Hi guys

I just tried to install Seeker's of Adoulin and I get "FINAL FANTASY XI is not installed". Now, I think the problem here is is that it's installed to my Steam Directory, so any ideas on how I can get around this?

Thanks

guessing you got the non-steam version (may not be available until after it launches)? Not sure if that will work without being able to designate the installation path (ie: with a custom install option).

Double check the installation requirements for the version you purchased...it should say that it requires the steam client for installation:

Im EU so I purchased through http://uk.gamesplanet.com/buy-download-pc-games/Final-Fantasy-XI---Seekers-of-Adoulin-3778-37.html when it was announced.

There's no mention of steam and when I go to install using the installer it states that FFXI is not installed (no option to search for it) and the installer closes.

Greetings!

We have actually have a article about this in our Support Center (http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?kid=66730&id=20&la=1&ret=faq&pv=10&page=0&c=0&sc=0&so=4&q=seekers)! Please try these following steps:

To install the Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack for the Steam version of FINAL FANTASY XI, please follow the instructions below.

Launch the PlayOnline Viewer
Exit the PlayOnline Viewer by clicking on the 'Exit Viewer' button located in the menu selection
Install the Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack

Failure to launch and exit the PlayOnline Viewer before installing the Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack will result in the error message stating you first need to install the PlayOnline Viewer.

I get this message:
Expansion data has not been installed. You cannot enter areas that require expansion pack data.

I get this message:
Expansion data has not been installed. You cannot enter areas that require expansion pack data.

Because it hasn't gone live yet. Camate posted in another thread about it:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/31348-Expansion-Pack-Data-Has-Not-Been-Installed?p=410990&viewfull=1#post410990

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to confirm that the message you are seeing pop up is normal because the expansion is not yet live. No need to worry :)

I'm still getting this error. I'm not using steam (I don't think!?) It uses it's own downloader to install the program. I get the same message "unable to install because FINAL FANTASY XI has not been installed". Is it because I originally bought the NA version and I downloaded the EU version of SoA? If so, is there a way around this? (I seem to remember being able to change a .dat file somewhere for a previous installation).

I have the same issue Babes, it's a pity.I don't have the energy to find a free EU ffxi for re-install and then up to 15 hrs update not including new content. It's another fine mess that I'm too old for.

They will need a patch for POL or we are going to be forced to find an EU ver.

I think I will just download Res evil 6, it looks good.

Yes an US client cannot have EU expansion installed on it, and versa like other JP/EU client.. Only way to get around it is if you change your client manually in the computers register to the EU version, but yeah even tho the clients are identical, the register is what tells the game which language should be used, the installed game on your PC contains the JP/EU/NA versions regardless where you bought it.

I cant install the game either :S i got the only version available at the eu store. At the NA store the only available expansion said that it was compatible with any version of valve steam platform.

I am in a similar situation to Babes on this one. I originally lived in the US and it was then that i bought the US version of FFXI. I moved to the UK but still kept my US client on my pc but obviously when the whole pol merge with square account happened i was switched to EU.

I just purchased my SoA expansion from Gameplanet and got the same error "FFXi is not installed" i suspected at that point it could not find PoL, so I did a second check and tried to reg the reg code you get with your purchase on Gameplanet on the Square account site. That gave me the error:-

"You cannot add expanded services because either the maximum number of service accounts have been added/registered or there are no service accounts to which the expanded services can be added/registered."

Now i am stuck thinking SE has still got my account registered as a US account (Due to my PoL ID) and thus even if you do manage to get the expansion to install (can probably do so by installing the associated pol client and reg hacking it) if your pol ID is recognized by SE to be a particular region; in my case US, you HAVE to buy the US version to get its reg code to reg on the square website (this will also make it easier to install the expansion with a US pol client).

In short:-

1) Check which client you have installed
2) Check on the SE website what region your POL ID is locked to
3) Yep you guessed it purchase another copy of SoA for your region (lol if you can since purchases are region locked too)
4) Attempt to register the code on the website (if it works then proceed to step 5 if not go back to 1)
5) Attempt to install SoA expansion you have downloaded (if it works go to 6 if not well.... hope tech support can help)
6) All should be fine run the game wait for servers to go live after you update.

Unless Tech support knows of some other issue that's causing this and some other solution thats pretty much the best i can tell so far. I am in the process of trying to fix it myself so will let you know if anything happens.

I am having the same issue, playing through Steam and the setup claims I do not have FFXI installed. I have tried the 'fix' mentioned by the rep but it has not worked. I downloaded the EU version, is there any way to check which version I downloaded through Steam? (I should HOPE that's EU as I live in England).

well Best Buy provided a EU client to my friend in the US, while the account would still be NA, therefor he needed a EU client which i sent him, that is the only other option either register change your client to a different region to install the expansion, or have someone send you the EU or NA expansion. as for the reg code well that cannot be fixed that is region locked.

Just a little update, i did manage to get it to install but it took some fiddling around and i would not suggest anyone else doing this at the risk of damaging your registry.

