Ultimate Collection question

So I just recently started playing again after a 3 year hiatus and everything is very different, obviously. A little research and it seems I need to get Wings of the Goddess for everything.

Steam has the ultimate collection but I have everything up until that expansion already installed so my question is, if I get that do I have to do a fresh install of everything due to the nature of it being a downloaded game? I don't care about paying the $20 for the whole thing but I'd like to just be able to install Wings if possible. Thanks!

First off, wait three more days so that the Ultimate Collection you get will include the upcoming new expansion pack.

With that said, I'll assume two things:

You're playing on PC
The install process for Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition will look like the install process for Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition


If both hold true, then if you buy the Ultimate Collection you will be able to pick and choose which expansion(s) to install from it. You'll still end up downloading a few expansion-exclusive updates when next you log in, but it won't be nearly as bad as a fresh install of everything.

EDIT: I've no experience with the Steam version, so I could be wrong.
