My POL today, not sure if the version update brought POL down but I have an internet connection and yet POL wont let me Log In. I'm frustrated and cant figure out why that is happening, someone please help.

I even did a full uninstall/reinstall, reset my internet connection many times, restarted my computer. UGH IDK whatelse to do.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

1160 indicates that the servers are too busy, and can't handle all requests. but the msg should also tell you taht you should try later again. so uninstalling/reinstalling is useless

Ah, well guess I will wait til later on today or possibly tomorrow.

It's so absurd that we should be putting up with this issue after all these years. Why SE can't temporarily dedicate more server load to the updates during times -known- to be heavily congested (such as right after a big update or expansion release) is beyond me. They either need to fire their server admin or start listening to them. It's hard to tell from our side which is the problem.

At the very least, I wish they'd make sure that once you did get in, you stayed in. After the "checking files" part of the update, I got another "...busy..." error. I haven't gotten beyond that yet, but if it restarts the "checking files" when I finally do, instead of continuing with the update, my health insurance company will probably be suing SE for causing my stroke.

Yeah I had the same thing. Registered my adoulin code after having been logged in on POL. Then when I went to start, all these errors came up. I thought it had something to do with the steam client breaking after I entered the codes. Was scared lol

I dont have FFXI Through Steam, I have one of the original copies from CD/DVD install, Seeker's of Audolin, I got from Amazon.com and I registered and installed it yesterday. I just want to get on update so I get my Warrior out of Abyssea Altepa where I left her last night during a Fell Cleave Party.

I gave up, all this extremely primitive update system does is cause it's paying customers unnecessary stress. Over 2 hours and neither one of my 2 pcs nor my 360 will update. I'm clicking retry on all 3 at the same time and the most i would get is once every 200 tries it will check the files and then ERROR after it's done, so instead of remembering that it already checked the damn files, nope the geniuses that programmed this have it check again everytime, making sure you never get to the point where it starts downloading. After 10 years of this bs updating system, I give up.

I love the way it teases you and shows the download screen then goes back to the error after 10 seconds. -_-

Well, I finally got past the "busy" error and it is checking the files again. Doesn't seem like I'm actually having stroke though. Actually, hmm... I think something might be happe erhahd lelagyskl adj eickfhw eydlghc lryuwer

10 years this game has been out you would think they would have a better update system.
POL always screws up my ip address too. Had to reset my router.

I think a good portion of us are getting that error code. I know I am still and am tempted to just try and log in late tonight or early tomorrow and hope I can update.

You're not the only one that is getting this error.

You have to wonder how many players are trying to download the update at the same time.

After pinging the server IP 202.67.62.102 I can say there's nothing wrong with my connection.
Updates that are available on this order i believe so,
1.Japan
2.US
3.EU

and even if you get in the slots you will get kicked out lol

what the heck...

I didn't purchase SoA. So why the updates not working and keeps giving me POL-1160?
And why I have to deal with relentless "Checking Repair Files" every 20 mins to have another POL-1160?

Mind that I came fresh brand new and never ever tried XI before, not till some fellows in XIV says how wonderful XI was. So why I have to deal with double check repair files everytime I ran POL? :(

Actually I hit retry over 100 times, went thru the files scan about 20 times...and never got even 1 file downloaded! 6hrs later I'm just stressed in few hours I'll have the stroke...wonder how I'll look tomorrow morning!

Details:
Ever since I experienced a dowload crash on Feb. 5th, 2011 at around 20:30 ESTMAr 27th 2013, I am unable to log in to FINAL FANTASY XI. Every time I try to log in, I receive a “FFXI-3001 No response from server.Error POL-1160” about 3 minutes after I make an attempt. I have tried resetting my cable modem and router but that didn’t help. I have even tried reinstalling the driver for the NIC but that didn’t help either. I have tried to contact any SE person who caused this to yell they should know this was going to happen!

Steps:

Experienced unhability FINAL FANTASY XI's team.
Attempted to restard dowload immediately after the dowload crash by restarting the game.
Received the error every time I retry (about once each 30-50 seconds upon crashing).


Gave hundreds tries but the result was the same.
After restarting both cable modem and router, made another attempt to log back in to the game but the result was the same.
I won't even try this step because is your fault: Reinstalled the driver of the NIC on my PC but still, the result was the same. (yes is the same for a million players...epic fail)

I don't mean to QQ or anything, but what is the point of buying a presale if I can't even log in?
10 hours and counting.
Oh and the whole checking files just to dump me after checking them, yeah that is stupid.
Why don't you check them after the download?

I was online (on game) 2h ago, now I'm getting this and can't log in at all. I changed my IP serevals times, reset all, and I'm still getting this. In other words, I'm fully updated, but now I can't login (after connection lost right after system message saying everything was "fixed").
