Weapon magian trials not working properly in Dynamis Tavnazia.

This may also generalize to the other Dynamis areas too, I'm not sure.

So I have 6 magian trials active for my Samurai. 5 of them are the "get 20,000 XP in Dynamis trials" for upgrading the +2 armor pieces, trials 5009 - 5013. The 6th is Great Katana trial 656: "kill 600 aquans".

Trials 5009 and 5010 let you get XP in Dynamis Tavnazia. I decided "I have Dynamis Tavnazia access. I'll kill two birds with one stone." Then I saw that there were pugils in Tavnazia, so I said "Hey, those are aquans. I'll equip my trial great katana and kill THREE birds with one stone."

So I found my way to the pugils and killed one. I got credit for trials 5009 and 5010, but nothing for trial 656. I don't know if this was intentional or if it was a glitch, but I wanted to report it.

Unrelated, but I ended up fighting taurs instead of pugils. When I was almost out of time in Dynamis, I got hit with Mortal Ray. I decided not to cure it since I only had like 20 seconds left in Dynamis. So I was greatly amused when both my Doom countdown and my Dynamis timer hit zero at the exact same time and I collapsed dead on the floor of Tavnazian Safehold.

Now that I think about it, maybe there's just a restriction that you can't get credit toward more than 2 trials at once. I have a trial that calls for XP in Buburimu too. I could hop over there instead of Qufim and see if any of the aquans there give me credit. Has anyone ever gotten credit for more than 2 trials at once?

"Nightmare" monsters do not generally have a monster family, so you can't get credit for Aquans, Beasts, etc. trials on them. You also can't intimidate them and won't get circle bonuses against them. Whether or not this was oversight is up to SE, but given that they totally re-worked the zones and left the monsters as they were, I'm betting it is intentional.

Yeah, that's why I said "generally." Bees in Tav at least used to work (they also used to give crystals). Slimes in Jeuno aren't nightmare monsters.

Only some mobs are like that then, because I know BSTs who have done the bee trial for Axes inside of Dynamis Tav, and I know BLMs who have done the Slimes in Dynamis Jeuno. I am not saying your wrong, but if you are right there has to be exceptions to what you are saying.

It could be that nightmare mobs don't count as being a member of a "family". I did the trials you mentioned, bees in, I think, darkness alighned weather, and slimes in darkness aligned weather. But those both referred to one specific mob type, not a whole family. So you and Byrth could both be correct here.
