example... The Peacekeepers Coalition has 3 Options. Flag, Signboard, Emblem. (All Coalitions have these options). Now,

The Flag unlocks Weapons

The Signboard Unlocks, Body and Head Armor

The Emblem Unlocks, Potions/Ethers are outposts (This is my guess, Coalition Potions/Ethers are int he game, and this expands Frontline Provisions)

THF: Decent DD, Solid EVA Tank, kinda squishy. In a PLD Tank situation, You're going to be a DD on the roots or helping kill enemies. You'll do a good job, but you can die really quick if you're not careful. a Hybrid EVA/DD set is needed, as they are fairly accurate and will hit you for 180~300+ DMG, more on crits. as THF/DNC i could solo 1-2 mobs with little problems (FINAL STING FK YOU), But you want to be prepared, having a healer or Duo buddy, namely another DNC or /DNC, really helps.

I probably have more gear sets than the "basic" THF...but on THF, I have been performing the function of "PLD Supertank" in a lot of strategies I've seen.

I would imagine hat almost any DD + WHM could pull this off, given they have access to -PDT sets, but I think THF might have an advantage here because it can cap PDT, generate reasonable defense with just Pro V and food, while maintaining an exceptional evade rate.

Fantastic write-up Karb!

Since you mentioned the quest Western Waypoints, Ho! (http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Western_Waypoints,_Ho!), I'd like to add that there is a second, identical quest that covers Eastern Adoulin (http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Wes...Eastern_Waypoints,_Ho!) as well.

Between the two, you unlock every Waypoint in the city.

Aye, This was more for the basic man, But I'm pretty sure you're right when it comes to that, pretty much any DD + WHM could supertank them with the proper PDT Sets, and Defensive measures (proV, Rabbit Pie or some other Defense food).

Also Special thanks to you Spank, Should probably add subtext to that myself telling them to vote for signboard or die. :3

And last but not least, I'll get to editing that map for that Lair soon :)

After a few days of this, I've switched out my DB WHM for SCH/RDM. Pro V + Food + PDT + phalynx + Regen V = You can't hurt me. Can also do more fun things like give ice spikes to para all of the mobs, en spells for added damage. I'm liking SCH more and more over WHM.

Too bad the SCH will get nothing for it....

and that be the biggest problem :| Mages jobs are super bones unless they're meleeing as well... Otherwise they just get nothing, even if they do melee, they get a laughable % that any respectable half-DD would get...

Really hope they reevaluate it. Sad part is if they make enhancing too good, You could just sit there and spam it til you're blue in the fact because monsters wont attack unless you attack first... But if they make it too bad, It turns into, well, Campaign, and no one wants to even bother coming as support/healing jobs cause you don't get sh*t for exp.

They need to just throw balance to the wind and make Buff/healing jobs actually worth playing to these things, even if it means making enhancing magic broken... just make enemies aggro to magic :) (so you buff outside then enter, But if you're planning to abuse buffing as an exp/bayid storm, you'll get aggroed/raped)

I wonder if they could give a high value for the initial cast of something like Pro V, which should mitigate a significant amount of cures worth of damage, but then lessen each respective cast within a certain time period.

In this way, spells that are truly valuable and vital for survival in battle would be worth casting on players, but could not be spammed and abused.

The same could be done for things like Dia, haste etc that provide significant melee damage increases.

Karbuncle
04-04-2013, 02:13 PM
So what you're saying is something like...

Protect/ra V gives 50 Bayid on first cast, But each cast after the first for about 1minute will only give ~5 Bayid.
Haste Give ~30 For first cast, but ~3 for each after within 1 minute?

Or something along those lines. I mean, That would make sense but it would also really make hasting/etc more than 1 person every minute or so... Which would just lead to Support people maximizing their Points by hasting/protecting either their main (Cause half will likely be dualboxed people) or simply lead to people in groups only buffing themselves since each subsequent buff would give miniscule amounts of points compared to just flat meleeing.

no... I don't think that solution would work well... Buffinf/Support needs to be buffed across the board to make it even worth coming as those jobs, not buffnerfed. I mean, You could make it to where applying the spell to someone who does not have hit gives more points, but then you could just cast on yourself and wear off the buff.. Plus how could SE Determine all this and it seems like alot of programming for a problem much more easily solved.

It really seems to me SE is trying to avoid another campaign situation, were people would rather sit on /BRD and sing to themselves than to actually fight... and I completely agree its necessary to avoid this... As of now though, Reives are far more dangerous due to the small battlefield, and i know if i saw someone sitting in a corner leeching Bayid while singing to himself i'd laugh as he died... and theres are countless more like me in that regard.

So, long story short, I think flat out enhancing the bayid earned from curing/buffs will be the best route to go with this. I'd say Double/triple maybe even quadruple the bayid/exp received for enhancing magic... Give mages a reason to buff and they will, a reason to cure and they will... But a great melee is still going to get more on melee, and you wont be able to just hide like in Campaign cause there is no safe hiding spot, and even if you were say RDM/BLM, sleeping them and buffing yourself.. theres always the risk of a resist, or a TP move... It will be far riskier.

I think the smaller arena and aggressive mobs will prevent a campaign scenario. Flat buffing Enhancing/Curing seems like the simplest and easiest solution... otherwise this event is dead to buffers... which is going to pose big problems.

Try playing as Blu/Rdm, sleep all the adds if it comes to you. You should rack up tons of bayld. Between cocoon + phalanx, defense food and -PDT gears, you will be fine tanking as blue, can handle 4-5 mobs easy sleeping them. It's the lag that is a huge problem. You can also come as Rdm/Blue as well, same strategy. With cocoon + phalanx + boost vitality and fast cast gears for stoneskin + aquaveil + blink, the mob barely hurt me, I use tacos. I am getting hit around 50-70 normal, and can crit to 120-150s. Sleep 2 landed and enfeeble last quite awhile. I have to say bayld wise, I get decent amount, not great not crap. I will try testing as blue/rdm next time. It's all about head on tanking in SoA and boost defense to the max lol.

