Supposedly it's finally out today but I cannot find any information on where it's at. Any help would be appreciated.

I did a search on my iphone app store for "square enix software token" and it came up. I just don't know if I can use it instead of my actual token or not though. Some info on that would be helpful.

Please note that the app can be downloaded after midnight on March 28, 2013 (GMT) for both iOS and Android versions, but will become usable after 19:00 (GMT) on the same day.

I'd rather stick to the real key. The phones can get lost or stolen by accident. The same can happen to the dongle but it's less likely if you keep it in a safe location. You'll carry that smartphone with you everywhere. If you something bad happens while using a phone key you'll be out of luck playing FFXI until you get that key removed. Right now also isn't the best time to be dealing with that because the new expansion.

For the record I wouldn't risk it. A Key only cost $10 and can be locked up beside your machine anyway. This is just my personal opinion but please, think hard before you go this direction.

I was only go to use the smart phone app if I could use it with the token I already have, but since that's not possible, not going to bother.

It's useful to have available. This way if your security token dies or is lost or broken you can replace it with the software token instead of buying another one, or you can save money and just get the app if you haven't bought a token - though the app does not get you extra inventory space, it does give you the extra security.
