being AF gear.... I am just looking for gear for my THF, DNC, and SAM that will ensure my characters don't die (one on one).... The only way I have seen has been from AH or crafting, right now I only have about 10k gil so I;d rather the gear be from quests or cost conquest points... I am not looking for the best gear, just beginner gear enough to take on the new expansion until I start on the AF quests, NM's, coffers, and dungeons...

Good Luck with that. Find some like minded people and start getting Abyssea gear to +2. The game has evolved from Level Progression game, to a gear progression game. It's the only way to make your character powerful enough to survive Adoulin fights solo. Gear progression sort of goes : Abyssea-----> Voidwatch -----> Neo Nyzul Isle / Legion ----> Adoulin? In other words, join a like minded linkshell or a group of friends and get started on it. Complement those sets with AH gear to fill in gaps depending on what you need (DD set, Defense set, Magic Defense set, Evasion set etc.)
*just a note Meeble Burrows goes in that list somewhere but can't really place it because I haven't done it yet.*
*If you're talking about the lvl 60 AF gear?, Don't worry about Adoulin yet, It's designed for max level jobs. You can get the new jobs unlocked at lvl 30 if you're interested in them, then come back when you have jobs, subjobs and equipment ready.*
By "AF" do you literally mean the lv50-60 gear you have to quest for? If so, don't worry about those, most pieces are pretty useless. The main point to doing those quests nowadays is for the storyline. A few jobs have some pretty cool stories in their quests.
What's your highest level job? 59 WAR? Getting AF on your own right now would be tough. Have you tried doing Campaign? There's some decent gear sets you can buy with Allied Notes that can hold you over for a while as you level solo (I assume that's what you meant by "don't die (one-on-one)."
Like this for WAR and SAM: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Brunne_Set
Or this for DNC and THF: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Cobra_Harness_Set
At least until you can afford some decent 75+ gear off the AH. It would take a long time to earn Allied Notes (though, a couple years ago they boosted the Exp/AN note cap in Campaign by a LOT). But, you'd also be gaining Exp in the process. Sub DNC and fight stuff the NPCs are fighting, and avoid the NMs. Oh, and make sure to have Reraise on plus bring Instant Reraise. Or sub WHM for Reraise. You should level WHM to at least 25 anyway, Sneak & Invisible are more reliable than Spectral Jig, plus you'd have Reraise, so it'd be easier for you to solo quests that just involve sneaking around and not fighting anything.
Come ~90, there's no shame in setting yourself up with some cheap Perle or Aurore gear. You can buy it off the AH for less than 10K a piece, and most of it's a lot better than gear from the days of 75 cap. It's normally free, but I assume you haven't been playing enough recently to have earned the cruor to buy it.
Slap some Perle on, level up your weapons for red procs (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Weakness_Targeting#Red_Weakness), and you'll be ready to do some pick-up Abyssea farming for your Empyrean armor. Get your +1 Empy armor, at the very least, before worrying about Adoulin (though there's a lot of in-town Adoulin quests you can do now without having to fight anything).

I have several Relic/empy weapons.. dont' worry about it.. just find a PLD who has an Ochain, a whm, and a bard because you're gonna need 6 ppl to live through any of this stuff...
Have fun..

Where does crafting fit into that?

What Puck said! Very good advice.
I will add this about the Perle/Teal/Aurore sets, too. Once you hit lvl 75, you can reasonably expect to get into an Abyssea XP alliance. After a few levels earned in Abyssea, you'll be have enough Cruor to outright purchase these sets from the vendors right inside the entrances to Abyssea - La Theine/Konschtat/Tahrongi. As in, 0 gill cost. And they really are decent sets until you can start getting into your Empyrean +1/2.
During this time, you can also look into doing some of the quests around Adoulin. Most of them award at least a few Bayld. Coalition missions for the Couriers and Scouts don't seem to actually require any fighting, either. A little Sneak/Invis will get you earning Bayld that you can use to buy some rather snazzy stuff from the Peacekeepers Coalition.

Don't forget about elemental weapon trial from the moogle. A few of those are still good and great to have if you are not going to make empy weapon. Trials are a bit boring but it is entirely doable in a few days solo, or even faster if you shout and grab others who may also need it, trust me you are not alone on doing them.

My bad you are correct, you can complement the sets with crafting if you craft it yourself, or buy it off the AH.