I have to say after playing the expansion and doing reive for a week, there are so many dumb ignorant melee players running around like idiots who are in dire need of smacking the roots and have absolutely no clue on how to pull, sleep add, or hold a group of mobs.... They all went straight to the roots.

Thanks for this awesome post Karby.

Do SMN blood pacts work like in Campaign? I.e. they affect everybody close even if they're not in your party?

Luvbunny
04-04-2013, 08:19 PM
Yes they affect everyone in the area. Very helpful with Leviathan to remove those nasty status ailments. But all you see is Smns melee with Garuda. Carby works as well for status ailments but it won't cure you - while Leviathan will heal your hp and get rid of those status ailments.

Didn't the same work with SCH as well in Campaign or am I dreaming things? Accession Cures/Protect/etc working on everybody nearby despite the party they were in?
Doesn't work for songs on BRD, but I think the same applied in Campaign.

I have not done one as SCH. But yeah in campaign you can Ascencion + Cure 4 all the NPCs and get yourself killed very fast lol. Btw they just made adjustment. Now you are getting less XP and Bayld as melee DD - LMAO!!! So gear up your RDM gears, SCH, WHM DD, and Blue Mage. You are getting a ton more by curing, buffing, nuking and attacking!! Get ready to actually see tons of RDMs running around and hopefully sleeping adds now. Well I am sure Blms can come and play too now :)

Let's hope people are smart enough now not to destroy the root too fast but FOCUS on killing the normal reive mobs while still applying damage to the roots. Chain those bayld !! Do it now or future adjustment will reduce your bayld.

Wow that went downhill rather fast, within a week Reive is now somewhat abandoned by a lot of people. The new adjustments actually made it worse overall, melee or mages lol. Not sure what they were smoking over there, I am not getting much of anything as RDM - nuking, buffing, enfeebling, curing, sleeping, etc, if anything it is gotten worse than before now overall. Well safe to say, take a few months off from the game, save more than a few dollars and check back in 6 months to a year when proper adjustments is being made. Hope you still updating the guide :)

All I see now is a BST, put pet on root and keep reapplying jig.

It's infuriating. When mages, melees are dying left and right trying to kill adds to get to the root and the bsts are there with their pets plugging away at the roots and not really helping anyone except themselves for mucho rewards.

Event is broken =/

They need to take out the respawning mobs so people can you know, actually kill the adds and make way to the root.

Greetings everyone!

I hope you're all looking forward to the weekend, and perhaps even taking part in the double EXP campaign to catch whatever job or merits up to where you want them to be! :)

As there have been quite a few posts about the changes that were made to Reive evaluations yesterday, I wanted to follow-up and give an explanation about the system and the development team's thoughts.

Balance of the amount of bayld obtained between content

Broken down content-wise, the below is the order of how much bayld we imagined players receiving listed from highest to lowest:
Coalition Assignments > Colonization Reives > Lair Reives

The reasons for establishing it in this way are due to the following:

Coalition assignments consume tickets.
If the order of Reives and Coalition Assignments were reversed, the necessity to do Coalition Assignments would decrease.
If Coalition Assignments are not completed, the Coalitions' ranks will not increase, which means that no one would be able to receive Coalition support perks.
If no one is receiving Coalition support perks it would become difficult to colonize.

Envisioned amount of Bayld obtainment
Coalition Assignments: 4000 Bayld/day
Colonization Reives: max of 1000-1500 each time
Lair Reives: max of 700-800 each time

The cost of items that can be purchased with Bayld have been established based on these envisioned numbers.
*These numbers are what were envisioned for a single Reive, and not the amount to be received at each evaluation.

Why the evaluation value and the threshold were high for enhancing magic, elemental magic, enfeebling magic, and healing magic

Enhancing magic: We wanted to protect against situations where you could earn a lot of Bayld by only casting enhancing magic.

Elemental magic/enfeebling magic: We were considering cases where AoE magic would be cast.

Healing magic: We wanted to protect against situations where players could gain Bayld by swapping HP boosting equipment in and out to heal themselves.

Based on the aforementioned reasons we have implemented the adjustments up until now.

In other words…

The amount of Bayld that was being obtained via melee attacks was lowered because it was much higher than what we had first envisioned.
The increase in the evaluation values for healing magic, enfeebling magic, and elemental magic were performed because it was much stricter than initially envisioned.
The reason changes were made so that a message does not appear when the threshold is not met at the time of evaluation was because it would cause people to incorrectly think that not meeting the threshold means that the evaluation value was reset.

Also, we are closely watching how everyone is actually playing as well as the information exchanged on the forums, Twitter, and fan sites, and there is an impression that the difference in Bayld is connected to the destruction of obstructions/lairs.

In the event that the obstruction or lair is not damaged, you will not be able to receive experience points or Bayld, but even if you go all out and destroy it right away you will not receive the maximum amount.

Please try and divvy up the responsibilities so you are damaging the obstruction/lair, defeating monsters, and then supporting other players doing these things.

Additionally, obtaining the "Reive Unity" key item and receiving effects from Ionis will go a long way in helping you out.

In regards to plans moving forward, we are exploring adjustments like the below:

Adjustments to the increase rate of the Colonization Rate
Reducing the penalty time for leaving a Reive (10 minutes > 5 minutes)
Adjustments to each of the threshold values

We're also looking into a variety of other things and once they have been confirmed I will be sure to share them with you all.

In the meantime, happy pioneering and get those Coalition ranks up!

In case you all miss it.