*** Do this at your own risk its still a work in progress and the SE techs may have a better solution ****
*** Remember i have a US Pol ID and US Client installed & am attempting to install the EU SoA expansion ****
*** Also i am on a Windows 7 x64 system *****

So i got it to install by doing this:-

1) Download > Install > Update the PoL Viewer EU Client from playonline EU
2) Go to your registry > got to (for x64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PlayOnlineUS
3) Right click it and select Export
4) this will export the registry for playonlineUS and save it to your desktop as a .reg file
5) rename the file ffxiEU > open it in notepad > change every instance of PlayonlineUS to PlayonlineEU
i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PlayOnlineUS >>>>> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PlayOnlineEU
6) Your polEU client should now be able to point to your US ffxi install
7) Now run your EU SoA installer
8) The installer now should find your FFXI install (regardless of it being an NA install)
9) Once SoA has installed you should be set, now the only problem is getting the reg code to work.

I have gotten to this point but took the extra step of then uninstalling the polEU client so that my polNA client would be back to default, but to no avail, so i am Re-installing the polNA client currrently but its having issues checking for updates, guessing the SE servers are getting hit hard by the update maybe, keep getting pol-1160 error.

I have found a work around for those that are finding themselves in a similar situation as the posters in this thread. As many have posted the reg codes are region locked, so using the solution in my previous post will not really serve any purpose once the expansion goes lives as you need to have it registered as well as installed to actually access the content. That being said i made a post in another thread related to this issue.

*** Moderators might want to make sure i am not breaking any rules by posting this solution ***

go to: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/31194-SoA-for-EU-players-with-US-accounts?p=411353&viewfull=1#post411353

that should help you get things working or as others have said get a friend in the US to buy it for you and give you the reg code then find a dump of the installer online somewhere and install and reg will be covered.

I've given up on attempting to install SoA for now, but now cannot log in to PlayOnline viewer. Upon entering password it hangs on the 'checking version' screen then brings up POL-1160 error message repeatedly. Is this just because servers are too busy or have we got ANOTHER problem to deal with?

Hiya Red , yes the servers are packed right now and thus even PoL Viewer is having issues connecting. You can still go and try follow what i posted in that link and get your correct version of the game if needed. So dont give up, get the right reg code reg it on the website and have a the installer on stand by for later today when the servers free up more.

Thanks :) I'm really nervous about trying things like you outlined in your solution, though may well try it if I we don't find anything else out soon.

My PoL account is EU but still not sure if the version I downloaded through steam is (I originally played via EU disc back in the day, the d/loaded the Abyssea complete collection version from Steam).

I guess I can try upgrade my basic Seekers download to the full EU FFXI ver.

I have old Discs up to WoTG.I should be good to go for re-install with that right? Abyssea and add-ons did not require game download correct?

I was like a child at xmas, excited about new area ;) It been years since we had a new town! We will get there.

Hopefully they can create a basic .exe to fix our issue.

yeah it seems a lot of people are finding themselves in a similar situation. Like i said my solution is only a suggestion it is by no means the end all be all to resolving it. How ever if you feel nervous about giving it a shot and if it is not the right solution for you then i would suggest waiting for SE to release a direct download link either via POL Viewer or one of the companion websites in the future.

They should be able to fix the issue, especially for those who actually have the right SoA version for their client. As to installing from your WoTG disc set it should be fine just make sure you have the right regional version of SoA if you want to get things working.

Of course there is no article on the EU support site because, you know, who cares about EU users, how many of them could there be? 10? 15? Lol at them.
Inorite?

F**k SquareEnix Europe, srsly, can a company get lower than this on a single market?

Nothing against you Bayohne, you have nothing to do about this and you can't do anything either aside from reporting our complaints to the upper floors, but still I had to rage for a second.

It's the same in PlayStation home right? The three regions are basically separate companies. When I complained about something in PS Home once I got a good answer from a Mod.They sorta said that in EU there are so many individual countries all with their own laws it's hard to get stuff done.

With all the european international laws going on for stuff like these and seeing how other companies manage to succeed no problem in handling all the european differences I'm leaning to think that's just a silly excuse, sorry.

I'm having trouble with this too. I installed the Ultimate Abyssea Complete via Steam (which I assume is EU, as I'm in the UK) and downloaded an EU version of SoA direct from SE. When I run the setup it says the game isn't installed. I moved the setup files in to the same folder Steam has installed the game (on a secondary HDD) and the same message comes up.
Hoping someone comes up with an easy fix for this as I'm really not clued up enough to start changing registry data! :(

Worked for me thanks ;) You can always rely on a WAR!
If I ever see you at a SE event, I owe ya a pint.

Well I got SoA to install after I followed your instructions.
Then I added the SoA Key to my PoL account.

All should be ok? Just can't log in due to expected server lag.
So hopefully you have saved me a full install and complete FFXI history update ;)
I'll let you know when I'm on a ship to Adoulin!

Hi there Shirkan, glad it helped you out, just be careful in making sure you have the right version of SoA (reg code and installer) for the client you have installed on your machine. This reg trick is only to be used if you just want to install a version of SoA (e.g NA/JP/EU) that your client is not meant to support i.e Eu client > want to install NA/JP SoA. But glad it worked for you mate :) And dont worry about the pint ^^ just happy you can get to access the content finally.

So I need to swap back the regedit to US?

Edit: Yes I had FFXI US full game installed and I just installed EU SoA with your help.

I will be reverting back to full EU install next month anyways, so no long term harm.

Is there any more information on this? I have been waiting to hear back from SE support for days.

Also does anyone have any way of telling which client Steam uses? I read in some other thread that it uses an odd combination of EU/NA o.0

Steam uses EU client by default. I don´t no how to change, but in steamapps/FFXI/FINALFANTASYXI, contains 3 folders: TOOLS, TOOLS EU and TOOLS US. Steam uses de TOOLS EU to config the game.
